opening double or single glazed light. The integral lower flashing (1.3mm lead for Purilan UNV and sheet aluminium for Purilan L models) removes the need for a separate, difficult-to-seal site joint between frame and flashing for most situations, thus providing for easier installations.
The casement stay is designed to hold the skylight casement in three positions – it may also be released from the frame for even wider opening. Units with the suffix E are external locking with a single barrel lock.
Purilan skylights are ideal where ventilation and light are required via the pitched roof finish. With specialist units for both slated and tiled roofs and the choice of single and double glazing, they are suitable for workrooms or hobby areas and for corridors and stairwells. The Purilan is also particularly suited for the replacement of cast iron skylights. The external locking units are produced for situations where a pitched roof is added to an existing flat roof and services requiring maintenance are then isolated in the newly created roof void.

Our range of capped ridge vents provides
effective ventilation while maintaining the
roofline and is designed to match most of
the popular styles of ridge tiles. Uncapped
vents allow you to use your own choice of
ridge tile while still complying with building
regulations.
Ridge Vents
The VRC is a vented ridge tile comprising a metal under ridge vent combined with a PVC-u moulded cap which can be supplied in standard roofing colours or coloured & textured to individual requirements.
For high level ventilation each 450mm long Capped Ridge Vent provides a 12,500mm2
free vent area – 6,250mm2
on either side of the ridge. To achieve the equivalent of 5mm continuous ventilation on either side of the ridge they should be fitted every 1.25 metres. Incorporated in each unit is an expanded metal mesh insect screen to inhibit large insects and vermin.
VRC vents are installed by bedding in mortar and securing via the predrilled fixing strips to a suitable roof timber. There are VRC vents for both segmental and angled ridge tiles.
Matching units are also available for the termination of building services – See Ridge Terminals on page 29.
MATERIAL
Cover cap: PVC-u.
Vent: powder coated galvanised steel with expanded metal insect inhibitor.
ROOF FINISH
VRC’s are pre-profiled to match most popular ridge tiles.
VRC Capped Ridge Vent
DESIGN & PERFORMANCE
Metal Ridge Vents provide roof void ventilation on either side of a conventional ridge tile. The width of the vent can be adjusted to suit individual types of ridge tile by releasing/ tightening a slotted screw.
There are two sizes of MRV available to suit 305mm and 450mm ridge tiles and the free vent areas provided are 6010mm2
and 9000mm2
respectively. To achieve the equivalent of 5mm continuous ventilation on either side of the ridge, they should be spaced as follows:
305mm – every 0.6 metres 450mm – every 0.9 metres Each vent has an integral expanded metal insect inhibitor. This mesh continues under the vent to aid grip to the mortar bed.
MRV Metal Ridge Vent
DESIGN & PERFORMANCE
The MRV is installed underneath a standard hip tile or trimmed ridge tile in order to maintain the ridge line. Each unit is mortared in place and also mechanically fixed via the predrilled end fixing strips. The ridge tile is then mortared onto the vent.

DESIGN & PERFORMANCE
roof pitches 15° - 70° although below 23° additional support may be needed for the support flap to prevent ponding: OFVS10 & OFVS/10L provide 900mm length x 10mm continuous ventilation OFVS25 & OFVS25/L provide 480mm length x 25mm continuous ventilation The interlocked strips are nailed to the top of the fascia and nail fixings should be calculated in accordance with BS5534. The fixing points are designed to eliminate any water leakage as are the interlocks between strips.
It should be noted that some cellular PVC-u fascia boards cannot take vertical fixings. In such cases the system may be fixed through its underlay support into a batten fixed to the rafters behind the fascia board. However, space must be left between the back of the fascia board and the fixing batten to allow air to pass into the roof void.
In full boarded roofs, a section of boarding immediately behind the fascia should be removed to allow air to pass into the roof void.
At hips and valleys, the system should be sawn to form tight fitting mitred joints. To prevent possible leakage at valleys, a flashing of underlay material should be positioned under the joint to discharge into the gutter.

Abutment
Vents
The Ubbink Lean-to Abutment Vent is an interlocking system which provides a continuous 5mm of ventilation where a monopitch roof abuts a wall. Each strip of LTV provides 900mm working length.
The spacers provided are positioned behind a batten which is fixed to the wall above the abutment joint. This allows the ventilation introduced by the LTV strip to pass behind this batten into the roof void. A lead strip is attached to the front of the batten and dressed down over the roof finish. The LTV vented strip is nailed to the top of the batten. A further strip of lead is raggled into the nearest mortar joint above the fitted strip, dressed down over the LTV and held tight to it by the integral stainless steel clips.
LTV Lean-to Roof Vent
DESIGN & PERFORMANCE
The Metal Mono Vent provides the equivalent of a continuous 5mm of ventilation where a monopitch roof abuts a wall.
Metal Mono Vents are available in two sizes:
345mm long x 150mm wide x 19mm deep for use with rafters at 400mm centres
545mm long x 150mm wide x 19mm deep for use with rafters at 600mm
Metal Mono Vent
DESIGN & PERFORMANCE
The following are the free ventilation areas of the units and the spacings necessary to achieve the equivalent of 5mm of continuous ventilation:
345mm long – 5,440mm2
– every 1 metre (adjusted to nearest rafter spacings)
545mm long – 8,640mm2
– every 1.7 metres (adjusted to nearest rafter spacings)
These units are V-shaped funnels which incorporate an integral expanded metal insect inhibitor. Installation is by slotting into place between the rafters and the abutment joint is then weathered by a lead flashing strip which is raggled into the mortar joint above the abutment and dressed onto the Metal Mono Vent. The gap between the underside of the vent and roof finish should be sealed.

DESIGN & PERFORMANCE
The Ubbink Eaves Protection System is designed for use in both refurbishment projects and new build to provide an effective level of eaves protection. The 1.5m rigid pre-formed strips are suitable for use in roof pitches of 15° to 70°. On existing buildings EPS can be used to replace rotted gutter felt with the minimum of disruption to the existing slate or tile roof covering.
In new build situations, the preformed EPS strip directs water away from the underlay and into the gutter. At the same time it provides an effective underlay support flap, preventing ponding of the underlay behind the fascia board. EPS is ideal for use with the new generation of lightweight, high performance underlays, which are not suitable for forming a drip into the gutter. EPS is fixed to the top of the fascia with clout nails. If a plastic fascia is used which will not support clout nails, EPS may be fixed to a batten behind the fascia.

Multivap 300 breather underlay provides outstanding protection against wind-driven rain and water infiltration. Yet its vapour permeable surface allows moisture vapour to escape, helping to keep interiors condensation free.
CONDENSATION
With modern standards of insulation it is necessary to dispel the accumulation of moisture vapour in occupied buildings. In principle, ventilation dispels moisture and stops condensation forming. The first line of defence is a vapour control layer on the warm side of the insulation. However water vapour can occur and must be dealt with. Multivap 300 with its high vapour permeability
Multivap 300
DESIGN & PERFORMANCE
allows vapour to pass freely through to evaporate in the atmosphere.
INSTALLATION ON PARTIALLY SUPPORTED COLD ROOFS
Multivap 300 should be draped over the rafters to allow any water ingress through tiles to drain down to the gutter. Overlaps must be provided with the minimum dimensions given in the following table.
A prefabricated gutter drip must be used with Multivap – Ubbink Eaves Protection System – see page 20, or Over Fascia Ventilation System – see page 15, are suitable.
For sealing overlaps or junctions with adjoining materials, use Ubiflex Tack Sealant.

The weathering membrane provides a water tight method of passing pipes of 100 or 110mm through the roofing felt. The membrane, made from flexible PVC, is pushed over the pipe and turned up to provide a water tight seal to the pipe. The upper end of the membrane is dressed up the roof and under the next felt lap to prevent any leakage of water running down the felt.

The felt sleeve and adaptor are used with Ubivent Roof Ventilation Tiles models UB5 and UB19. They allow the on-site conversion of these vents to service terminals.
The felt sleeve click-fits in place into the underside of the Ubivent. The stepped adaptor is cut off at the required diameter and then pushed onto the sleeve. It provides a choice of 100mm, 110mm, 125mm, 150mm and 160mm diameter connections. The joint between the felt sleeve and adaptor should be sealed with PVC solvent weld.
