Assistant Director Saddle

Happy October Everyone !

We have arrived at the time of the year when we start preparing already for next

year! YIKES !

It’s almost 2021 and I would just like to encourage you to think about holding a

position with our Chapter. We will be accepting applications for ALL positions as

we do every year, so if you would like to get involved please reach out to the

current officer for more details!

All of our emails are listed on the front page of each newsletter.

You can reach out anytime if you would like to be an Ambassadors or a Road

Captain, these positions are constantly changing and rotating so we accept them

all year long.

We are also going to start planning for day rides and overnight trips for 2021 – so

please email me any suggestions you have – especially if you have visited a

restaurant or location that you would like to share.

It does seem like we will need to cancel the Annual Christmas Party due to the

restrictions on groups more than 50. We are looking at adding an overnight trip

down to Lake Havasu for the Annual Christmas Boat parade that appears to still

be on the schedule of events for the city. Keep you eyes open for all the updates.

October is usually one of the best months to ride, so come out and join us when

you can. Remember that for every chapter ride you will receive a “Ride Ticket” in

the monthly drawing for Harley Davidson gift cards. We appreciate everyone

that comes out to ride ! We have continued to give these away and we thank the

Dealerships for their support in providing the prizes.

Ride Safe – Stay Strong – Be Healthy

Road Captain Article

Cold Weather Riding

Here we are, another year of great riding where we are able to hang out with friends, socialize distance and of course the well needed wind therapy!

For some of you that don't know me I am Ron Peterson sometimes known as “Captain Ron”. I have not been able to be on the rides for a couple of months as I tore my bicep and had to have it repaired. I look forward to getting back on the bike as soon as possible, although I am sure that all the Road Captains are keeping the rides safe and fun.

So far we have had good riding weather, and have enjoyed some mild temperatures. As we all know weather is unpredictable and is always changing. Are you prepared as the weather will change soon? Time to start looking forward.

One way to brave the cold is to have heated gear, this can include gloves, jacket, if you are lucky you might have heated hand grips and heated seats. All of this gear is great, but some of us do not have these items. For those who do not have heated gear don't worry there are options to still ride comfortably.

Layer, layer, layer, if you plan ahead you can pack many items into your compartments that can be put on or taken off as weather changes, just remember if you take it off you need room to pack it. Gloves, liners, chaps, long underwear, thicker socks, neck scarfs. Remember the more you put on you can be restricted from movement and hand controls, so it’s a good idea to try your equipment on and test it before heading out. If you have the room it is better to have a bit extra that you can take off, or loan to a friend who did not plan.

Another way to prepare for cold weather is to pack your rain gear. Even if rain is not in the forecast rain gear can be useful. Rain gear can be used for wind protection and will keep your core temperature up.

Always remember that no matter what gear you might have, if you do not prepare your bike you could have problems. Check your fluids, your tire pressure and tread. Have regular bike

maintenance. Keep in mind that it takes several miles for your tires to heat up for proper traction. If you do not keep up on the maintenance of your bike it will be very chilly waiting on the side of the road. If for some reason you should find yourself waiting on the side of the road of course with a cheerful Road Captain with you, we will all be reassured that you will be taken care of because you signed up for Road America, right?.

We should all know by now how important it is to have Road America1 866 209-8720, emergency road side assistance.

In conclusion as we enjoy the ride lets be prepared for all weather conditions, know that your road captains are looking out for the safety of the group but it is your responsibility as a rider to prepare and ride your own ride!!

Captain Ron
