both institutions are members of ciuTi, the international associa-tion of higher educaassocia-tion instituassocia-tions teaching translation and interpret-ing, and the european consortium eMci, which attests their inter-nationally recognised high qual-ity teaching standards. The joint degree builds on the already

exist-ing Ma programmes in interpretexist-ing and offers students a selection of the best elements at both institu-tions. an additional benefit of the joint degree is that students have to spend at least one semester study-ing at the partner institution and gather at least 30 ecTs points. students thus not only come into direct contact with two cultures and languages, but also benefit from a wide selection of translation semi-nars at both universities.

for language b interpreting is practised from and into this language, while for language c interpreting goes only from that language into language a. The numbers attached to c (e.g. c1, c2) indicate different languages, e.g. german, slovene, english or french. Two of the chosen languages must be slovene and german. The third lan-guage can be either english or french. not all lanlan-guages will be on offer every year. lanlan-guage a at the university of ljubljana is always slovene; languages b, c1 and c2 can be english, german or french.

• More than half of the courses in the curriculum (71 ecTs cred-its in graz and 72 ecTs credcred-its in ljubljana) are elective, with com-pulsory elective courses covering 59 ecTs credits in graz and 60 ecTs credits in ljubljana and free elective courses 12 ecTs credits. • students can select from in-terpreting seminars focusing on consecutive, simultaneous and community interpreting, and lation seminars focusing on trans-lation of technical and scientific texts, texts for the arts and social sciences, promotional material, le-gal texts, political texts, or literary texts, or on subtitling, terminology, lexicology, semantics, contrastive lexicology etc.

ENROlMENT pROcEDuRE

The Master’s Programme is open to all students that pass the aptitude test and meet the following formal requirements:

• proof of a completed bachelor’s or degree programme in interlin-guistic Mediation or intercultural communication (in ljubljana or graz);

• proof of a completed bachelor’s or degree programme in any other field and that the candidate satis-fies all the additional requirements specified by the home university (i.e. by the university at which the student registers for the Master's Programme).

ObJEcTIVES, AIMS AND cOMpETENcES

upon completion of the pro-gramme, graduates will be able to supplement their basic linguistic and cultural competences with in-terpreting skills and knowledge in interpreting studies. interpreters will thus be able to prepare written, verbal, or multimedia texts from a written, verbal, or multimedia tem-plate that fulfils the defined goal in the target language (slovene, ger-man and another foreign language) or culture. They will acquire the appropriate techniques to consecu-tively and simultaneously interpret business, technical and political texts. They will be trained to work individually and in teams and to conduct the work according to high deontological standards and in ac-cordance with professional ethics at a local and international level.
