You mustupdatethevideoadapterbasicinput/outputsystem (BIOS)code onthe Remote SupervisorAdapterII.ThevideoadapterBIOScode updateisincludedin theLinuxinstallationkitthatyoudownloadedfromtheIBMSupportWebsite. Completethefollowingstepsto createa videoadapterBIOSupdatedisketteand updatethevideoadapterBIOScode:

1. Insert ablankdisketteinto thediskettedrive. 2. Openanxtermorotherterminal window. 3. Change totheibmsspdirectory.

4. Froma shellcommand-lineprompt,typethefollowingcommandandpress Enter:

"dd of=/dev/fd0 if=filename.img bs=1440", wherefilename isthe file name for theVideoAdapterBIOSthatislistedinthereadmefile.

Thefilesareautomatically extractedto thedisketteinthediskettedrive. 5. ToupdatethevideoadapterBIOScode,restarttheserverwiththeVideo

Adapter BIOSdisketteinthediskettedrive.Followtheinstructionsonthe screen.

6. AfterthevideoadapterBIOScodeupdateiscompleted,removethediskette fromthediskettedriveandlabelthediskette.

4. Froma shellcommand-lineprompt,typethefollowingcommandandpress Enter:

"dd of=/dev/fd0 if=filename.img bs=1440", wherefilename isthe file name for theFlashBIOSUpdatethatislistedinthereadmefile.

Thefilesareautomatically extractedto thedisketteinthediskettedrive. 5. ToupdatetheserverBIOScode,restarttheserverwiththeFlashBIOSUpdate

disketteinthediskettedrive.

6. Fromthemenu,select1-UpdatePOST/BIOSandfollowtheinstructionson thescreen.

7. AftertheflashBIOSupdateiscompleted,removethediskettefromthediskette drive andlabelthediskette“FlashBIOSUpdate”.Youwillneedthis diskette whenyouupdatetheserverdiagnosticsinthefollowingsection.

You mustupdatetheserverdiagnosticscode forRemoteSupervisorAdapterII support.Thediagnosticscodefor yourserverisincludedintheLinuxinstallationkit thatyou downloadedfromtheIBMSupportWebsite.

Completethefollowingstepsto createthediskettesandupdatethediagnostics code.Youwillcreatetwo diagnosticsflashupdatediskettes.

1. Insertablankdisketteintothediskettedrive. 2. Openanxtermor otherterminalwindow. 3. Changeto theibmssp directory.

4. Fromashellcommand-lineprompt,type thefollowing commandandpress Enter:

"dd of=/dev/fd0 if=filename.img bs=1440", where filenameis thefile name forDiagnostics FlashUpdateDiskette1 of2thatislistedinthereadmefile. Thefilesareautomaticallyextractedtothedisketteinthediskettedrive. 5. Removethediskettefromthediskettedriveandlabelthediskette. 6. Insertasecond blankdisketteintothediskettedrive.

7. TypethefollowingcommandandpressEnter:

"dd of=/dev/fd0 if=filename.img bs=1440", where filenameis thefile name forDiagnostics FlashUpdateDiskette2 of2thatislistedinthereadmefile. Thefilesareautomaticallyextractedtothedisketteinthediskettedrive. 8. Removethediskettefromthediskettedriveandlabeltheseconddiskette. 9. Toupdatethediagnosticscode,inserttheFlashBIOSUpdatediskette(that

youcreatedin“UpdatingtheserverBIOScode”) intothediskettedrive and restarttheserver.

Overview

TheRemote SupervisorAdapter IIdevicedriversenablecommunicationbetween theRemote SupervisorAdapter IIandtheoperatingsystemof theserverinwhich theRemote SupervisorAdapter IIisinstalled.YoumustinstalltheRemote

SupervisorAdapter IIdevicedriverstoperformthefollowingfunctions: v In-bandmanagement

v Operating-systemshutdown v Operating-systemwatchdog v Loaderwatchdog

TheRemote SupervisorAdapter IIdevicedriversareincludedintheLinux installationkitthatyoudownloadedfromtheIBMSupport Website.

TheRemote SupervisorAdapter IIdevicedriversaresupportedonthefollowing Linuxoperating systems:

v RedHat Linux® 7.3 v SuSELinux8.0

Note: Alaterversionof RedHat Linuxor SuSELinuxmightbesupportedfor your server.TodeterminewhetherthereisasupportedRemoteSupervisor AdapterII devicedriverfor yourservermodelrunningyourversionof Red HatLinuxorSuSE Linux,goto http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/.

If youareinstalling devicedriversmanually,notethefollowinginformation:

v Makesure thattheoperating systemisinstalledonyourserverbeforeyou install theRemoteSupervisorAdapterIIdevice drivers.Forinformationabout installing theoperatingsystem,seethedocumentation thatcomeswithyourserver.

Important:BeforeinstallingaLinuxoperating system,besuretoreadthe informationintheRemote SupervisorAdapter IITechnicalUpdatefor Linuxusers thatcomesintheRemote SupervisorAdapter IIoptionpackage.

Installing

the

device

drivers

Usetheinformationinthis sectionto installtheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII device driversfortheRedHatLinuxor SuSELinuxoperatingsystem.

ThebinaryRedHat PackageManager(RPM)file(ibmusbasm-xx.x-y.i386.rpm, wherexx.xistheRPM versionandyisthebuildnumberof theRPM) containsthe binarydevicedrivers.Additionally,thesourceRPMfile(ibmusbasm-xx.x-y.src.rpm,

wherexx.xistheRPM versionandyisthebuildnumberof theRPM) containsthe open sourcecodefor theRemote SupervisorAdapter IIdevicedriversfor RedHat LinuxandSuSELinux.

Preliminary

operations

If youarereplacinga previouslyinstalledRemoteSupervisorAdapterwitha Remote SupervisorAdapterII,you mustcompletethefollowing tasksbefore installing RemoteSupervisorAdapterIIdevice drivers:

v RemovetheinstalledRemote SupervisorAdapter devicedrivers v EnableUSBkeyboardandmousesupport

Removing devicedrivers: Completethefollowing stepsto removepreviously installedRemote SupervisorAdapter devicedrivers:

1. Todeterminewhetheryouhave theRPM packagesinstalled,type

rpm -qa | grep ibmasm

2. ToremovethebinarydriverRPM,type

rpm -e ibmasm

3. ToremovethesourcecodeRPM, type

rpm -e ibmasm-src-[redhat/suse]

Enabling USBkeyboardandmouse support: Completethefollowing stepsto enableUSBkeyboardandmousesupport:

1. Turn onor restarttheserverandwatchthemonitorscreen.

2. When the messagePress F1 for Configuration/Setup appears, pressF1.

Note: Ifyouhave previouslysetbothlevelsof passwords(power-on and administrator),youmusttypetheadministrator passwordtoaccessthe fullConfiguration/SetupUtilitymenu.Withouttheadministratorpassword, limitedConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogramfunctionsareavailable. 3. SelectAdvancedSetupandthenselectRSAII Settings.

4. In theOSUSBSelectionfield,selectLinux.

5. SelectSaveValuesandRebootRSAII.

6. If youwantto configuretheRemote SupervisorAdapter IItouse DHCPora staticIPaddress, dosonow;however,this isnotrequiredfor devicedriver installation.

Installing

RPM

Completethefollowingstepsto installthebinaryRPM: 1. Openanxtermorotherterminal window.

2. Change totheibmsspdirectory andlocatethefilename.rpm,wherefilenameis thefilename fortheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII USBInterfaceDaemonfor Linuxthatislistedinthereadmefile.

3. Type

rpm -ivh ibmusbasm-xx.x-y.i386.rpm,where xx.xistheRPM versionand y is thebuildnumberoftheRPM.

This RPMcopiesthedevicedriver,sharedlibrary,configuration,startup,andutility programs totheirapplicable locations.Itwillstartthedevicedriverif theRemote SupervisorAdapter IIisinstalledandthemini-USBcableisconnectedto the mini-USB connectorontheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII andto theserverUSB connector.

Thedevicedriver isconfiguredto startwhentheserverisstartedandtostopwhen theserverisrestartedorshutdown.

Uninstalling

RPM

TouninstalltheRPM,type

rpm -e ibmusbasm

This commandunloads thedevicedriverandremoves allof theibmusbasm-related filesfromtheserver.

Note: Besureyouinstall theRemoteSupervisorAdapterIIdevice driverforLinux beforeyou updatetheRemoteSupervisorAdapter IIfirmware.

You mustupdatetheRemoteSupervisorAdapterIIfirmware codefor fullfeature support.Thefirmwarecode updateisincludedintheLinuxinstallationkitthatyou downloadedfromtheIBMSupport Website.

Completethefollowingstepsto unpackthefilesandupdatetheRemoteSupervisor Adapter IIfirmware.

Note: Afteryouunpackthefiles,you canupdatetheRemote SupervisorAdapter II firmwareeither fromtheRemote SupervisorAdapterIIWebinterfaceora command-lineprompt.

1. Openanxtermorotherterminal window. 2. Change totheibmsspdirectory.

3. Froma shellcommand-lineprompt,typethefollowingcommandandpress Enter:

"tar -zxvf filename.tgz", wherefilenameisthefile name for Remote

SupervisorAdapterII FirmwareUpdatefor Linuxthatislistedinthereadmefile. Thefilesareautomatically extractedto theibmssp directory.

4. TousetheUpdateFirmware featureof theRemote SupervisorAdapterIIWeb interface toupdatetheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII firmware,seethe “Updatingfirmware” sectionintheIBMRemoteSupervisorAdapter IIUser’s Guide.Thefirmwareupdatepacketfilesthatyouneedareintheibmssp directory.

5. ToupdatetheRemoteSupervisorAdapterIIfirmware fromacommand-line prompt,completethefollowingsteps:

a. Type thefollowingcommandandpressEnter:

./lflash -r

Thesystemupdates theRemoteSupervisorAdapterIIfirmware. b. AftertheRemoteSupervisorAdapterIIfirmware updateprocessis

completed, youwillseea messagesimilartothefollowingmessage:

Rebooting RSA...done.

Completethefollowingstepsto usetheConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogramto view andchangetheRemote SupervisorAdapter IIsettings:

1. If youhavenotalreadydoneso,updatetheserverBIOScode.Formore information, see“UpdatingtheserverBIOScode”onpage2.

2. Turn onor restarttheserverandwatchthemonitorscreen.

3. When the messagePress F1 for Configuration/Setup appears, pressF1.

Configuring

Ethernet

settings

TheRemote SupervisorAdapter IIrequiresconfigurationtoenableremoteaccess to theadapterthroughtheadapterEthernetandserialconnectors.

For detailedinformationabout usingtheASM Webinterface forremoteaccess,see theIBMRemoteSupervisorAdapter IIUser’sGuide.

You canusetheAdvancedSettingsUtilitytoconfiguretheRemoteSupervisor Adapter IIEthernetsettings.

Note: Ifyouhave anaccessible,active, andconfiguredDynamicHost

ConfigurationProtocol(DHCP)serveronyournetwork,thehostname,IP address,gatewayaddress,andsubnetmaskaresetautomatically.Youcan usetheConfiguration/SetupUtilityprogramthatispartoftheserverBIOS

codeto selectDHPCserversettings.Formoreinformation,see“Using the Configuration/SetupUtilitytoviewandchangeRemote SupervisorAdapter II settings”onpage6. YoucanalsoconfiguretheDHCPsettingusingthe AdvancedSettingsUtility.Tousetheutility,continuewiththefollowing procedure.

If youhaveanenabledDHCPserverandyouwanttoconfiguretheserial connector, goto “Configuringtheserialconnection.”

Completethefollowingstepsto configuretheEthernetsettingsif youdonothave a DHCP serveronyournetwork:

1. If necessary,openanxtermor otherterminalwindowandchangetotheibmssp directory.

2. Toviewalist ofallsettingsandtheirassignedvalues,fromashell command-lineprompt,typethefollowingcommandandpressEnter:

3. Fromthefollowinglist, selecttheitemsthatyouwanttoset:

v Toenablethenetwork interfaceontheRemoteSupervisorAdapterII,type thefollowingcommandandpressEnter:

./asu set RSA_Network1 Enabled

v Toset theIPaddress, type ./asuset RSA_HostIPAddress1, typethe IP addressof theRemote SupervisorAdapter II,andpressEnter.

v Toset thesubnetmask,type ./asu set RSA_HostIPSubnet1, typethe value forthesubnetmask,andpressEnter.Thedefaultvalueis255.255.255.0. v Toset thegatewayIPaddress, type ./asu set RSA_GatewayIPAddress1, type

theIPaddressofthegateway,andpressEnter.

v Toenable DHCP,type ./asu set RSA_DHCP1 Enabled, and pressEnter. v Toset the data-transfer rate,type ./asu set RSA_LANDataRate1“10M

Ethernet” for 10Mbpsdata-transferrate or ./asu set RSA_LANDataRate1 "100M Ethernet"for 100Mbpsdata-transferrate,and pressEnter.

v Toset duplex mode,type ./asu set RSA_Duplex1 Half,Full, or Auto, and pressEnter.

4. Toexitthecommandprompt,typeexit.

Configuring

serial

connection

You canusetheAdvancedSettingsUtilityto configuretheRemoteSupervisor Adapter IIserialconnection.Theserialconnectorconnectsto amodemfordial-out supportonly.

Completethefollowingstepsto configuretheRemoteSupervisorAdapter IIserial connection foraccesstoa modem:

1. Openanxtermorotherterminal windowandchange totheibmsspdirectory. 2. Toviewalist ofallof thesettingsandassignedvalues,typethefollowing

commandandpressEnter:

./asu show all

3. You canselectfromthecommandsinthefollowinglist:

v Tochangethemodembaud rate,typethefollowingcommandandpress Enter:

./asu set RSA_ModemBaudRate1value, wherevalue isa numberfrom 2400 to 57600inincrementsof 2400(forexample,2400, 4800,7200,9600, ...57600). Thedefaultis57600.

Note: Makesurethatthebaudratematchesthebaudrateof thedevice you areconnectingto theserialconnectorontheRemote Supervisor Adapter II.

v Tochangethemodemparity,typethefollowingcommandandpressEnter: ./asu set RSA_ModemParity1 value, wherevalue isNone, Odd, Even, Mark, orSpace.ThedefaultisNone.
