Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

ABOUT THE JOB SUMMARY

The business intelligence analyst (BIA) will assist CCO and data consumers in making informed business decisions in order to sustain or improve CCO. The BIA exploits the data warehouse to mine for important facts and statistics that may help render a true picture of the CCO

performance and industry standing. The BIA may also develop processes and design reports to boost the business intelligence of the CCO.

The BIA will collect past and present data to establish trends in the CCO operation. The data shall be analyzed and used with statistical tools to develop a projection on the outcome of implementing certain business strategies based on historical data. The BIA skills are likely to be used in discovering the CCO strengths and weaknesses as well as the threats and opportunities surrounding the business.

The position provides data consumers key information and key organizational tactical/strategic information through the effective implementation of data initiatives. The initiatives include business intelligence reporting solutions, data profiling, data mining, data analysis, and promoting data aware culture throughout the CCO. Position also contributes to the evolving effort in defining information requirements of the CCO.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires sitting for long periods of time. Some bending, lifting, stooping and stretching

required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate office equipment such as computer keyboard, photocopier, telephone and calculator.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment. May require evening and/or weekend work. Working under stress. Travel required.

HOURS

This is an exempt position. Occasional work hours that may extend before and after normal business hours may be required to fulfill business needs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Primary Responsibilities

• Disseminate information regarding tools, reports, or metadata available to data consumers.

• Conduct or coordinate tests to ensure that intelligence is consistent with defined needs. • Identify and monitor current and potential data consumers, using business intelligence

tools.

• Synthesize current business intelligence or trend data to support recommendations for action.

• Maintain or update business intelligence tools, databases, dashboards, systems, or methods.

• Manage timely flow of business intelligence information to users.

• Identify and analyze industry or trends with business strategy implications. • Analyzes requirements on all Business Intelligence related projects.

• Leads and performs complex analysis in an evolving data environment.

• Extracts and analyzes data, patterns, and related trends as needed, with the subsequent ability to synthesize the data into information consumable by organization.

• Provides data extractions, reports, analysis and consultation services across organization.

• Designs, and rolls out Business Intelligence solutions to end users.

• Ensures high levels of Business Intelligence availability through support functions and in-depth testing.

• Provide technical support for existing reports, dashboards, or other tools.

• Maintain library of model documents, templates, or other reusable knowledge assets. • Create or review technical design documentation to ensure the accurate development

of reporting solutions.

• Communicate with customers, competitors, suppliers, professional organizations, or others to stay abreast of industry or business trends.

• Document specifications for business intelligence or information technology (IT) reports, dashboards, or other outputs.

• Create business intelligence tools or systems, including design of related databases, spreadsheets, or outputs.

• Collect business intelligence data from available industry reports, public information, field reports, or purchased sources.

• Analyze technology trends to identify markets for future product development or to improve sales of existing products.

• Analyze competitive market strategies through analysis of related product, market, or share trends.

• Generate standard or custom reports summarizing business, financial, or economic data for review by executives, managers, clients, and other stakeholders.

• Create and maintain BI Policy and Procedures for CCO including Encounter Data validation and submission.

• Works collaboratively and professionally with data consumers, staff, delegates and partners.

• Other duties as assigned within the scope of skillset. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Management or equivalent. • At least 5 years of related work experience in Business Intelligence (analytics, enterprise

reporting, BI solutions).

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

• Proven customer service skills and the ability to work in a team oriented environment. • Proven technical skills as pertains to Business Intelligence, Business Analytics, Data

Warehousing, Data Mining, and similar disciplines.

• Proven technical skills in database design, database construction and data transformation for analytics purposes.

• Proven skills in business process analysis and data analysis. • Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Experience in leading BI project team, overseeing project progress, and mentoring junior staff members.

• Ability to prioritize in a multi-project environment.3 years information systems

experience supporting mission-critical decision support/business intelligence systems. • Expertise in SQL Queries.

• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server. • Expertise in Microsoft Excel.

• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 skills with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Business Intelligence architecture and deployment solutions.

• Knowledge of medical setting, including knowledge of relative value units (RVUs), CPT and ICD-10 codes, fee schedules, payer capitation contracts, and physician

compensation models.

• Development, implementation, and performance management of data warehouse, marts, cubes and reporting tools (e.g. MS SQL Server BIDS, SSMS, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in BI project sizing, planning, and management. Experience as Business Analyst in analytics projects.

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or Systems Analysis. Project management experience.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge, skills and abilities

Expert in the development of key reporting needs for the CCO and partners using CCO tools. Knowledge of organization policies, procedures, systems and objectives. Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements. Expert knowledge of computer systems and applications. Knowledge and experience in health care delivery systems. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet critical timelines.

Skill in planning, organizing and prioritizing. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, decision-making. Skill in identifying and resolving problems. Ability to anticipate and react calmly in high demand situations. Skill in developing and maintaining effective

relationships with staff, stakeholders, partners and the public. Skill in developing and

maintaining comprehensive reports. Ability to analyze and interpret complex data. Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION

Four (4) year degree in Health Informatics, Health Information Management or Five (5) years of experience in a public or private health system which included responsibility for each of the following:

Expert knowledge of MS Access, MS SQL Server, Visual Studio and Business Objects required.

6 years advanced data analysis experience.

Advanced experience working with SQL Server creating reports, dashboards and graphs Bachelors in computer science or equivalent experience required

Some project management experience preferred

Must either have a background in healthcare (managed care or hospital) OR Micro strategy
