work-manship. Every handcrafted pair must meet strict

requirements before the Tony Lame name goes on.

Here are but a few special quality construction

fea-tures that have earned Tony Lame a reputation for

excellence.

1. BEADING — Stitched between the lining and the

outer leathers, this beautiful border provides

addi-tional support and contrast to the Top leathers.

2. SCALLOPS — Contoured Tops that emphasize

decorative beading and accommodate different leg

sizes. Tony Lame offers a number of scallop designs.

3. PULL STRAPS — All lock stitched for extra

strength. Sturdy stitching on every pull strap

fur-ther reinforces the top and guards against

separa-tion of front and back quarters.

4. LINING —Soft glove-tanned leathers are

ce-mented by hand to the boot parts and stitched

in-side; linings are specially tanned for suppleness and

made to resist the effects of perspiration.

5. FRONT QUARTER — Upper front of the boots,

which showcases quality leathers and beautiful top

stitching.

6. BACK QUARTER — Upper back of the boot,

rein-forced from the inside by a sewn back stay for

ad-ditional support.

7. SIDE WELT—Seams are beveled, quarters are

stitched from the inside, trimmed close, moistened

and pressed flat for maximum comfort and

attrac-tive appearance.

8. TOP STITCH — A leader in beautiful and intricate

stitch patterns, Tony Lame hand-designs its many

patterns. The multi-row, color-coordinated

stitch-ing provides strength and beauty to the boot tops.

9. VAMP FITTING STITCH — Multi-row stitching

—vamps-to-tops — using sturdy and attractive

ny-lon threads for superior strength and durability.

10. VAMP —The front foot of the boot that covers

the toes and instep. Lasting for perfect fit is among

Tony Lama’s traditions.

11. WRINKLE STITCH — Decorative stitching on

the foot of the boot for attractive appearance and

additional strength.

12., 13. TOE BOX & COUNTER — For perfect shape

and protection, the toe and heel areas are contoured

to the shape of the last.

14. GOODYEAR’ WELT — A quality Goodyear° welt

is sewn to the vamp leather and flattened, thus

providing a very strong interlocking stitch to the

outsole.

15. INSOLE—Tony Lama’s insoles are made of

strong, high-quality material for maximum

durabil-ity and comfort.

16. SHANK—Tony Lame utilizes a strong shank

shaped for the exact fit of the arch. This shank

pro-vides the important arch support that makes a Tony

Lame boot so comfortable.

17. RAND — A layer of material between the insole

and the outsole which provides a clean edge for the

base of the heel.

18. OUTSOLE — Tony Lames leather outsoles are

pre-formed for perfect fit to the last. Heat and

pres-sure bond the outsole to the boot; then the outsole

is stitched on.

19. OUTSOLE STITCHING —The outsole is stitched

to the insole via the Goodyear° welt, using a strong

nylon braid.

20. HEEL BASE — Layered leather heels are

posi-tioned on the outside sole and nailed from the

in-side, then carefully shaped and sanded to

perfec-tion.

21. HEEL CAP — Tony Lame uses quality rubber

heel caps for strength, durability and sure-footing.

22. HEEL PAD — A fine leather pad protects the

wearer’s heel inside the boot. This pad is designed

for comfort and moisture absorption.

The traditional “cowboy heel” (#4) is a tall, under slung heel that is also commonly known as a “riding heel”. The “walking heel” (#7), while similarly styled, has a slightly lower heel height. Over the years, the modern “roper heel” (#23) was created to meet the needs of rodeo cowboys, particularly those involved in calf roping. In an event that re-quires the competitor to rope a calf from their horse before dismounting, running to, and ty-ing the calf, the lower, squared-off heel made running easier.
