God Justice.
“Here, crying aloud, are the wages you withheld from the farmhands who harvested your fi elds.
The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You lived in wanton luxury on the earth; you fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.” James 5:4,5.
James’ strong and challenging words drive home to those who have Isle View. With the eyes of faith, we can see how the way we live our lives affects the quality of life for others. There are so many areas in our lives where this is true.
Just one, specifi c and powerful example is the fabrication of the clothes we wear. Have you ever looked at the labels see where your clothes are from? 99% are from countries like Taiwan, Viet- nam, Haiti and China.
U.S. companies outsource labor because it’s cheaper overseas. The labor laws, if any, do not have anything in place for the protection of the laborer. Therefore, those who make our clothes do not receive wages to pay for daily living. They work long, grueling hours under oppressive condi- tions.
When we go shopping, we always look for the best quality for the cheapest price. Our expecta- tions drive companies to provide just that, no matter how it affects their employees.
People of the Isle have a conscience. Some actually run companies which put into place policies and practices which take the health and the well-being of their employees into consideration. The rest of us need to educate ourselves as to which companies actually do that. Those are the ones we need to patronize even though their products may likely cost more because these companies com- pensate justly.
Also, Isle perspective motivates us to buy products that are made locally. This may move foreign manufacturing to actually make things for their own countries. There is such an irony for good- hearted U.S. citizens to donate shoes to a developing country where they were originally made.
This is God Justice on the Isle.
Father Don
ISLE OF VIEW
PARISH RE-OPENING PLAN
We are moving towards the re-opening of St. Joseph the Worker for indoor public worship. As we continue the planning process of re-opening our church we want to assure you that we have given this considerable thought and attention. The safety of all those attending, including our volunteer ministers, priests, and staff has to be considered in determining when it is best to open our church for daily mass and weekend masses.
• Our plan is to offer outdoor parking lot Masses on Sunday, June 21 and June 28.
• It is our hope to offer our fi rst indoor masses the weekend of July 11/12.
• We will proceed with daily masses that week of July 13.
Of course, all of this is subject to change as pandemic conditions change. In the meantime, we will stream daily masses and contin- ue to offer a recorded weekend mass on our website each weekend. Our practice of streaming masses and providing a recorded mass (with music) will continue even after we make the move inside, as we know that there will be a lot of people that will choose to worship remotely for some time.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate all of this. We appreciate your continued prayers for our parish community and all those impacted by Covid-19. As well, we greatly appreciate your continued CPL support during this time. We rely on your fi nancial generosity in continuing other critical ministries of the parish while paying our monthly commitments.

It is summer time and many people are out and about. We are tired of being cooped up for 3 months and want to just be outside. So on many news stories I see lots of people close to one another and most are not wearing masks. So my thoughts turn to our Commitment to Parish Life.
The parish is not just the priest and a couple of employees. It is everyone. So what makes this a parish is the fact that we take concern for others into account when we make our decisions. Be- cause some people did/do not wear masks and insisted upon getting close to another we hear of many states are experiencing a second round of the virus. As the second round is new we really don’t have numbers on how many are affected and how many have died. I ask you to do your part. Yes, we can go out. No, we can’t yet be with all our friends. At least not in close proximity.
Recently a boy in our neighborhood was celebrating his birthday. There were about 12-18 cars in a drive by celebration. Most dropped off a present on the curb and there was no cake passed back to the cars. But he was ecstatic to see so many people remember him on his birthday. I saw a group of teachers driving past their student’s home wishing them a great summer. People are creative in how they have celebrated. We need to be creative in being with one another from a distance. When we watch out for others health then we truly a parish without borders. People who put into practice the perspective of Jesus to lay down our lives to others. It is a parish in action.

Caring for Creation
May of 2020 was the fi fth anniversary of Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter – Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home.
In Part III of chapter 6 Pope Francis talks about an “ecological conversion” and expresses an interest in how Christian spirituality “can motivate us to a more passionate concern for the pro- tection of our world.” Francis suggests that “the ecological conversion needed to bring about lasting change is also a community conversion.” He mentions a quote from the Australian bishops talking about a reconciliation with creation: “to achieve such reconciliation we must examine our lives and acknowledge ways in which we have harmed God’s creation through our actions and our failure to act. We need to experience a conversion or change of heart.”
Pope Francis asks that we recognize that “God created the world, writing into it an order and dynamism that human beings have no right to ignore.”
The National Catholic Reporter has suggested some organizations that are conducting virtual conversations about climate. To join others in a global conversation consider these links:
Catholicclimatemovement.global, 350.org, and greenfaith.org.
Fr. Mike’s Refl ection
Normal. What is normal? We used to go out our door and talk to our neighbors within feet of another. We would not hesitate to hug a relative or a good friend. We would visit our elderly parents to share food or stories with them. Not anymore. I’ve heard people joke that we should all have bought shares of Zoom in January. Many of us are getting a little Zoomed out and are eager to get back together. But even when we get back together it will be different. We will nod, not hug. We will wave, not shake hands. We will sit, but not as close to one another as before.
We will create a new normal. Human touch it critical to developing a healthy sense of being loved, wanted and needed. Since it is diffi cult to hug friends and neighbors try hugging your family a big more each day. Don’t settle for one from each person. Do one in the morning, one at noon and one at supper time. Maybe even one as we call it a day and go to bed. If I can’t hug others I can certainly hug my family. The more hugs you give away the more you get back. I’ve never heard a person say “I have enough hugs. Go hug someone else!” So hug those who are close and help make all of us healthier during the virus.

Nearly 50 years ago Pope Paul VI issued a letter on Jan. 1, 1972 about the need to fi nd justice in our societies by fi nding out more about other people. The injustices done to so many people need to be addressed. It is amazing how far sighted he was when he wrote this so long ago. maybe with intentional conversations we can begin to see one another as humans on this same planet who have much more in common than things that divide us.
