You mustupdatethevideoadapterbasicinput/outputsystem (BIOS)code onthe Remote SupervisorAdapterII.ThevideoadapterBIOScode updateisincludedin theLinuxinstallationkitthatyoudownloadedfromtheIBMSupportWebsite. Completethefollowingstepsto createa videoadapterBIOSupdatedisketteand updatethevideoadapterBIOScode:
1. Insert ablankdisketteinto thediskettedrive. 2. Openanxtermorotherterminal window. 3. Change totheibmsspdirectory.
4. Froma shellcommand-lineprompt,typethefollowingcommandandpress Enter:
"dd of=/dev/fd0 if=filename.img bs=1440", wherefilename isthe file name for theVideoAdapterBIOSthatislistedinthereadmefile.

Usetheinformationinthis sectionto installtheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII device driversfortheRedHatLinuxor SuSELinuxoperatingsystem.
ThebinaryRedHat PackageManager(RPM)file(ibmusbasm-xx.x-y.i386.rpm, wherexx.xistheRPM versionandyisthebuildnumberof theRPM) containsthe binarydevicedrivers.Additionally,thesourceRPMfile(ibmusbasm-xx.x-y.src.rpm,
wherexx.xistheRPM versionandyisthebuildnumberof theRPM) containsthe open sourcecodefor theRemote SupervisorAdapter IIdevicedriversfor RedHat LinuxandSuSELinux.
Preliminary
operations
If youarereplacinga previouslyinstalledRemoteSupervisorAdapterwitha Remote SupervisorAdapterII,you mustcompletethefollowing tasksbefore installing RemoteSupervisorAdapterIIdevice drivers:
v RemovetheinstalledRemote SupervisorAdapter devicedrivers v EnableUSBkeyboardandmousesupport
Removing devicedrivers: Completethefollowing stepsto removepreviously installedRemote SupervisorAdapter devicedrivers:
1. Todeterminewhetheryouhave theRPM packagesinstalled,type
rpm -qa | grep ibmasm
2. ToremovethebinarydriverRPM,type
rpm -e ibmasm
3. ToremovethesourcecodeRPM, type
rpm -e ibmasm-src-[redhat/suse]
Enabling USBkeyboardandmouse support: Completethefollowing stepsto enableUSBkeyboardandmousesupport:
1. Turn onor restarttheserverandwatchthemonitorscreen.
2. When the messagePress F1 for Configuration/Setup appears, pressF1.
Note: Ifyouhave previouslysetbothlevelsof passwords(power-on and administrator),youmusttypetheadministrator passwordtoaccessthe fullConfiguration/SetupUtilitymenu.Withouttheadministratorpassword, limitedConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogramfunctionsareavailable. 3. SelectAdvancedSetupandthenselectRSAII Settings.
4. In theOSUSBSelectionfield,selectLinux.
5. SelectSaveValuesandRebootRSAII.
6. If youwantto configuretheRemote SupervisorAdapter IItouse DHCPora staticIPaddress, dosonow;however,this isnotrequiredfor devicedriver installation.
Installing
RPM
Completethefollowingstepsto installthebinaryRPM: 1. Openanxtermorotherterminal window.
2. Change totheibmsspdirectory andlocatethefilename.rpm,wherefilenameis thefilename fortheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII USBInterfaceDaemonfor Linuxthatislistedinthereadmefile.
3. Type
rpm -ivh ibmusbasm-xx.x-y.i386.rpm,where xx.xistheRPM versionand y is thebuildnumberoftheRPM.
This RPMcopiesthedevicedriver,sharedlibrary,configuration,startup,andutility programs totheirapplicable locations.Itwillstartthedevicedriverif theRemote SupervisorAdapter IIisinstalledandthemini-USBcableisconnectedto the mini-USB connectorontheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII andto theserverUSB connector.
Thedevicedriver isconfiguredto startwhentheserverisstartedandtostopwhen theserverisrestartedorshutdown.
Uninstalling
RPM
TouninstalltheRPM,type
rpm -e ibmusbasm
This commandunloads thedevicedriverandremoves allof theibmusbasm-related filesfromtheserver.

4. TousetheUpdateFirmware featureof theRemote SupervisorAdapterIIWeb interface toupdatetheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII firmware,seethe “Updatingfirmware” sectionintheIBMRemoteSupervisorAdapter IIUser’s Guide.Thefirmwareupdatepacketfilesthatyouneedareintheibmssp directory.
5. ToupdatetheRemoteSupervisorAdapterIIfirmware fromacommand-line prompt,completethefollowingsteps:
a. Type thefollowingcommandandpressEnter:
./lflash -r

You canusetheAdvancedSettingsUtilitytoconfiguretheRemoteSupervisor Adapter IIEthernetsettings.
Note: Ifyouhave anaccessible,active, andconfiguredDynamicHost
ConfigurationProtocol(DHCP)serveronyournetwork,thehostname,IP address,gatewayaddress,andsubnetmaskaresetautomatically.Youcan usetheConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogramthatispartoftheserverBIOS
