ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH
“Seeking Jesus, Serving Jesus, Sharing Jesus”
CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY
SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2021 CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY OR
THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST Institution of the Eucharist, Mk 14
Why did Jesus offer himself as "food and drink" to his disciples at his final meal on earth? And why did he do so at Passover? Jesus drew a parallel between the Passover in Exodus and his own anticipated
Passover from life to death to resurrected life. He was say-ing that he was the new and eternal Passover and he changed the Passover meal into a Eucharistic meal.
In this meal, Jesus identified the bread as his body and the cup as his blood. He commanded his disciples to eat his flesh and drink his blood. In doing so, He estab-lished the Eucharist as a "remembrance" of his atoning death, resurrection and promise to return again. His death on the cross, the gift of his body and blood, and his promise to come again to his disciples are inseparably linked.
And what exactly can we expect to receive when we consume the body and blood of Jesus? Healing, pardon, comfort and rest for our souls. This food is for healing our body and soul. It is strength for our journey heavenward. It is our connection to intimate union with Jesus, who invites us to take his life into the very center of our being. The life which he offers is the very life of God himself.
Hopefully, we experience great joy in the Eucharis-tic feast. Jesus’ body and blood will strengthen us in chari-ty, enable us to break disordered attachments, and be more firmly rooted in his love. Do you hunger for the "bread of life"?
Lord Jesus, you nourish and sustain us with your very own presence and life. You are the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation. May we always hunger for you and be satisfied in you alone.
PASTOR’S CORNER
The SEARCH is ON: June 13, July 18 and August 8 A number of neighboring Catholic Churches have hosted the Anglican Church’s “Alpha” Evangelization Course. The course is presented over 11 nights and each night fol-lows the same format: a meal, a video about faith, small table discussion, large group sharing, and prayer. The Al-pha Course has reconnected tons of people to Jesus and the Christian faith. It is an easy course to recommend. There is another outstanding Evangelization Course – pro-duced by Catholics – which emphasizes the Catholic under-standing of Jesus and the sacramental life of the Church: “The Search” Series by the Augustine Institute of Denver, Colorado. “The Search,” with its state-of-the-art visuals and technology, examines why humans believe in God, the meaning of existence, the supposed “conflict” between faith and science, the Bible, Sacred Tradition, Salvation, the Church and the Sacraments.
We began “The Search” at St. Francis last Fall using the same format as “Alpha”: a meal, a video, small table dis-cussion, large group sharing, and prayer. The positive re-sponse has been unbelievable. To date, 120 SFX parishion-ers, young and old, have seen all 7 episodes of “The
Search,” and 60 others have seen 2 or more episodes. Some people are intrigued by all the buzz but have said that a Course on Wednesday evenings is a deal-breaker. Why, they ask, don’t you show this Course on SUNDAY, THE LORD’S DAY – outside of Football Season!?!

Prayer for Year of Eucharist and St. Joseph
Heavenly Father, as we celebrate the Year of the Eucharist and St. Joseph, may we grow in appreciation and desire for the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, and may we imitate the faithfulness, prayerfulness and charity of St. Joseph in our lives. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God forever. Amen.
