Calendar of Events
DEAR PADRE
I read this is the liturgical year of Mark, that next year will be the year of Matthew, and the following year, Luke. Then it starts over with Mark again. Why doesn’t John have a year?
The purpose in a three-year cycle of readings at Mass was primarily a pastoral one. “The treasures of the Bible are to be opened up more lavishly, so that richer fare may be provided for the faithful at the table of God’s word. In this way a more representative portion of the holy Scriptures will be read to the people in the course of a prescribed number of years” (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy [Sacrosanctum Concilium], 51).
All of Scripture is the word of God, but “Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel” (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, - 29).
Moreover, Christ reveals himself to us from four different Gospel perspectives. For some people, John’s version—often deeply symbolic and theological—can be pastorally challenging.
The semicontinuous reading of the three synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) “provides a presentation of each Gospel’s distinctive doctrine as well as a development of the Lord’s life and preaching” (Lectionary for Mass, 1970; 16,1). Nevertheless, John’s Gospel appears in all three cycles. For example, !ive readings from chapter six on the bread of life are inserted in Year B, when Mark’s short Gospel is proclaimed. John’s Gospel is also read during Easter and scattered throughout the seasons of Advent, Christmas, and Lent.

CHOOSE LIFE
Pro-choice is a play on words that has cost 64,000,000 lives
in America since 1973 through surgical abortion. Pro-choice is no choice for the pre-born, it’s always death to the baby.
Pray for all life, especially the elderly and the unborn.
Words From Pope Francis

There is no other way.

Mass Intentions for the Week
Stewardship By the Book:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus had planned to slip away from the crowds for a few moments of peace and a little rest. When He saw the people gathered, however, He put His needs aside to meet the needs of others. Some- times, as good stewards, we are called to do the same.

(Mk 6:30-34)
A VOCATION VIEW: “I will appoint shepherds for my

Marriage and Coffee
Shortly after tying the knot, a young
married couple started arguing over who should make the coffee. Being a good christian woman, the wife went to the scriptures for her answer. She said that the Bible speci!ically stated that men should be the ones to make the coffee.
Puzzled, the husband asked her where in the Bible it
said that. Very con!idently, the wife opened up her Bi-
ble and said, “It’s right here — HEBREWS.”

MISSION STATEMENT
We, the parishioners of St. Mary Queen of Peace, as children of God, are committed to providing an inviting and friendly atmosphere for religious worship, with our goal to offer salvation to all through Jesus Christ.
Our church provides digni!ied and reverent liturgies; a place where we, as individuals, in a Christian community, can grow spiritually, educationally, and socially. By helping and comforting all those in need, we share our God-given gifts within our church, community, and the world.
St. Mary Queen of Peace Parish is a place of loving fellowship within the family of God. We carry into the world the witness, message, and example of the gospel, prayerfully ful!illing our mission.
(Approved by the Parish Pastoral Council, April 17, 1997)
Reconciliation
Confessions are heard on Saturday beginning at 3:00 p.m., or anytime by appointment.
Baptism
Parent(s) must be registered and active members of the parish for at least six months and are expected to attend one session with the pastor on the meaning of Baptism prior to the celebration of the Sacrament. Godparents (one man and one woman), if not from the parish, must have a letter from their pastor stating that they are practicing Catholics and able to serve as sponsor. It is encouraged that both Godparents be Catholic, but one may be a non- Catholic and serve as a Christian witness.
Marriage
The Catholic Church maintains the teaching of Jesus Christ, that marriage is a permanent and unconditional commitment between one man and one woman.
For a marriage to take place at Queen of Peace, one or both parties (or their parents) must be registered active members for at least 6 months before beginning marriage preparation. Registration in the parish for the sole purpose of being married here is not permitted. Once preparation begins, no date will be set until the initial information is gathered by the pastor. The Diocese requires 6 months prior to the wedding to ensure adequate time to prepare properly for the Sacrament. There are options for preparation, but some sort of preparation is required. Call the Parish Office to make the arrangements with the pastor. Saturdays are the usual day for weddings.
Times for weddings: For a Wedding Mass, no later than noon. For the Liturgy of the Word, no later than 12:30 p.m.
Parish Family Membership
We welcome you to the Catholic Christian Community of St. Mary Queen of Peace. Please contact the parish of!ice to register at the earliest opportunity.
