WHAT IS AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST?

Occupational therapists use goal-specific, personally-meaningful activities to promote and restore physical and mental health of people of all ages. The word “occupation” refers to the daily activities that “occupy” an individual’s time, including self-care, work, and leisure. Occupational therapists provide their clients with creative and adaptive skills in order to facilitate life roles and adapt to environmental challenges with dignity. Occupational therapists are vital members of the health care team who collaborate with the client as well as a broad range of professionals, paraprofessionals, community resources, entities and client family members.
