About the PiT Count Data Dictionary

The PiT Count Data Dictionary was developed by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to help communities with their Point-in-Time (PiT) Count Data analysis. This Data Dictionary contains the

descriptions of the abbreviated PiT Count survey questions contained in the export files. It also intends to help communities associate the PiT Count survey responses with the corresponding Pit Count Questions.

When a community has completed their PiT Count Data entry into HIFIS 4, the data export zip file from the HIFIS 4 PiT Count module will contain 19 data files. This document explains 14 of those files. The 5 other files do not contain abbreviated PiT Count Questions. Please refer to the HIFIS 4 Point-in-Time Count Module User Guide located on the Homelessness Learning Hub for how to export the HIFIS 4 PiT Count Data and how to download the zip file.

This dictionary is organized by File Name sections. Each File Name section contains descriptions of the abbreviated questions contained in the file along with their potential responses.

The following chart describes which questions are found in which data file as well as the type of questions each file contains. It also indicates the files that are exported to ESDC.
