MEDINA COUNTY CAREGIVERS
~ From the Director ~
We welcome the new year ~ 2018 ~ and it is already proving to be a busy year for Faith in Action.
We continue to expand our network of assistance to seniors. That is why our fundraising efforts are so important. We are coordinating our volunteers to provide their service both in and outside the County. The fact that we continue to build an organization that can and does assist others is what we are all about or trying to achieve.
As Executive Director of Faith in Action, it is my privilege to thank a very small staff of two for their magnificent work. They compliment a volunteer Board of Directors who assist in making this all happen. Too often we fail to recognize the hard work of staff and Board Members. I am aware and very thankful to all of them for all they do. None of this would happen without all of our fantastic volunteers ...YOU ARE THE HEART OF OUR EXISTANCE!
We have much for which to be grateful, especially our growing ability to assist those in need. We are always looking for volunteers, if you would like to help, please call our office at 330-952-0342.

~ OUR NEW EMPOYEE ~
Never fear, Cindie is here! We are so pleased to announce the employment of Cindie Schneider, former Director of the HANDS Foundation.
Cindie is taking on the Public Relations and Marketing Position with the Agency. She is replacing Donna Theis who has been with the Agency since 2014 and is most recognized for her role in making the Dancing with the Medina Stars and the For the Love of Chocolate Festival what they are today. Donna helped create the position and mold it into what it is today. Donna will be sadly missed, her last event was the 2017 Dancing with the Medina Stars. She put a lot of heart and soul into all the good work she did for Faith in Action and we wish her well on this new chapter in her career. In this position, Cindie will work on fundraisers as well as their major gifts program.
Cindie has a deep passion for Medina Counties elderly and disabled population. She as well as the Agencies Executive Director, Deb Poland, have worked a combined total of over 45 years, doing good for this vulnerable population of Medina County. “With the influx of baby boomers into our county population, the work that Faith in Action does is needed now more than ever. People need help from Faith in Action, help where there is no bureaucracy, no red tape - just help, no questions asked. Faith in Action is just concerned with doing what's needed for older adults, I am so happy to be part of this wonderful organization." Schneider said.
Together they will be a passionate team. There are lots of good things happening at Faith in Action. If you or someone you know needs assistance with a ride to a medical appointment, prescription pick-up, grocery shopping, a friendly visit, or would like to volunteer to help, please give Kathy Herte our Program Administrator a call at 330-952-0342.

~Why I volunteer ~
Recently, we asked a married couple, Joy and Dick Amos, who volunteers for us why they volunteer for Faith in Action. Here is what she
shared:
We moved here in 2000 and I was still working until 2004. We lived an hour away from my elderly father, who lived alone. I experienced what it was like to have an aging parent, live a distance away, and work full time. I just was not able to be available to him when he needed help. A wonderful neighbor across the street from him watched over him for me until I retired, and more than once went over late at night to check on him when he did not answer his phone. I so appreciated her help and kindness.
Shortly after my Dad died in 2006, I saw an ad in the paper for Faith in Action. It sounded like a great way to help others the way I had been helped. I started working in the Faith in Action office taking calls and assigning drivers for about 3 1/2 years. I then left that and became a volunteer driver. My husband Dick started by doing heavy jobs, moving and yard work, because his wife "volunteered" him. He quickly saw the need for drivers and soon started volunteering as a driver. We both are still volunteers for Faith in Action.
We've met some interesting people through Faith in Action and developed some close relationships. The care receivers are always so appreciative of the help they get. It has been a truly rewarding experience!
!!!""!!!""!!!""!!!""!!!""!!!"
~ Would you volunteer ? ~
We have a great group of volunteers who give generously the gift of time to provide the needed help our Medina County Elderly and Disabled residents. We are very grateful for our volunteers and all they do. Many times, our volunteers go above and beyond with the help they provide. Some days, their day is longer than the average short trip to the doctors office. If it wasn’t for their generosity and the gift of service they possess, Faith in Action could not operate. They receive a blessing as much as the receiver does. Many of these volunteers have been with Faith in Action for over 15 years. They are a very dedicated group of giving people.
If you would like to become a volunteer please give our office a call at 330-952-0342 or contact us by email: [email protected] . We would love to
have you!

Run now, eat later. More than 900 parcipants of all ages, some dressed in their turkey are, parcipated in our annual Turkey Burner 5K Run/Walk around Hinckley Reservaon on a very chilly Thanksgiving morning.!
!!
We raised over $11,000 in our 8th! Annual event. The dollar amount and the number of runners both set records. For us to have this turnout with the iffy weather, it’s awesome.! It was very excing to see that many people come out to support us.!!
Luke Landis, 20, of Columbus, was the overall winner in!16:32. He defeated Colin Theis, 19, of Medina, who came second at!16:44.! For the women overall we had Claire Nicholas She defeated Claire Nicholas, 14, Wadsworth with a me of!19:17, second place was Nicole Joy, 32 of Eastlake with a me of!!21:07.!!
So many of our parcipant’s think it’s cool to run in the morning and eat in the a<ernoon ... you don’t feel so bad (later).! Plus the refreshments a<er the race are pumpkin rolls, made by the Honey Bee Bakery, and hot chocolate!!!
Many families and parcipants said that they have made the race a holiday tradion.!
With Thanksgiving being a family holiday, we were looking for an acvity that the family can do together. The fact that it will build your appete for dinner is just an added bonus.!
New last year, we opened up race entries to people who wanted to walk.!
We felt like we were missing out on those people who wanted to parcipate in an acvity with their family who did not run. We’re hing another group of people we weren’t before.!!
Before the race, children and their families could parcipate in a turkey scavenger hunt. There are a lot of kids that come with their families to watch the parcipants and we wanted to find something fun for them to do.!! It was an allaround great me!!!!!
Mark your calendars for Thanksgiving Day 2018!
