SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Performance Management 10.0 –
A BI perspective
SOLUTION TODAY
Multidimensional
Designed for the
Office of Finance
Accessing the
Business Layer
Data access must be through the application tier – security, business rules and data signage are applied by the application
Custom data providers are included to enable business layer access within the SAP BusinessObjects BI clients
The EPM applications include some BI out-of-the-box BI capabilities,
however these are primarily geared for the Office of Finance.
EPM data is presented in a hierarchical fashion.
SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 provides many BI clients that support
multidimensional data access
Value proposition
The value of EPM and BI
When you will want to use a BI tool on top of EPM:
• Enabling users to combine multiple data sources in a single tool
• Sharing financial data to employees outside of Finance
• Providing users with the “best tool for the job” for consuming EPM data (e.g.
Dashboards, Advanced Analytics, Mobile, etc.)
• Generating archived reports of financial data
• Adding value to existing investments in the SAP BusinessObjects BI suite of
tools
• Empowering mobile and cloud-based users to have direct access to EPM data
in a safe and secure fashion

SAP Business Intelligence portfolio
SAP BusinessObjects BI platform integration –
Reporting and Analysis (WebI and CR)
Why EPM Customers should use
SAP BusinessObjects Reporting
and Analysis Tools?
Provides an easy mechanism to create highly formatted reports (e.g. Balance Sheets, Income Statements) that can be shared across the Enterprise
The BI clients use a custom connection type for EPM to ensure EPM security and data structure is maintained
Full support of the OLAP hierarchies within the Information Design tool.
Support for BI Mobile Deployments
Semantic Layer– empower business users with self-service reporting and analysis

SAP BusinessObjects BI platform integration –
Dashboards
Why EPM Customers should use
SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards?
Dashboards provides the ability to create highly-interactive, visually-stimulating dashboards
Use existing EPM Excel reports to simplify dashboard design against EPM data
An custom connector (EPM Connector) enables live data access to EPM applications The EPM Connector supports simulation and write-back to SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation (ex. form-based planning such as inputting headcount information)
SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards– Interactive, visualizations

SAP BusinessObjects BI platform integration –
Analysis for OLAP
Why EPM Customers should use
SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for
OLAP?
Web-based Ad-Hoc analysis tool designed for Power Users and Analysts
Analysis for OLAP uses a custom connection for EPM to ensure EPM security and data structure is maintained
Standard workspace design support including connecting to multiple data sources (ex. SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation and SAP BusinessObjects Profitability and Cost
Management) and slicing and dicing capabilities
SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for OLAP – data analysis (“slice and dice”)
SAP BusinessObjects BI platform integration –
Analysis for Office
Why EPM Customers should use SAP
BusinessObjects Analysis for Office?
Excel-based analysis; Successor of BEx Analyzer BPC provides its OWN Excel Interface (EPM Add-In) that provides write-back support that is NOT available with Analysis for Office – so customers will need to use the BPC Excel client regardless to input data to BPC
Analysis for Office only supports BPC 10+ for
Netweaver; It will not support other EPM solutions Analysis for Office and the EPM Add-In can be installed in the same Excel environment.

SAP BusinessObjects BI platform integration –
Predictive Analytics
Predictive Analytics and EPM
Predictive Analytics can be used to run algorithms against EPM data using the
Semantic Layer connection. This will allow end users to identify outliers, perform
set analysis, and predict forecasted values.
The result of the Predictive Analytics can then be used within the EPM
applications (e.g. to seed BPC plans). Today this is a manual process however
future roadmap enhancements are exploring ways to automate this process.

SAP BusinessObjects BI platform integration –
Explorer and Visual Intelligence
Explorer and Visual Intelligence and EPM
By default Explorer does not support OLAP data, which includes EPM data,
however at this time Explorer can be enabled to work with EPM 7.5 and EPM 10
solutions using the classic Universe (UNV) connection.
Building Explorer on top of EPM data provides the user a rich interface to easily
navigate the data and answer a multitude of questions at the speed of thought.
This interface is also supported on mobile devices as well.
Unfortunately at this time Visual Intelligence does NOT work with any OLAP data
sources and should not be recommended as a tool on top of EPM data.
Mobile performance management
Leverage our mobility solutions, including SAP BusinessObjects Mobile and Sybase Unwired Platform
Deliver a new ‘EPM Unwired’ mobile client as entry point into EPM 10 applications:
