New Enhancements in ProgressBook Suite v10.1

ProgressBook

The following enhancements have been made in ProgressBook in this release.

Live Period Attendance for the DASL Student Information System

ProgressBook has been updated to allow schools to read, save, modify and delete period attendance and period attendance by block data, where available on a real-time basis, for school districts that integrate with the DASL student information system. For districts that have been using period attendance in DASL for daily attendance this school year, you can enable live period attendance in ProgressBook. For districts that have not already been using period attendance in DASL, if you enable this option in the middle of the school year, period attendance absence type codes previously entered in ProgressBook will no longer be visible on the Period Attendance screen or on the Parent Access Web Site. To maintain a complete history of period attendance records for the school year, previously entered period attendance information must be entered into DASL before enabling live period attendance data integration.

For districts using live period attendance, absence type codes should always be set up in your student information system and then imported into ProgressBook.

Period Attendance Tab on School Feature Setup Screen

The following additions and modifications have been made on the Period Attendance tab on the School Feature Setup screen:

• The check box above the feature column heading for all the features has been removed. To enable a feature for all the schools on the screen, select the check box in the All schools row.

• When users hover over the column heading a description of the feature dis-plays.

• The Offer Period Attendance column has been renamed Enable. • The Allow Prior Day Changes column has been renamed Prior Day.

(2)

Software Answers, Inc. 2

• The ability of users with master and school administrator privileges to specify the desired number of days prior to the current date for which users with teacher privileges can enter or modify period attendance on the Period Atten-dance screen or Seating Chart has been added. See Set Prior Days to Change Period Attendance in What’s New in ProgressBook Suite v10.1? for a detailed description.

• The Enable Live SIS Integration has been renamed Live Integration. • The Allow Attendance By Block column has been renamed By Block. • The Enable Auto-Roster Updates (SMS Only) column has been renamed

Auto-Roster.

• When users select or deselect a check box for a feature, it is automatically saved. It is no longer necessary to click Save in the Web site banner. • When a selection has been successfully saved, the following message

dis-plays, "Feature updated successfully."

• When a selection has not been saved, one of the following messages may dis-play, “Update of feature failed” or “There was a problem saving your

changes.”

Absence Type Codes and Informational Messages

For districts that integrate with the DASL student information system and run live period attendance, if the attendance staff entered an absence type code in DASL that has not been imported yet into ProgressBook during the data integration process, "DASL code" displays in the Class Attendance list on the Period Attendance screen.

When users save an absence type code for a student that was manually added in Pro-gressBook rather than imported from DASL, the code cannot be saved into DASL but is saved in ProgressBook. In this scenario once the user saves on the Period Atten-dance screen, the code does not display in the Class AttenAtten-dance list and the following message displays, "Attendance data for one or more students did not save success-fully." Absence types codes that have not been saved in DASL do not display on the Period Attendance screen. However, absence codes that have been saved in Progress-Book do display in Period Attendance view on the Grade Progress-Book Grid.

Bindings config.sample file for DASL Student Information System

For school districts that integrate with the DASL student information system, to allow ProgressBook to recognize the authentication type designated in the client.config file, the following binding names were added to the bindings config.sample file:

• BasicHttpBinding_DaslRealTimeAPI • BasicHttpBinding_DaslRealTimeAPISSL • BasicHttpBinding_DaslRealTimeAPIWindows

• The class average, if selected when generating the report, displays centered in the reporting period header.

• In the Single-column format, the assignment weight text has been changed from “Wt.” to “Weight:” and displays if the weight of the assignment is not equal to 1. • In the 2-column format, the assignment weight text has been changed from

“Weight:” to “Wt.”

Software Answers Framework Installation Wizard

The Software Answers Framework Installation Wizard has been created to improve the ProgressBook Framework installation process. This installation wizard includes the FrameworkDatabase.msi, FrameworkFileMaintenanceService.msi and Frame-workWeb.msi files, which previously were required to be installed separately. Once Framework has been installed, you can upgrade to a new version or uninstall the appli-cation by accessing the wizard from the Start menu.

Updated Guidelines for Customized ProgressBook

Report Builder Reports

Guidelines for creating customized ProgressBook Report Builder reports using Micro-soft SQL Server Report Builder, including the ability to create reports based on multi-ple data sets, additional list parameters and the ability to hide filter fields, have been updated. The addition of events that are logged in the Software Answers Framework event log and the display of error descriptions in the Windows Event Viewer has also been updated. For further details, refer to the ProgressBook v10.1 Report Builder Management Guide.

Error Handling

Ability to View Error Details on Error Screen

To enable the ability to view error descriptions on the ProgressBook Error screen when an error occurs, the ExceptionPassword key has been added to the Framework appSettings.config file. Users with network or server administrator privileges must enter a value for the ExceptionPassword key. It is recommended to enter a value that is the password for the ProgressBook master account login. This value is empty by default so if a value is not defined for the ExceptionPassword key, the ability to view error details is disabled.

Once error detail viewing has been enabled and if an error occurs, the ProgressBook Error screen displays. Type the password value that was entered for the Exception-Password key in the appSettings.config file in the field that displays below the stan-dard error message on the ProgressBook Error screen, and then click Show Details to display the error description. This error description can be used for troubleshooting purposes. For further details, refer to the ProgressBook Suite v10.1 Upgrade Instruc-tions or ProgressBook v10.1 Report Builder Management Guide.
