Center for Healthcare Innovation

CHI is an independent, 501(c)(3) research and educational institute that helps pa-tients and providers increase their knowledge and understanding of the op-portunities and challenges of maximizing healthcare value to improve health and quality of life. We aim to make the world a healthier place. CHI encourages and enables meaningful and executable inno-vation that aims to address existing and ensuing healthcare dynamics through communication, education, training, sym-posia, reports, and research. By bringing the best and brightest healthcare leaders from all over the world together to share their ideas and expertise, CHI creates a unique opportunity to address and im-prove healthcare value, which we view as a function of quality, access, and cost.

Understanding What Patient-Centric

Healthcare Value Really Means

Dear Executive Roundtable Attendees,

On behalf of the Center for Healthcare Innovation (CHI), we welcome you to the Understanding Value in a Consumer-Oriented, Patient-Centric Era Roundtable. Today’s Roundtable is an exclusive discussion bringing togeth-er the top thought-leadtogeth-ers, visionaries, and executives from the patient ad-vocate, provider, payer, pharma, biotech, and device sectors to discuss and increase understanding of what patient-centric healthcare value means in the 21st century.

The healthcare landscape has rapidly shifted towards a consumer-driven, patient-centric model of care delivery. Today’s patients have become more empowered in their health and well-being, better informed, and more finan-cially invested than ever before. This paradigm shift has dramatic implica-tions not only for patients, but also for industry as these latter groups at-tempt to define and deliver patient-centric healthcare value. Furthermore, the Roundtable explores the relationship between the definition of value, quality, access, and cost issues. As healthcare costs continue to rise, capi-tation payment models become the new norm, and incentives shift as a re-sult of moving to a value-based healthcare system, understanding and inte-grating patient-centricity into healthcare value will become more important than ever.

We thank you all for joining today’s discussion. We wish you an informative and productive afternoon of learning, and hope you learn new, actionable ideas about patient-centricity that you can take back to your organizations.

Kindest Regards,

Joseph P. Gaspero President & Co-Founder

Upcoming Research & Education

The Patient as Innovator Educational Workshop

The Patient as Innovator workshop is an educational forum for patients, providers, payers, and policymakers to discuss innova-tive ways to create an earlier intersection between patients and developers of medical technologies in order to deliver a more informed, value-driven approach to the innovation of new medical solutions, technologies, and treatments. In today’s healthcare landscape, patients are dramatically more informed, empowered, and financially invested in their health and well-being than ev-er before. Technology has also made today’s patients as savvy and informed as evev-er. Additionally, providev-ers, payev-ers, and poli-cymakers are faced with rising costs, increasing demand, and other pressures as healthcare transitions to a value-based system. Thus, it is critical to engage key stakeholders and incorporate their perspectives earlier in development phases in order to en-sure that provider organizations deliver healthcare products that are producing maximum value and quality, increasing access, and reducing costs for patients. The Patient as Innovator workshop educates patients, providers, payers, and policymakers on how to create earlier collaboration and incorporate all perspectives into medical innovation.

Pharmaceutical-ACO Collaboration Research Report

A comprehensive research report examining pharma-ACO collaboration. The U.S. spends more on healthcare than many other industrialized nations while not necessarily matching quality. The ACOs that were created out of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) were introduced to improve access to quality care while simultaneously reducing costs. As phar-ma, providers, and other healthcare stakeholders move to a value-based system with an emphasis on driving value for the pa-tient, new and innovative partnerships and collaboration will be more important that even. The research report aims to ex-plore pharma-ACO collaboration and other innovative partnership models.

The white pa-per will also explore some of the challenges that organizations face in attempting to implement these ideas.
