CARE-A-VAN

What is CARE-A-VAN?

The Care-A-Van is a mobile health clinic serving Antelope Valley and Eastern Kern County residents who live below 200 percent of the federally determined poverty level. Since its start, it has served more than 15,000 people. Without this traveling medical facility, 3,000 children and adults in the Antelope Valley and Eastern Kern County would not have access to basic health care – basic care that keeps healthy children in school, and allows adults to work to support their families.

What is COACH?

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center sponsors the COACH for Kids program in an effort to bring no-cost, quality healthcare services to low-income youngsters. Staffed by Cedars-Sinai professionals, large, fully equipped mobile units - "medical clinics on wheels" - visit economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in Los Angeles County on a regularly scheduled basis. What is HIV/STD Mobile Vehicle?

The STD Mobile Clinic Unit is a 40 ft. long by 9 ft. wide self- contained van with many useful features. The STD Program staff and Community County Coalition members provide

convenient, on-site STD/HIV screening, free of charge. Not only does the mobile clinic enable the STD Program to bring public health services to the people, but it also provides community-based

organizations with a tangible symbol of their commitment to combating the spread of STDs in the community.

What is the LA County Office of Women’s Health?

Since May 2002, the Women's Health Mobile Clinic Outreach Program has been providing free comprehensive health assessments to low-income women in various locations throughout Los Angeles County. Staff are able to assist women in English, Spanish, Armenian, Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese. This innovative program is designed to reach women who would otherwise not be able to access services.

What is Lions Eyemobile Clinic?

Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired. The Lions Eyemobile clinic provides glaucoma screening. In addition to their international SightFirst program, Lions extend their

commitment to sight conservation through countless local efforts. As a service organization, Lions are also involved in a variety of other activities to improve their communities and help people in

need, such as assisting the handicap, visual, and hearing impaired, providing diabetes awareness and education materials, and developing youth programs.

What is the Mobile Health Outreach Project?

Charles R. Drew University provides free HIV and STD screenings to individuals throughout Los Angeles County. What is Partners for Healthy Kids?

Partners for Healthy Kids is a pediatric health care program led by Little Company of Mary and other corporate and community sponors interested in improving the health of children living in under-served communities. The program centers around a brightly colored, kid-friendly "clinic on wheels" custom-built and well-equipped to provide pediatric care to children at elementary, middle and high school sites throughout the greater South Bay and Harbor Communities. In addition, the van participates in immunization clinics sponsored by the community and local businesses and as well as provides medical services to local shelters.

What are USC Mobile Dental Vans?

In its 37-year history, the USC Mobile Clinic has joined in partnership with local communities, government agencies, private foundations, service clubs, and corporations to provide the funding and support needed to deliver dental care services to nearly 77,000 children from low income families in California and Mexico. The Mobile Clinic is staffed by USC students and faculty, with the support of students and faculty from other southern California schools. USC School of Dentistry has become a resource for others seeking to establish mobile health care programs.

What is Watts Health Foundation?

The Watts Health Foundation has been providing care from mobile units since 1987. The organization started with three converted recreational trailers pulled by small pickup trucks. Today, it has 12 mobile health clinics and travels to different sites every day. The Watts Health Foundation treats about 60,000 patients a year in Los Angeles County through its mobile units, about 75% of whom live in South-Central Los Angeles.

What is Save a Smile?

“Save a Smile” Dental Program is an Antelope Valley Partners for Health initiative and is funded by LA Care HealthPlan with Partners. The program is coordinated through the Care-A-Van Mobile Health Clinic. The program works with Hi Desert Children’s Dental Clinic and many local organizations to gain volunteers to treat at-risk children and
