Selsey FC Chairman’s Welcome

Welcome to the Bunn Leisure Stadium Home of Selsey Football Club

Chairman’s Report

Good afternoon to you all and may I welcome you to the Bunn Leisure Stadium for today’s Southern Combination Football League Division One match versus Midhurst & Easebourne FC. I hope that you all have an enjoyable time with us today. I would also like to extend a special welcome to the match officials for today’s game.

Last Saturday saw us travel to SCFA headquarters at Lancing to faced newly promoted Montpelier Villa. The game was very even throughout, and it was obvious that there was not going to be many goals in the game. Both sides had chances, but it wasn’t until the last few minutes that our hosts broke away and scored the decisive goal to record a 1-0 win. As I said there was not a lot in it, and I felt we were unlucky to lose the game. Whether we did enough to win it, I am not sure, and most prob- ably a draw would have been a fair result.

However, we move on and entertain high flying Midhurst & Easebourne this afternoon. They have a 100% record in the league and have also won their other match, which was the Peter Bentley cup game against Oakwood. So far, they have registered sixteen goals in their four games. This tells me they are very good going forward and we will need to be strong in defence to- day. I am sure Daren will have his team well organised and they will be up to the task. One thing I know, is that most of our fixtures with our visitors are keenly contested affairs, and I am sure today will be no different.

On Tuesday we travel to Wick FC in another SCFL league match with a 7.45pm kick off. We have already played Wick in the Peter Bentley cup at home and, on the night, they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners. They looked a strong and well organised side and I thought they would be one of the early pace-setters in the league. I know they are expecting to have a good season, so I am surprised to see that they only have the one league win to date. However, they are home to Forest Row today and will no doubt look to secure all three points.

Next Saturday sees at home again when we entertain Hailsham Town FC with 3pm kick off.

Please enjoy the game today, enjoy our facilities and let’s hope for a good game and a home win for the Blues.

The Managers Spot - Darren Pearce

Having started the season off reasonably well we travelled to Montpelier Villa FC last Saturday.

Missing a few players due to covid issues and injury we had to change things around, this is a pattern I'm sure we will see hap- pen during the season, until Covid vaccines have been given out to everyone.

The lads gave their all, which on the day wasn't quite enough to come away with at least a draw, it seemed as though neither side had done enough to win the game outright, although in saying that moments in matches change games and in the 20th minute we should have had a penalty, the referee deciding that as Max stayed on his feet (to his credit) no Pen, but we now see this as if Max gone down it would have made certain of the penalty..!!!

With the game heading for a draw Montpelier snatched a scrappy goal in the 87th minute to see us head home with no points in the bag, to add to our 2 wins from 2.

This Saturday will see us entertain high flying Midhurst and Easebourne at home, in a game against an away side having 3 wins from 3, this should see an entertaining game at the Bunn Leisure Stadium.

Information on Todays Visitors

Midhurst & Easebourne F.C. is an English football club based in Midhurst, West Sussex.

The club are currently members of Division Two of the Sussex County League and play at Dods- ley Road.

History

The club was established after World War II by a merger of Midhurst (whose ground had been used to build a school on) and Easebourne (who had lost several officials and players during the war). The merged club played at Easebourne's Rotherfield ground. They applied to join the Sus- sex County League in 1980, but were rejected. However, the following year they were successful, and were accepted into Division Two. After finishing as runners-up in their first season, they were promoted to Division One.

They finished bottom of the division in 1986–87 and were relegated back to Division Two. They returned to Division One after finishing second in 1991–92, but were immediately relegated back to Division Two. The following season they were relegated again. They won Division Three at the first attempt, but were relegated back to it at the end of the 1997–98 season, and after finishing bottom of the division the following season, left the league. They dropped into the West Sussex League.

After winning the Premier Division in 2001–02 they returned to the Sussex County League and won Division Three at the first attempt, earning promotion to Division Two.

Our club is known for providing one of the friendliest of welcomes in the league, and for the quality of our playing surface which is superior to any club at our level.

We have a growing list of alumni who have come through our playing ranks and gone on to play professionally. We have excellent established links with all south coast football league clubs with a list of our youth talent currently at their academies. Our first team manager Darren Pearce brings through youth with a clear pathway for those wanting to aspire to first team football.

We want to keep this excellent pathway of football alive. We have boys and girls training with us who are desperate for team and playing experience, sadly we lack youth coaches and managers. We can offer to support anyone who comes forward to be a coach/

manager and we have vast football experience within our ranks who can support you on you and your teams journey. PLEASE get in touch, you can speak to anyone and they will point you in the right direction. If your child is currently on one of the evening training courses, have a chat with Darren. We are on all the social media platforms if you want to contact us informally at first.

We have big plans for the future of the club, we are working with Sports Dream to progress our development of a new club house. However, for the club to continue to prosper, more volunteer help is required behind the scenes - particularly on a Saturday and evening match day in ground set-up, match day hosting, stray ball collection and clearing up.

You may feel you can add value in other ways as an active part of our Committee - if so, we would also love to hear from you.

We would like to invite anyone who can give whatever spare time they may have to assist around the club. A passion for football is optional!

If you think you can make a difference, please contact club Treasurer Dickie Isted on 07885 619849 or email him info@selseypropertieslettings.co.uk
