Dr. Zhilin Yang, Department of Marketing

Each academic year, I received a lot of positive feedback through various channels, such as emails, notes, oral compliments, cards, phone, and so on. They not only show students’

appreciation of my teaching but also made me very happy.

Limited by space, I hereby provide only some of positive feedback from my students for my teaching in the Semester A, 2010-2011. I highlight some students’ comments relevant to my course.

Hi Forrest,

I am much appreciated to attend your class and have a great time with you last few months.

Frankly speaking, I learn so much in your class. I think what the most valuable I get from your course is your mindset, logic and attitude. Actually, I can find any marketing

knowledge and information simply clicking on internet. But I can't do that on learning the mindset, logic and attitude. That's why I take a master degree for my further improvement.

Remember you gave me a paper for writing down my details, background and photo.

Apart from my information, i wrote "help me grow " to you. Now, i found this objective is being fulfilled and you really help me on develop my marketing mindset, thinking logic, and attitude. Thank you and I hope you will have a wonderful life.

P.S. Attached please find the team evaluation form for reference.

How about your trip? Is it wonderful? Some of us (Grace, Tony, Naomi and me) want to nominate you for "Teaching Excellence Awards" and we have completed the form and it cannot submit without your signature. Because the nomination deadline is 29 October and I want to make an appointment with professor today or tomorrow afternoon. Is that available for you?

Morning Dr. Yang,

Time is gone so fast...I feel happy that I almost finished one course for my Master Degree since for me it's very difficult to pick up the studying again as I left CityU for 8 years already~ But at the same time, I really can learn a lot that cannot be obtained from my work!

Every time I treasure the moment to attend this class. As you said, one of the big problems is the class size is really so large! We cannot always communicate and discuss with you and other colleagues. But I really know this is not your fault! :) And you are so helpful and give us prompt reply when we ask you about case study & business plan.

These 1.5 months are very fruitful as it's really a very intensive course~ But I think it's good since we can remember each topic content and do the project within a concentrated period. And you can give me a concept (or can say re-freshment since MKT was my minor subject when I studied BBA) for further marketing courses. After reading below

information, I discover what we neglect when doing this project! And seems we are not brave enough to decide our own business~ So we may change a create our own business and let you know ASAP~

By the way, thanks again for your teaching and effort! I will send you photos that we taking yesterday night!

Wish you all the best~

Bonnie

Thank you very much for your message! I can't believe that we will finish this interesting course on Monday. You are the first professor I met in CityU and I am so happy that I could study in this class.

Although I studied a comprehensive class (Economic& Business& Law) in Nankai University for four years, I knew little about Marketing. I came here in fear but exciting though. Thanks to your hard work, I started afresh and absolutely fell in love with Marketing. I learned a lot from your class and became a big fan of you! Really!

By the way, we all give you very high marks (all 7! ^^) in teaching evaluation!

Have a great weekend!

It is ok for sharing my experiences to other mainland students. I feel so glad if my experience could do helps for them. I do maintain that only experienced something by myself, I could grow up by every suffering. I could clearly feel that kind of growth with a strong sense of satisfaction.

However, I am not sure that I am the typical one to be a model, haha~ Maybe, I am only a good model of lucky dogs^0^

As you may know, I am not the person who likes speaking and showing up a lot. Moreover, I am not the one likes Sunjing or Peter who is very ambitious, brave and working hard. I just noticed I must have a job to feed myself until September. I’ve even never gone to the university career center to fix my Resume. But once I noticed what I want, I never gave up. I started searching jobs in September. During that month, I experienced lots. The process was suffering but also a good way to growing.

If possible, I’d like to take part in any movement you hold as well. The university is a unforgettable memory, really. Next time, I’d like to have dinner with you, Sunny, Sunjing, Peter…who works in Hong Kong.

How time flies! One subject is already finished. Actually, I felt a little uncomfortable of having one subject twice a week. As a part time student, I do not have enough time to review the PPT and read the materials that you provided to us. When I began to have sense of the subject, it was already over. Ashamed!! Anyway, we still have many subjects to go.

Hope to find some time to meet you and talk more~~

Thanks for giving us a wonderful subject.

From the beginning that we wanted to cover everything of what we have learned in your class, to the end that we just highlighted the important points, we did learn a lot and have a better understanding of what Marketing is. Thank you very much for giving us the precious chance to work with the great group, using the

We've been working on a flawless and satisfatory report for a whole week. Thus, I believe there must still be room for improvement. Hope our project report meets your standards and didn't let you down.

Forgive me to call you Forrest, coz I think it would make us feel like friends.

it is really beneficial to have your class coz it familiarizes me with strong basic knowledge about marketing in a short time, given that i have zero background in marketing. some concepts such as 4Cs,STP,4Ps and so on, are essential for other upcoming courses. after taking your class, i find out that marketing has its own theory and methodology, which makes me feel i really focus on one certain subject. coz my bachelor degree is electronic commerce, it does not have its own theory, i just learn basic knowledge from many different subjects, which made me not professional on some certain subject.

What is more, i do like the marketing jokes you provide to us. they amuse me every time i read them. keep doing this in class, it definitely is a good way to activate the atmosphere in class.

Last, give my best wishes to you and your family, especially your boys,^-^!

Dear Dr. Yang,

Does everything go well with your business trip? Sorry to disturb, I just have some experiences to share with you.

I’m working in banking industry, which is a highly service-oriented job. So, as you talked about managing customer relationship in the last lesson (MKT5610), I had deep feeling.

When not meeting with customers outside, we work in office. Everyday, we need to take up the calls under “3 rings” to show our fast responses to customers. Both complaints and compliments from customers are evaluated for our appraisal of working performance, and we do always have the mind to deal with customers sincerely.

When I reviewed the concept of customer delight as you taught before, I just remember one thing.

When Christmas comes, our department will make the Christmas cards by ourselves to

customers with our photos and name mentioned. We even give our customers hand-made 揮春.

Later, we received positive feedbacks. I think it is what you said “Go beyond satisfaction”. They appreciated what we have done and felt happy, it was out of their expectation.

Moreover, when our customers meet some levels of trade transactions under promotion, we will give them some coupons, it is “Separate the pleasures”. They feel happy when receiving coupons every time.

At last, thank you very much for your teaching. I feel interesting on marketing because it can apply to not just the job, but also to our daily life. I feel happy as Chinese term says “學以致用

". I enjoyed the class meeting and group cohesion when doing project, also your marketing jokes, all are good time to remember.

Hope you every success and keep in touch!
