Welcome to the Bates Technical College joint recruitment testing process for 2015. Bates has teamed up
with a consortium of Western Washington fire districts and cities to assist them in their hiring needs.
There are no requirements of previous experience in the fire service field; however, there are some
minimum requirements for each individual department. You must be at least 18 years of age on or
before Feb. 6, 2015 to test.
Before you get started, please read the agency information for each department for their
requirements at

General Information
•
The
non-refundable
written exam fee: $75
•
The
non-refundable
CPAT fee: $119, only due if you pass the written test.
• DO NOT
submit résumés or any other certificates,
except
for the following:
IFSAC FF1
Washington state EMT or Paramedic, or National Registry EMT
DD214, if claiming veteran’s preference, points will be added to your scores by the departments.
Getting Started
Step 1:
Read the agency information for each department’s requirements:

Step 2:
Complete the application, make sure your emails are correct, print, sign and send it in.
Step 3:
Attach only the certifications (not diplomas or completions) that are asked for (see above.) All
résumés and extra certifications will be discarded.
Step 4:
Make sure your credit card information is complete or send cashier’s check or money orders (no
personal checks are accepted) for your non-refundable $75 testing fee.
Step 5: Turn in your application packet by Feb. 6,
2015. It must be postmarked no later than 5 p.m. on
Feb. 6.
(Do not wait until the last minute. Act early and submit your application packet in advance of the
deadline.)

Test times are 8 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 3 p.m.
Bates will add additional test times or dates if needed based on the total number of applicants.

guaranteed, once your time is set it
can’t be changed due to the high volume of
test takers.

Applicants must pass the test and have a score of 80 percent to be considered to move forward in
the application process. A CPAT orientation will be scheduled for all candidates the same day of the
test, March 7. If you do not want to attend the orientation or practice please sign the waiver in the
application.

All applicants must take the CPAT test through Bates’ Fire Service to complete the application process.
The
orientation and practice are not mandatory; however, we highly encourage your participation.
If you want to waive the orientation and practice you must sign the waiver below.
We will email you with your scheduled date and time for the orientation, practice test and test.
Please keep your
calendars open for these dates and times. We will send out payment requests for your test fee of $119 with your CPAT
test form.
It is required that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your set time to watch a video.
Once you are assigned a specific date

PROTECTED GROUP DEFINITIONS
American Indian or Alaskan Native. A person with origins in any of the original peoples of North America and who maintains cultural identification through documented tribal affiliation or community recognition.
Asian or Pacific Islander. A person with origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, or the Pacific Islands.
Black/African-American. A person with origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa. Hispanic. A person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race. For example, persons from Brazil, Guyana, or Surinam would be classified according to their race and would not necessarily be included in the Hispanic category. This category does not include persons from Portugal, who should be classified according to their race.
White/Caucasian. A person with origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East.
Disabilities. For Affirmative Action purposes, people with disabilities are persons with a permanent physical, mental or sensory impairment which substantially limits one or more life activities.
