STEWARDSHIP

In today’s Gospel, Jesus had planned to slip away from the crowds for a few moments of peace and a li le rest. When He saw the people gathered, how-ever, He put His needs aside to meet the needs of others. Some mes, as good stewards, we are called to do the same.

Where in the Scriptures can we find the concept of synodality?

The story of the two disciples on the road to Em-maus is a good Scriptural example of how Jesus sought to listen to others as he walked with them. In the story, Jesus asks them to tell him their story which reveals some misunderstandings about him. Then, Jesus accompanies them to dinner, breaking open the Word of God with them and revealing himself in the breaking of the bread. This is how these disciples understood that Jesus was accompa-nying them on “their way.” (Lk 24:13-35)

HURRICANE PRAYER

God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all crea on, we humbly stand before you as your children and ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us.

Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy.

You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm and safety.

Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only refuge.

In Our Parish...

THE DAYS ARE COMING

Separa on, isola on, and hos lity are terrible things. We are, sadly, too familiar with all of them in our mod-ern life, whether we look at world events or events in our own neighborhoods and families. All three readings today refer to these same sad human condi ons.

The prophet Jeremiah describes world condi ons as if the people of his me were sheep who had been sca ered by poor leadership and corrupt shepherds. But “the days are coming,” he assures us (Jeremiah 23:5), when a new shepherd, a just king, will come. We meet that king in the second reading and the Gospel. Paul re-minds us in the Le er to the Ephesians that all divisions can now cease in Christ Jesus, who has brought us to-gether through his blood. In Mark’s Gospel we see Jesus himself, looking with pity on those searching for him as if they were sheep without a shepherd.

FORMED

Pick of the Week Don't Impose Your Morality on Me!

What is "right" and "wrong"? Is what's right for you right for me? These are difficult ques ons to discuss in our culture. We live in a society that supports the opinion that each person should make up his or her own morality—that there is no moral truth that ap-plies to everyone. So, how do we talk about right and wrong in this world? In this series, Dr. Ted Sri explores the fragility of a rela vist outlook and the importance of absolute truth.

Gather Us In

1. Here in this place new light is streaming, Now is the

darkness vanished away, See in this space our fears and our dreamings, Brought here to you in the light of this day. Gather us in' the lost and forsaken, Gather us in' the blind and the lame; Call to us now, and we shall awaken, We shall arise at the sound of our name.

2. We are the young' our lives are a myst'ry, We are the

old' who yearn for your face, We have been sung throughout all of hist'ry, Called to be light to the whole human race. Gather us in' the rich and the haughty, Gath-er us in' the proud and the strong; Give us a heart so meek and so lowly, Give us the courage to enter the song.

Text: Marty Haugen, b.1950, © 1982, GIA Publications, Inc. I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

1. I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest;

Lay down, O weary one, lay down Your head upon my breast." I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn, and sad; I found in him a res ng place, and he has made me glad.

2. I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Behold, I freely give The

living water; thirsty one, stoop down, and drink, and live." I came to Jesus, and I drank of that lifegiving stream; My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.

Text: Horatius Bonar, 1808-1889 All Who Hunger

1. All who hunger, gather gladly; Holy manna is our

bread. Come from wilderness and wand'ring. Here, in truth, we will be fed. You that yearn for days of fullness, All around us is our food.

Refrain: Taste and see the grace eternal. Taste and see

that God is good. Taste and see the grace eternal. Taste and see that God is good.

2. All who hunger, never strangers, seeker, be a welcome

guest. Come from restlessness and roaming.

Here, in joy, we keep the feast. We that once were lost and sca ered in communion's love have stood.

3. All who hunger, sing together; Jesus Christ is living

bread. Come from loneliness and longing. Here, in peace, we have been led. Blest are those who from this table. Live their days in gra tude.

Let There Be Peace on Earth

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me. Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be. With God as our Father, brothers all are we. Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now. With ev'ry step I take, let this be my solemn vow; To take each moment, and live each moment in peace eternally! Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
