Introduction

You can add ICD-10-CM codes to Dentrix Enterprise and cross code them for medical claims. You can also attach ICD-10-CM codes as diagnoses to a procedure.

Adding ICD-10-CM Codes

You can add ICD-10-CM codes to Dentrix Enterprise.

To add an ICD-10 code

1. In the Office Manager, from the Maintenance menu, point to Practice Setup, and then click

Cross-Coding and Medical Code Setup.

The Medical/Cross Code Setup dialog box appears.

2. Under Code Types, select ICD-10-CM. The options for adding codes become available.

Cross Coding AMA-CPT Codes with

ICD-10-CM Codes

You can cross code AMA-CPT codes with ICD-10-CM codes for medical claims

To cross code

1. In the Office Manager, from the Maintenance menu, point to Practice Setup, and then click

Cross-Coding and Medical Code Setup.

The Medical/Cross Code Setup dialog box appears.

2. Select the Cross Code Setup tab.

3. From the Cross code for list, select AMA-CPT.

4. From the Link to list, select ICD-10-CM.

All the options for cross coding AMA-CPT codes with ICD-10-CM codes are now available.

5. From the AMA-CPT codes list box (on the left), select the AMA-CPT code that you want to cross code.

6. From the ICD-10-CM codes list box (on the right), select the diagnostic codes that you want to cross code with the selected AMA-CPT code. To select multiple diagnostic codes, while holding down the Ctrl key, click the desired diagnostic codes.

7. Click Attach Code(s).

Cross Coding ADA-CDT Codes with

ICD-10-CM Codes

You can cross code ADA-CDT codes with ICD-10-CM codes.

To cross code

1. In the Office Manager, from the Maintenance menu, point to Practice Setup, and then click

Cross-Coding and Medical Code Setup.

The Medical/Cross Code Setup dialog box appears.

2. Select the Cross Code Setup tab.

3. From the Cross code for list, select CDT.

4. From the Link to list, select ICD-10-CM.

All the options for cross coding ADA-CDT codes with diagnostic codes are now available.

5. From the CDT codes list boxes (on the left), select a category to view the corresponding procedure codes, and then select the ADA-CDT code that you want to cross code.

6. From the diagnostic codes list boxes (on the right), select the diagnostic code that you want to attach to the selected ADA-CDT code. Also, if you want to have a diagnostic code be attached automatically to the selected ADA-CDT code when that ADA code is posted, select the check box of that diagnostic code.

Note: To select multiple diagnostic codes in the selected category, while holding down the Ctrl key, click the desired diagnostic codes or the check boxes of those diagnostic codes.

7. Click Attach Code(s).

Assigning Diagnostic Coding Systems

to Dental Insurance Plans

You can specify which diganostic coding system should be used on claims that are sent to a given dental insurance plan.

To assign a diagnostic coding system

1. With a patient selected in the Family File, double-click the Insurance Information block. The Insurance Information dialog box appears.

2. From the Coverage Order list, select the type of coverage.

3. Click Insurance Data.

to Medical Insurance Plans

You can specify which diganostic coding system should be used on claims that are sent to a given medical insurance plan.

To assign a diagnostic coding system

1. With a patient selected in the Family File, double-click the Insurance Information block. The Insurance Information dialog box appears.

2. Click the Medical Insurance tab.

3. From the Coverage Order list, select the type of coverage.

4. Click Insurance Data.

Cross Coding Procedures with

ICD-10-CM Codes

You can cross code procedures with ICD-10 codes for medical claims.

To cross code a procedure

1. In the Ledger, with a patient selected, double-click a procedure that is to be billed to medical insurance. The Edit or Delete Procedure dialog box appears.

2. Under Medical Cross Coding, type the desired AMA code in the AMA CPT field, or click the search button to select the appropriate procedure.

3. Click the Diagnostic Codes search button .

4. Add ICD-10-CM codes:

a. Select ICD 10 to view the diagnostic codes that have been cross coded with the procedure. You can also type all or part of a code or description in the Search field to further filter the list to include only the codes that match what you have entered.

Note: If the ICD-10-CM diagnostic code that you are looking for is not listed, it has not been properly linked to the AMA code properly. Select List all codes to select the code from a list of all the ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes.

b. Select the ICD-10-CM codes that you want to add (to select multiple codes that are not adjacent to each other, hold down the Ctrl key, and then click each code; or to select a range of adjacent codes, hold down the Shift key, and then click the first and last code in the range).

c. Click Add to move the codes to the ICD-10-CM Codes Applied list box. You can attach up to four 10-CM codes to any given procedure. The Add button is available only if the number of ICD-10-CM codes that you have selected (in the left list box) and the number of ICD-ICD-10-CM codes that are already attached to the procedure (in the ICD-10-CM Codes Applied list box) is less than or equal to four.

Attaching ICD-10-CM Codes as

Diagnoses to Procedures

You can attach ICD-10-CM codes as diagnoses to a procedure.

To attach diagnoses codes

1. With a patient selected in the Patient Chart, from the Progress Notes panel, double-click the treatment item you want to change.

The Edit or Delete Procedure dialog box appears.

2. Click the Diagnoses search button .

3. To add ICD-10-CM codes, do the following:

a. Select ICD 10 to view the diagnostic codes that have been cross coded with the procedure. You can also type all or part of a code or description in the Search field to further filter the list to include only the codes that match what you have entered.

Note: If the ICD-10-CM diagnostic code that you are looking for is not listed, select List all codes to select the code from a list of all the ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes.

b. Select the ICD-10-CM codes that you want to add (to select multiple codes that are not adjacent to each other, hold down the Ctrl key, and then click each code; or to select a range of adjacent codes, hold down the Shift key, and then click the first and last code in the range).

c. Click Add to move the codes to the ICD-10-CM Codes Applied list box. You can attach up to four 10-CM codes to any given procedure. The Add button is available only if the number of ICD-10-CM codes that you have selected (in the left list box) and the number of ICD-ICD-10-CM codes that are already attached to the procedure (in the ICD-10-CM Codes Applied list box) is less than or equal to four and if the number of ICD-10-CM codes that you have selected (in the left list box) and the total number of codes that are already attached to the procedure (the combined total from the

ICD-10 Codes Applied, ICD-9 Codes Applied, and Other Dental Diagnostic Codes Applied list boxes) is less than or equal to eight.

4. Click OK.
