P

resident Franklin D. Roosevelt attempted to stabilize the U.S. dollar in 1933 from the ravages of the Great Depression. He decided to confiscate U.S. gold coins from the citizens – by Executive Order—in exchange for paper U.S. currency notes. Some historians believe this was the beginning of the shrinking U.S. Dollar, as the government melted the majority of confiscated coins into bars and then devalued the dollar, raising gold’s value by nearly 75%.

Americans were required by the Presidential Executive Order to turn their gold coins in to a Federal Reserve Bank in exchange for currency, under the severe penalty of a $10,000 cash fine and 10 years potential imprisonment. There were a few exceptions to the order, including:

“Gold Coins having a recognized special value to collectors or rare and unusual coins.”

Because the majority of U.S. gold coins were melted into bars, any existing “Pre-1933” era U.S. gold coins remaining today have both a gold value and a scarcity value because of high investor demand, and low supply.

Owning gold coins protects against the shrinking dollar, inflation, and the volatile financial markets worldwide.

PHYSICAL GOLD. WHY NOW?

An American Tradition – Gold as Preservation of Wealth

L

ook at the Consumer Price Index Chart below. Since the founding of our country, Americans have paid an increasing amount every year for goods and services. Everyone in the USA knows that the prices at the grocery store and the prices at the gas station have increased every year.

Before the Gold Confiscation of 1933, when the U.S. Government took America off the gold standard, it was the “American Tradition” to own physical gold. Why? Simply put, for preservation of wealth and to hedge against inflation. The citizens did not necessarily believe in the U.S. Dollar as the standard currency. After 1933, once most of the U.S. gold was returned to the Federal Reserve and melted down (with the threat of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine), the price of gold rose from $20 to $35 an ounce, starting the depreciation of the U.S. dollar, and thereby, the appreciation of Gold prices.

Look at the Inflation Chart below. Americans have experienced an 87% decline in purchasing power of the U.S. dollar since 1950, as the dollar was no longer backed by physical gold.

THE SHRINKING U.S. DOLLAR

T

he U.S. dollar is shrinking in value.

It is obvious to everyone; a dollar does not buy what it used to! The U.S. Government is printing money at an increasing rate and the Federal Reserve Money Supply has doubled since 2008! The new global economy which has developed over the last ten years has seen a boom in the development of China, Brazil, India and Russia. The world is awash in U.S. dollars as the U.S. has sent trillions of dollars abroad to pay for products, services and commodities. According to a government report, the U.S. Dollar Index is down 37% since the year 2001. Therefore, if you had $100,000 in U.S. dollars in 2001, and the buying power has been shrinking every year, in early 2010 you would be able to buy $37,000 fewer

worth of goods and services. Simply put, the U.S. dollars in your pocket bought you fewer products and services each and every year. With the federal bailouts and federal economic stimulus packages approved by Congress during 2008-2009, the U.S. Money Supply has skyrocketed. The U.S. dollar is being “watered down” in value.

Gold, on the other hand, has steadily increased in value over the last ten year cycle while the U.S. Money Supply has more than doubled. Gold prices have

increased approximately 350% since

2000 through 2010. Many institutions have purchased gold for protection against the paper markets, including the 152 year old insurance company Northwestern Mutual Insurance, who in 2009 purchased $400 Million in physical gold for portfolio protection.

Savvy investors worldwide utilize gold as a hedge against inflation and to balance the effects of the “Shrinking U.S. Dollar”. Gold, as part of a well-balanced portfolio, is the ultimate portfolio diversifier. Gold tends to appreciate while stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and paper currency values fall. In addition, gold is the ultimate safe haven investment in times of geopolitical tensions and financial market instabilities. During uncertain times, investors must hope for the best and prepare fo the worst. Can you afford not to be protected?

Can you drive your car without auto insurance?

Can you afford to live without health insurance?

Can you sleep at night without home insurance?

Finally,

Can you have

without financial insurance for your paper assets?

ooking for profits? Industry experts are now forecasting the price of gold to potentially rise past $1,500 to $2,500 per ounce in the next five years. This could trans-late a return anywhere between 40% to over 100%!

The institutional divisions of Bank of America, Citicorp, UBS, and Barclays Bank have forecast increasing gold prices. “Smart Money”, including investors such as U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, companies such as Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance are investing in Gold. Also institutional buyers such as The Bank of China, The Bank of In-dia, and Saudi Arabia have been investing in physical Gold and they recently announced new gold buying programs.

GOLD FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

The “American Tradition” : Pre - 1933 GOLD

Only a small percentage of “Pre-1933” Gold Coins survived

the confiscation of U.S. gold in 1933. Minted for use as currency in the USA from 1795 to 1933, the meltdown of these coins has created a low supply and high demand in gold. These gold coins

provide both “gold value” and “scarcity” value for the investor

today. Certified high grade “Pre-1933” U.S. Gold provide the investor with U.S. Gold which is protected and authenticated in sonically sealed, encapsulated holders, certified by

independent laboratory and grading service PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) or NGC (National Guaranty Corporation). For privacy, no Social Security

number is required to acquire Pre-1933 Gold and no 1099

is required to be issued when they are sold.

based on market gold spot prices. Supply and demand factors have come into play during the years 2008-2009, as the U.S. Mint has closed its doors three times. For the first time in history the U.S. government has run out of gold! The U.S. Congress has mandated the minting

of U.S. Gold Eagles from gold mined from U.S. soil.

However, the investor demand for U.S. Eagles has outstripped the U.S. gold supply three times in a 12 month period in 2008-2009.

These gold coins provide both “gold” and “scarcity” value.

Swiss 20 Franc Gold Coin

These are one of the world’s most known and universally accepted gold coins. This coinage series was authorized on January 6, 1896. The name of the coin derives from

“Verena”, a personification of the Confederation of Switzerland in the female effigy. The coin is also known as a Helvetia from the inscription above the portrait. These coins were issued between 1897 and 1949.

French 20 Franc Rooster Gold Coin

The Gallic rooster (French: le coq gaulois) is a national symbol. It gained particular popularity during the French Revolution, and has been a national emblem ever since. The rooster was featured on the reverse of French 20-franc gold pieces from 1899 to 1914. The original mintage of these gold coins was fairly limited. Scarcity was increased by the melting of millions of gold 20 Francs during the 1930’s after private ownership of gold was outlawed in the United States. Even more were melted in the 1970’s to the 1980’s when gold soared to $850 per ounce. Surviving French 20 Franc Rooster gold coins are especially desirable today.

British Sovereign Gold Coin

In Victorian times it was the practice of the Bank of England to remove worn sovereigns and half sovereigns

from circulation and have them recoined. Consequently, although a billion sovereigns have been minted in total, that figure includes gold that has been coined and recoined a number of times. When gold coins were finally withdrawn from circulation in 1933 in the US, thousands of British gold sovereigns were consigned to the melting pot.

European Beauties

One of the world’s most recognized gold coins.

The original mintage of these gold coins was fairly limited.

The world’s most widely distributed coin.

THE LOST DECADE ...

Y

ou may be shocked to learn how badly U.S. stocks have performed in the last ten years. Let’s say you had $ 100,000 on January 1, 2000 invested in the NASDAQ Index, your portfolio would be worth only $54,928 in January 2010.

Or, let’s say you had $ 100,000 in the S&P 500 Index, your investment would have lost more than 23% and be worth only $76,628.

The U.S. Dollar;

See the Gold vs. Dollar index chart below. If you had $100,000 invested in U.S. dollars in 2001, it would have lost $37,000 in purchasing power for goods and services in early 2010. Therefore, the $100,000 in cash buys you only $63,000 worth of goods and services in early 2010.

And The Gold;

N

ow it’s proven that it takes more than stocks and bonds to build a rock-solid portfolio. Considering how close the world has come to a total financial meltdown. It has never been more important to own physical gold to protect your portfolio against the shrinking U.S. dollar.

What does this mean? Physical gold provides Wealth Preservation and Portfolio Protection against the U.S. federal bailouts which make the U.S. dollar a depreciating asset. Hedge yourself for the next 5-10 years and get protection against inflation and the global bear market.

GOLD VS. DOW JONES

Stocks – Buy and Hold Strategy is Dead

The Dow Jones was 14,000 points in 2007...

M

any experts today say the “buy and hold” strategy of stock investment is a dead idea. Why? Because the Dow Jones Industrial Average is back to what is was in the year 1998. So, if investors purchased stocks back in 1998 they have experienced a roller-coaster ride between the boom and bust of technology stock in the year 2000, the credit crisis of 2007, and the financial meltdown in September 2008. The Dow Jones is down 8% for the period 2001 to 2010. The Wall Street Journal calls this period the “Lost Decade in Stocks.”

G

old prices, on the other hand, have experienced a positive growth during the same period. In fact, gold prices have increased 397% since 2000. Supply and demand factors such as the increased buying of gold from Saudi Arabia, India, and global super-power China have exhausted gold mining supplies. The 9/11 attacks and the continued terrorist threats have alerted investors to the fact that some assets should be allocated into physical gold to protect their portfolios. Gold is true value, true wealth which is now appreciated by everyone worldwide to protect their “nest egg” – whether they are a Central Bank or an individual investor.
