This programme gives students knowledge of planning, designing and implementing the installation of a network operating system and application software for the network. Students learn to develop disaster recovery plans and organisational policies, create baselines, monitor performance using a system/ network monitor and log files to evaluate performance.

COURSE STRUCTURE

This two-year programme of study focuses on the theory and practice of a range of computing systems and networks, and how these systems are used to support business practices. It aims to produce graduates with a sound technical understanding of information technology and the application of IT to business information systems. The course has an emphasis on developing skills in problem solving, interpersonal communication and addressing IT problems in a range of contexts.

The programme’s core is the fundamentals of information systems, hardware and software infrastructure, user applications and communication. In the second year students are able to specialise in networking or user support.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The aim of this diploma is to provide students with a broad base of business knowledge and skills in general areas such as accounting, law, communications or economics. This qualification also provides the opportunity to specialise in areas such as accounting, marketing or human resource management.

To achieve the award of New Zealand Diploma In Business Level 6 students must pass a total of 240 credits, including:

A minimum of 120 credits at Level 5;

A minimum of 80 credits at Level 6;

120 credits from the Core Prescriptions; and

120 credits from the Elective List.

International students must be enrolled full time and attend classes for 20 hours per week, as per New Zealand Immigration requirements.

Fifty credits at level two with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level two or above in English or Te Reo Māori; 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing. The literacy credits will be achieved from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards or equivalent of both of the above.

OVERVIEW

The aim of this Diploma is for students to be immersed in a holistic overview of organisations, engaging in critical thinking, problem solving and analytical analyses of business related problems. This will help develop rational and appropriate solutions in order to successfully work in the business sector of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

OVERVIEW

COURSE STRUCTURE

This course will help students gain a new perspective on their own abilities and creativity, and also prepare them thoroughly for entry into NZSE’s Diploma in Design (Level 7).

The first year of this program includes a graphic design and communication studio, drawing, design principles and colour theory, applied graphics and imaging, graphic and multimedia studio, computing for design, 21st century design and culture and the study of design research interactive systems.

Year two of the programme covers the study of print media and graphic design, visual communication and imaging, online and offline multimedia environments, sustainable design, graphics for products and spaces, integrated visual systems, digital media and design, and design and its subculture.

The program also covers understanding of a graphic designer’s role in history, society and research. It explores the issues of culture, economics and social implications of graphic design solutions.

240 credits with 14 modules

ENTRY CR ITER IA Academic Entry Criteria: Achieved NCEA Level 2 or equivalent Portfolio requirements for all design & animation applicants:

Students must demonstrate the necessary ability and attitude to cope with a two year Level 6 programme, through the presentation of a portfolio of their work - six to eight representative samples of recent creative work that reflects the range of the student’s creative skills and potential. These can be any media, e.g. digital images, paintings, drawings, sketches and/or workbooks.

A 500-word essay outlining relevant background, experience, and interests as well as career goals must also be submitted. Students may be interviewed by the tutor if necessary.

Discretionary Entrance: All applicants for discretionary entrance will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English Requirement: Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic) or successful completion of NZSE’s English Language Test.

COURSE STRUCTURE

This course will develop a reflective designer who can work independently and in teams. It will enhance the knowledge and applied design skills of participants to the level of an independent practitioner.

This will also enable participants to deepen their understanding of the social context and theoretical underpinnings of design solutions.

The course covers design theory, design studio, design context and design practice, which includes an Internship.

122 credits with 11 modules ENTRY CR ITER IA Discretionary Entrance:

Have successfully completed all the requirements of the 2 year NZSE Diploma in Design Level 6 (or equivalent as determined by NZSE staff) and in that time demonstrated an aptitude for art and design. 

Have successfully passed the third year interview selection process. 

Have the necessary academic ability and attitude to cope with a third year diploma programme, as demonstrated in writing and in a portfolio of work from the previous 2 years. (Acceptable courses must have been at least 2 years long and end at Level 6, e.g. one year level 5 then one year level 6) 

Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic). 

International students need to provide evidence that they have completed a design course at the right level (Level 6), and that they have training in Adobe Creative Suite Software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Dreamweaver).

OVERVIEW

COURSE STRUCTURE

This diploma is ideal for people who want to pursue a career in the animation industry in New Zealand and worldwide. Students will explore the fundamentals of animation and the creative process. It will equip students with the skills to use industry-standard applications such as Autodesk and Adobe software.

As they progress in the programme, students will advance their skills in applications such as Autodesk Maya from pre-production design to post-production. They will learn how to integrate visual effects into their projects, and also refine their drawing and painting skills.

The course content has been prepared by industry professionals and experienced NZSE lecturers. All course components consist of practical assignments that allow students to work closely with tutors . The combination of lectures, group activities, research, field trips, weekly critiques, guest speakers and projects will deliver a well-rounded education to students.

160 credits distributed across 12 modules

ENTRY CR ITER IA Portfolio requirements for all design and animation applicants: Students must demonstrate the necessary ability and attitude to cope with a one-year Level 6 programme, through the presentation of a portfolio of their work - six to eight representative samples of recent creative work that reflects the range of the student’s creative skills and potential. These can be any media e.g. digital images, paintings, drawings, sketches and/or workbooks.

A 500-word essay outlining relevant background, experience, and interests as well as career goals must also be submitted. Students may be interviewed by the tutor if necessary.

Discretionary Entrance: All applicants for discretionary entrance will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English Requirement: Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic) or successful completion of NZSE’s English Language Test.

PATHWAY OPPORTUNITIES Graduates from this Diploma with a good academic record will be eligible to progress to the NZSE Diploma in 3D Animation Level 7, or onto a Bachelor of Art and Design.

COURSE STRUCTURE

This programme enables students to gain advanced specialist skills and knowledge in 3D animation. Learners will have an opportunity to explore specialised software applications, modules and techniques to create animated pieces for their demo showreels. Their show reels will showcase each student’s unique ability and creativity, as well as offering them the chance to produce animation for movie and TV productions, scientific and medical visualisation, and other commercial applications.

The assignments are structured to enable students to develop best-practice in becoming a professional animator in a commercial working environment.

160 credits distributed across 15 modules

ENTRY CR ITER IA Have successfully completed all the requirements of the Diploma in 3D Animation (Level 6) or equivalent, as determined by NZSE faculty

Portfolio requirements for all design and animation applicants: Submit a portfolio of work done in previous years of study. This should include a short animation film and a few 3D animation images. Students will need to demonstrate the use of 3D software (Autodesk Maya) at a proficient level. Students must have successfully participated in an interview selection process if required.

COURSE STRUCTURE

This Certificate provides students with a 17 week programme of study in academic skills. These focus on introducing students to the requirements of academic study at a tertiary level. It aims to produce graduates who are capable of undertaking academic studies in the field of their choice.

The core modules are designed to introduce students to the rigours of studying at a tertiary level. In the Academic Skills module students learn about finding, assessing and analysing information, referencing, working in groups, study skills such as note-taking, exam preparation, etc. In the Data Analysis module, basic mathematical skills are introduced and practiced, while in the Information Technology module students become familiar with use of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software along with how to use the Internet to source information and to communicate effectively.

The elective modules allow students to learn terms and underlying principles in their chosen field of study.

60 credits with 4 modules

ENTRY CR ITER IA Entry to this programme is open, provided applicants meet requirements in speaking, listening, reading and writing as assessed at an interview.

PRE-ARRIVAL ADVICE AND INFORMATION

Even before the students arrive we make sure they have made their arrival arrangements. We provide support with organising their home stay if necessary and airport pick up. Our Facebook page is an active forum where students chat and make friends even before they get here and get to know about what they can expect when they commence their journey with us.

ENGLISH ONLINE

Our online English learning module is available to students to give them the opportunity to improve overall communication skills. Students can benefit from this program, while they are studying for their course. The language training helps students to become more confident in their social interactions and academic performance.

ORIENTATION

The comprehensive orientation programme ensures the students are familiar with their surroundings, get all the information required to find their way around the school and the suburb, understand the expectations of the school and general rules to be followed in their new country of study.

STUDENT MENTORING

The NZSE student mentoring programme identifies experienced students who can mentor freshers who require academic or personal support. Mentors can relate to newcomers because they have experienced many of the same challenges themselves. The mentor provides consistent support, guidance, and concrete help to a student who is in need of a positive role model.
