Abstract

Cashmere-int is aimed at an active participation in standards development in the context of the Semantic Web and their transmission into the academic field. The goals of the

transmission are the promotion of standards and their implementation in new services as well as motivation of other scientists to actively participate in the international

standardization in the field of web technologies.

Promotion of standards is made by means of newsletter publishing, creation of tutorials, and competence centre (Wiki). Participation in question and answer service AskDCMI is planed.

Infrastructure of Cashmere-int includes web server and Wiki collaboration platform, which allow developing of an extendable knowledge base in the area of standardization.

Another effort to promote acceptance of metadata standards is encoding of Dublin Core metadata in example applications like homepage generator MMM.Persons, Thesis Online Broker TheO and Mathematics Metadata Markup MMM. MMM and MMM.Persons tools were extended to allow RDF encoding of Dublin Core metadata.

Cashmere is trying also to transmit requirements of the users for standards and implementation to the international standardization level. This includes our efforts to reactivate the tool group in DCMI.

Math-Net Meta Maker for Persons

• It makes qualified search for information about persons possible.

• It is based upon the international standards in WWW such as Dublin Core Metadata, vCard, RDF, XML.

• The base task this tool performs is to create a

standardized and a valid XHTML, MathML, SVG &

RDF documents.

• MMM.Persons was extended in Cashmere-int to allow encoding of DC Metadata in RDF.

German universities. The system is based on Harvest-NG. The system is originally meant for collecting theses from German universities and summarizing it and storing it in a common format.

• TheO provides a WWW – query able interface. The system is an IWI installation developed and

maintained by the working group of

Scientific/Mathematical information at the department of Mathematics/Computer science of the University of Osnabrück. The gathering process is done
