of the New Zealand marine industry

as an export sector

(2)

The NZ Marine industry is New Zealand’s largest specialised manufacturing sector providing approximately 10% of NZ’s total manufactured exports (excluding packaged agriculture exports such as meat). The NZ marine industry is a $1.7 billion industry with $650m in exports and has a plan to significantly

grow its exports over the next few years.

Key points of difference enabling the

NZ marine industry to successfully

compete internationally:

1.

Its long standing profile as a world leader in innovative design of boats,

equipment and services

2.

New Zealand’s reputation for integrity in the global market

3.

New Zealand’s recognition as the major marine industry service hub in

the South Pacific

4.

New Zealand’s natural attractiveness as a destination for international

superyachts and cruising yachts

5.

New Zealand’s highly skilled work-force and resulting high quality of

workmanship and customer satisfaction

6.

A strong NZ Marine Export Group Association that provides benefits

including marine industry companies working together

NZ Marine Export Group Objective:

To increase export sales of New Zealand built vessels,

equipment and services.

This will be achieved by:

1. Successful promotion of our industry and New Zealand as a

yachting destination

Monaco Yacht Show

The largest exhibit by New Zealand companies for many years and ably assisted by Tourism NZ, ATEED and NZTE over the past few years providing a high profile for New Zealand as a destination for visiting superyachts and the NZ marine industry as a whole.

Each year for the past 15 or so years we get 10-13 companies exhibiting under the New Zealand banner at the show, and over 6 companies attending the show as ‘Walkers”. With the support of exhibitors and walkers, we host a New Zealand networking function on the second night of the Monaco Yacht Show.

Michael Eaglen, CEO of McMullen and Wing states:

Without hesitation, the most important

show in our marketing year is the Monaco

Yacht Show. It is the key annual meeting

place for the world superyacht industry.”

Fort Lauderdale International

Boat Show

METS

Andy Stephens, CEO Vetus Maxwell APAC Ltd, quote:

Thank you for your efforts organising the

NZ Marine pavilion at Ft Lauderdale last year

(and previous years). We participate in several

shows each year and the support you provide

makes our internal logistics so much easier. In

addition, having the NZ Marine banner above

the MAXWELL stand and being surrounded by

other quality NZ companies is still beneficial

for us, even after nearly 50 years in business. It

is difficult to quantify the positive association

mentioned above however we still have clients

both old and new who come looking for the

NZ pavilion to find us. We look forward to an

even better show in 2015.”

The largest boat show in the USA has been supported by New Zealand companies for over 10 years. We continue to keep a high profile of New Zealand companies at the show. The constant support from our exhibitors who attend the

METS show has been unwavering over the last few years, and our member companies see this show as crucial for the international distribution of their product.

Each year we have between 8-12 companies represented at the METS show in the New Zealand Pavilion Hall 2 and also in The Superyacht Pavilion.

Alan Maddox, Tru Design states:

Tru Design has exhibited on our stand

at METS for the last 12 years and we can

attribute our success in now having over 30

distributors worldwide on our participation at

this large equipment marine show.”

Chris Baird, Managing Director FUSION Worldwide adds:

METS was important when I was at NAVMAN and it has been even more important for

FUSION over the years. We plan well in advance to have all of our international customers come

and visit us at the stand. Our annual attendance at METS is one of the major reasons why we are

enjoying the success we are in the international marine industry“

Superyachting New Zealand

NZ Millennium Cup

Superyachting New Zealand is the most effective publication the NZ Marine Export Group has produced. We worked hard on ensuring that this coffee-table style luxury magazine was received by our target market. This was achieved by us partnering with The Superyacht Group and delivering our magazine to 923 superyacht owners, 1,547 superyacht captains/yachts direct, 256 yacht managers, 131 brokers/charter brokers and 143 owner reps. Plus our own distribution at the Monaco Yacht Show 2014, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2014, NZ Millennium Cup 2015, Singapore Yacht Show 2015, Superyacht Cup Palma 2015, Monaco Yacht Show 2015, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2015, Island Cruising Association delivering to superyachts, cruising yachts and agents in the South Pacific, NZ Marine consultant Clive Bennett and CEO Peter Busfield visit to Tahiti, distribution throughout Europe, Asia and the United States and NZTE offices worldwide.

The NZ Marine Export Group successfully re-launched the NZ Millennium Cup by holding it in the Bay of Islands for the first time in January 2015. We gained huge international exposure with our message reaching over 1.78 million people, as well as providing great networking opportunities for our sponsors to get alongside superyacht owners, managers, captains and crew.

Drawing attention to New Zealand’s beautiful cruising grounds, skilled workforce and innovative industry, we look forward to delivering another event which showcases the best of our superyacht sector in a relaxed, recognisably-Kiwi style. A key focus of the regatta is to encourage extended cruising within the country, and the committee will be working closely with the wider industry to ensure yachts are aware of the diversity New Zealand waters present, as well as the opportunity for world-leading refit and repair services.

Some feedback from a superyacht captain:

This year’s NZ Millennium Cup has been

the best yet. Sailing in the ‘Bay’ in such superb

conditions was a real pleasure. Thanks to all

the race crew for getting us around the race

track in one piece and making us look good

out there. Looking forward to the next one.”

We look forward to hosting another successful NZ Millennium Cup in 27-29 January 2016. For more information on the NZ Millennium Cup please visit our website www.millenniumcup.com

The recent publication has been very well received by the superyacht fraternity with Peter Wilson from MCM in the USA, one of the industry’s leading project managers/ owners reps stating that he was very impressed!

Singapore Yacht Show

Superyacht Cup Palma

From our research of member companies and international trends, the Singapore Yacht Show stands out as the one show in Asia that is not only gaining in popularity but is becoming one of the most respected shows with yacht, boat and superyacht customers from all Asian countries. This year we supported Tourism NZ’s New Zealand stand at the Singapore Yacht Show and also hosted the

New Zealand function supported by ATEED. With 10 NZ Marine Export Group member companies participating on the stand and function, the New Zealand presence was strong and the impact was good.

Ron Czerniak, Vetus Maxwell APAC Ltd

Both Andy and I attended the show as

“Walkers” and successfully used the show

and the NZ presence as an ideal networking

means. The social event on Saturday night

was excellent and certainly worthwhile.

Those in the global marine industry know that

the Kiwi functions are worth attending and

I think it is one of the contributing factors

in getting quality people to such events.

Handing out invitations before and during the

show was a really good idea”

Mark Wightman, Integrated Marine Group

Great event which worked well, got

great contacts from this.”

Continuing on the great presence and support New Zealand companies have provided The Superyacht Cup Palma over the past years, NZ Marine worked

with NZTE, Tourism NZ and MFAT to take up the Silver Sponsorship opportunities and be the only destination sponsor at the 2015 Superyacht Cup Palma regatta.

Channels to Market Seminars

On Deck Newsletter

Every 4-6 months we produce an Export Group member-focused ‘On Deck’ newsletter which gets sent to our international media contacts informing them of our

member’s latest news and where and when we will be during the year.

Last year we started our Export Group member-focused “Channels to Market” seminars where we invite key guest speakers to address our members on particular subjects. With key speakers such as Gary Paykel, Sir Ken Stevens and Sir Peter Maire discussing their successes in international distribution, our members find these seminars valuable and we will continue with them throughout the following couple of years.
