Children’s Care, Early Years and Teaching Assistants

Working with children or young people is a profession for people who want to make a real difference. If you feel you have commitment, enthusiasm and lots of energy to develop new and existing skills working in these sectors, then this could be the career for you. There are opportunities for you to progress in your chosen field no matter what your starting point is; we offer progression routes from Entry Level to Level 2 and we are now offering the new Intro to Early Years Education and Care at Level 2. This new qualification is the benchmark for early years professionals.

English and Maths

English - whatever sort of job you want to do you will need a good level of English. Whatever your need we offer a range of courses in English from pre-entry to Level 2 and GCSE. Don’t worry about what level you are now, when you come to see us we will assess your current level of English and be able to advise you on what is the best course for you.

Maths - maths and numeracy skills are essential both in the workplace and at home. Employers are looking for people who are able to work confidently with numbers and place a high value on this skill. We offer a number of maths courses to help you improve your numeracy skills from entry level to Level 2 and GCSE.

If, before you enrol, you think you may need additional help to do your course, just ask one of our centre staff for an additional learning support (ALS) form (a member of staff can help you complete this if you need help, just ask).

(32)

Your request will be treated in the strictest confidence and you will be invited to an assessment by one of our qualified staff. Your permission will be sought before any information is passed on to anyone. If you are on a course and think you need help, talk to your tutor who can arrange an assessment for you.

ICT rooms in our dedicated centres are available to learners to use out of class time, when courses are not running. We also have computers in the Latimer Lounge at our Meadowbank Centre and Hounslow library that can be used whenever the centre or library is open. It’s advisable to phone to book in advance. If you are experiencing financial hardship and are unable to meet all the costs of your course, please ask the staff at the main centre and they will be able to advise you about our Discretionary Learner Support Funding, which is available for certain qualification courses.

Can I pay by instalments?

If courses cost more than £150 and you cannot pay the whole fee at enrolment you can pay the fee in monthly Direct Debit instalments, which will be agreed on an individual basis.
