Easter Sunday of the
Resurrection of the Lord
April 4, 2021
JESUS CHRIST
IS RISEN TODAY!
From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear friends,
I think Mother Nature is getting a little ahead of herself.
I look out my window and see green buds on the trees, but the temperature is still in the 40’s! I definitely saw ice on the side-walk this morning and as I write this letter the wind is wicked outside.
But I intend you to read this letter on Easter morning. I hope that Easter morning is a bright (early) spring morning, warm with the hint of more to come.
And the good news this morning is that JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD!
Mother Nature being early with her hints of spring is the ideal metaphor for East-er. Jesus Christ is risen from the dead! And we rejoice and shout “Alleluia, Alleluia!” Alleluia means “Praise God,” in the language that Jesus spoke while he was on earth. “Praise God!”
It has been a rough year, and it is the rare one among us that does not know a per-son who has died from COVID-19 or the family struck with grief. And we’re not done with it yet. There is still the masks and the social distancing and the hand-washing. And the vaccine that we have prayed for. Keep steady with the precautions. But we’ll get through it.
The dead will not be restored to us alive. That’s what I mean when I say that the buds on the trees are green and fat, but spring is not here yet. Jesus was once dead, but now he lives forever. He is the first, he the first-born from the dead. It’s coming.
Jesus has destroyed the power of death by his defeat of death. It’s coming! The de-struction of death awaits the power of the Resurrection to put an end to it forever. But it has begun.
Make no mistake about it. Jesus was dead. The soldier’s spear pierced his heart. But the power of God the Father was in him, and death could not hold him. The ground this morning is brown and lifeless, but it will soon spring green with grass and flowers and leaves on the trees. The buds are fat and green and they are just the beginning.
Hope is the message this Easter morn-ing. It has begun. And hope is irrepressible. Life will return. I don’t know if we should hope that life will return to what it was pre-pandemic, but life will return, with all its beauty and energy and love. Perhaps there will be a ‘new normal.’ I’ll take it. All that we can count on about life is change. But we will make it. There will be new life and ba-bies will be born, and fiancées will wed, and senior citizens will hold hands and tell sto-ries, and we will celebrate. That is what we have missed.
Nature, our Mother, is getting ahead of herself this Easter, because God our Father has given us a powerful sign of hope. Jesus Christ is risen from the dead! And the earth will blossom once more and we can have hope. After all, the buds are fat and green and they will soon blossom with all the col-ors and smells and beauty of spring. Jesus is the first. All those we have lost are waiting to rise at the Savior’s command and hope is alive in our hearts. What could be wrong with this picture? It is a perfect masterpiece - - - in faith - - -in hope- - -in love. Alleluia!
Yours in the love of the Lord,
M

The Church can also be a place to heal. We are called to “be merci-ful like the Father.”
So many are suffering from the effects of abortion. Where can they heal? Where can they feel safe and loved?
The Archdiocese of Newark Re-spect Life Office will be hosting two upcoming Rachel’s Vine-yard retreats to heal the wounds from abortion.
Retreat dates are May 14-16, 2021 (English) and April 23-25, 2021 (Spanish).

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER First Reading: Acts 4:32-35
This passage describes the actions of the first community of Christians. They were of “one heart and one mind.” They had no rich or poor among them, for they shared all necessary items with one another.
Second Reading: 1 John 5:1-6
John explains that we become God’s children by believing in Jesus. When we love God and concern ourselves only with pleasing God, our faith is strong enough to conquer the evil in our world.
Gospel: John 20:19-31
Jesus appeared to the disciples despite locked doors, breathed on them so that they could receive the Holy Spirit, and gave them the power to forgive sins in his name. Thomas, who was not present, refused to believe without seeing Jesus for himself. Jesus appeared again when Thomas was present, and told him, “Blest are they who have not seen and have believed.”
RECONCILIATION
Saturday 1 PM
Please remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces in your prayers. May they be protected from harm and return home safely and may those who have died in service to our country be remembered with respect and gratitude.
“Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.” - COLOSSIANS 3:2
On this day we thank God for His Son, Jesus, who died, rose and opened the gates of heaven for us. We celebrate and sing
“Alleluia.” Let’s try to keep the joy of this
Easter season in our hearts throughout the year! Pray daily and listen for how God is call-ing each of us to joyfully use our gifts to fulfill His salvation plan.
