NTXAPICS Dallas Marathon Water Station
Desiree L. Ballard
NTXAPICS volunteers battled the cold and rain to support the Dallas Marathon water station
On Sunday December 13
thNTXAPICS members and
friends came out to support the Dallas Marathon water
station mile 10.5 and 21. For some, this is the 25
thyear
to volunteer. We had a great mix of returning
volunteers and first timers.
The day began for the volunteers at 6:30 a.m. Tents
had to be set up to protect sound equipment from the
rain, water had to be poured and Gatorade had to be
mixed and poured. Over twenty thousand runners
participated in the marathon this year. Some ran the
full marathon, some the half marathon, and some
formed five person teams and ran the relay.
The Dallas Marathon course begins and ends in
Downtown Dallas and highlights the best areas of the
city. The marathon provides financial support for Texas
Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC), through
registration fees and sponsorship. TSRHC is one of the
nation’s leading pediatric centers for the treatment of
children with orthopedic conditions, such as scoliosis,
clubfoot, hand disorders, hip disorders and limb length
differences, as well as certain related neurological
disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia.
A special thanks to NTXAPICS for once again
sponsoring this water station. This wouldn’t be
possible without your support!

Scottish Rite Tree Decorating
Sandra Eutsler
On Tuesday, December 1st, North Texas APICS participated in
decorating Christmas trees at the Scottish Rite Hospital for
Children in Dallas. APICS and 60 other organizations gathered
together to decorate.
APICS was recognized and given a plaque for 25 years of service!
Volunteers from our group congregated in the main foyer of the
hospital for the opening ceremony and tree lighting event;
afterwards we began decorating in the motion lab.
We were treated to an old fashioned band playing Christmas
music. After the decorating was done, a nice meal was proudly
served by hospital volunteers.
