Dear Incoming Freshman and Parents/Guardians:

We want to welcome you to Minooka Community High School and provide you with some important dates that will help to make your transition into high school a positive, collaborative experience. Please take a moment to read and note the following important information and dates.

Incoming Freshman Night – South Campus

Incoming Freshman Night is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of this evening is for parents/guardians to receive EXPLORE test results, information regarding the honors program, detailed information of the registration/course selection process, as well as a brief overview of block scheduling, and MCHS graduation require- ments. This evening will also provide opportunity to explore some of the extra-curricular activities MCHS has to offer.

MCHS Honors Program Informational Meeting – South Campus

An informational meeting detailing the MCHS honors program is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, 2016, from 8:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the main gymnasium. This will be a formal presentation. This presentation will overview the honors program and its requirements for students. Information will also be provided regarding honors registration, registration for Math and Science placement tests, and expectations for the essay/writing requirements for English and Social Studies applications. The Instructional Leaders will be available before and after the honors presentation to answer student and parent questions.

If you are registering for Advanced Algebra I, Geometry, Geometry Honors or Chemistry Honors, you must take a mandatory skills test. Students will be able to register for the mandatory skills test online at www.mchs.net and select the “Incoming Freshman Info” link starting January 14, 2016 and closing January 25, 2016. We will not be able to accept walk-ins on the testing days. The math and/or science skills tests will take place at Minooka Community High School – Central Campus on January 29 & January 30, 2016.

Course Selection/Residency Process

Counselors from the MCHS Student Services Department will be visiting all sender schools in January for incoming freshman registration. During this process, the counselors meet with all of the 8th graders to discuss course selections and distribute our Curriculum Guide. Students and parents/guardians will be required to complete the entire course selection/residency packet, which includes the following forms:

Freshman Course Selection Sheet – (courses must also be entered into Class Choice on-line)

• Student Registration Instruction sheet (to be completed on-line)

• Residency Information Instruction sheet (to be completed on-line)

• State of Illinois Cert. of Child Health Examination Form

• Parental Release of Records (if applicable)

• Curriculum Guide

Parents/Guardians will also be required to provide a County Clerk certified copy of their child’s birth certificate, as well as provide two proofs of residency to accompany the completed registration forms.

Please note the following dates and look for the course selection/residency material to come home with your child.

Course Selection/Residency Packet Drop-Off Dates:

January 11, 2016 - Channahon Junior High School 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.

January 11, 2016 - Troy Middle School 1:00 – 2:20 p.m.

January 12, 2016 – Minooka Junior High School 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.

Completed Course Selection/Residency Packet Pick-Up Dates:

The MCHS counselors will return to the school to collect the completed Course Selection/Residency Packets from the students. Please note: parents/guardians must complete the residency process, and students must enter their course selections into Class Choice before the packet is collected.

January 21, 2016 - Channahon Junior High School 8:00 – 10:30 a.m..

January 20, 2016 - Minooka Junior High School 7:45 – 12:00 p.m.

January 22, 2016 - Minooka Junior High School 7:45 – 12:00 p.m.

January 21, 2016 - Troy Middle School 1:20 – 2:20 p.m.

Healthcare provider’s appointment schedules often fill up quickly. Physicals must be turned in on or before the July Registration day to receive a schedule.
