1e followed the g#ide lines of <= G/> codes and we set the ector sift setting to ? @eg. !#t we are eperiencing freB#ent ector shift relay actiations0 and hard sh#tdowns of the generator set 0 $eca#se o#r grid s#pply is "ainly $ased on hydro power syste"0 and has ery low stiffness.
@#e to the reclosers operations that is connected to the near $y ++V feeders we are eperiencing switching s#rges and hence0 triggers o#r ector shift relay.
I hae noticed in %"$edded generation tet $oos that indicates we sho#ld increase this VS. setting to 8*+ deg as o#r grid syste" is wea.
I need to now that if we increase this setting C Is this $ad for the GeneratorD 1hat are the other options we hae to protect the generatorD
I thin pole slip protection 78PS0 is si"ilar to ector shift and we sho#ld incorporate pole slip protection and increase ector shift al#e to *+ deg.

he Vector shift is an electrical characteristic and is the sa"e for any type of f#el or pri"e "oer. It will depend on the "achine si3e and electrical withstand capa$ility of the "achine in ter"s of asynchrono#s operation..
he 4;:;& is a "echanical f#nction and will not depend on grid oltage.. <s#ally the g#idelines #sed is the acceleration rate of the "achine set .. As an ea"ple if yo# set the

he 4;:& protection is $asically the grid fail#re relay.. his is needed definitely in s"all power plants connected to the grid. ;nce the #tility fails the genset will try to tae the entire load and will p#ll the freB#ency down ery rapid as the load will "e "#ch "ore than the capacity of the generators. @#ring this sit#ation there will not $e any ector shift and hence the set will collapse. his can ca#se da"age to the engine so we need 4;:& protection.
he ector shift is $asically to protect against a#to reclose f#nction of the grid. 1hen the a#to reclose is actiated then i""ediately on trip the grid will reclose instantaneo#sly. his an happen o#t of synchroni3ation also so we need the ector shift protection for protecting yo#r generator. Also when there is heay fa#lt on the grid there will $e a condition when the
generator can $e p#lled o#t of synchroni3ation. In this condition also the ector shift can occ#r. !asically the 4;:& is for protecting heay loading of the engine and Vector Shift is to protect Generator fro" the a#to reclose f#nction or heay fa#lts on the grid which can p#ll the genset o#t of synchroni3ation.
