March 2020

Greetings Arrowhead Families,

Teachers and students will work hard this month to prepare for state testing. Testing is scheduled for March 30th through April 17 for 3rd-6th grade students. The schedule for specific grade levels will be posted on our website. We appreciate in advance your support from home by providing healthy breakfasts and plenty of sleep to ensure your child does his or her best.

Again this year testing will be only in the morning to combat testing fatigue in the afternoon.

Please join us for our school wide Kick- Off Monday Assembly (8:45 am) on March 2nd.

WE HAVE MANY THINGS TO CELEBRATE!

 Our wonderful PTO is working hard to put together our first ever Fitness Challenge. Due to their expertise and high energy, all the proceeds will go directly to the school vs. having a percentage go to an outside agency to handle the details. The Fitness Challenge will be on March 13th. This is a great way to kick off our spring break.

 The Pioneer Peoria Lion’s Club and Crowley’s Dentistry joined us for the Raise the Bar Assembly this month. This gave us the opportunity to thank them for their generous donation of a $1000 Friendship Bench for our playground. Leo the Lion visited 2nd grade classrooms as a special bonus to remind students how important it is to be kind to each other.

 A big WOW goes out to fourth grade and fourth grade teacher, Mrs Almazan. They did an excellent job of performing The Story of Arizona’s Road to Statehood play. The play was written and directed by Mrs. Almazan. The acting and costumes were top notch!! Parents were invited to enjoy the play as well. A great time was had by all!

 Upcoming Events:

AIMs Science testing for grade 4 on March 30 th

AzMerit testing for grades 3rd-6th on March 31st-- April 17th.

School Tour at 4:00 pm on March 26th. Meet in the front office.

As always thanks for your support!

Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Responsible,

Attendance

When calling in an absence, please DO NOT call the main number. The attendance line number is 623-376-4190.

Please be sure to leave a detailed message with your child’s name (spelling out last name),

teacher and reason for absence.

Signing Students Out

To ensure that our academic time is respected, we are asking that parents do not sign students out

between 3:15-3:30. Fifteen minutes a day, added up over a month represents almost a full day of classes missed.

We do ask for ID any time you sign your student

out early so please be sure to always have your ID

on you.

Classroom Parties

The procedure to not allow pre-school children on the school campus for parties has been in place for some years. Whether pre-school children or siblings attend class parties is a school decision until a districtwide procedure is developed. Arrowhead Elementary does not allow pre-school children or siblings to attend class parties.

Parents & Siblings on Campus

Parents who walk their children to the classroom before school must sign-in in the front office and show ID.

Parents may eat lunch with their chil- dren in the cafeteria after signing in and showing ID.

Pre-school children may accompany parents to lunch in the cafeteria.

Parents are not allowed on the play- ground .

Volunteering

Parents who volunteer on a regular or reoccurring basis will need to attend a basic vol- unteer training. Trainings last approximately 30 minutes and you will receive all neces- sary volunteer materials.

Overnight field trip chaperones must be fingerprinted. You MUST attend a training PRIOR to being finger printed. Finger prints take 8 weeks for results to be re- turned to us; allow plenty of time for this to be done.

You can visit http://www.dvusd.org/Page/30647 to check the district wide training schedule. Click the above link to attend a session at another location. Pre-school chil- dren or siblings of current students shall not accompany parents while the parent is serving as a volunteer on the school campus. Please refer the Volunteer handbook.

SCHOOL FUNCTION

A ‘School Function’ is defined as being an activity to which all parents are in- vited. Location of the function is any- where on or off your campus. If all par- ents are invited to the special event, sib- lings are also allowed to attend school special events (concerts, spelling bees, plays, kindergarten end of year gradua- tions, etc.). The siblings must be under the direct supervision of a parent/

guardian during their visit to the school

campus
