Yellow Fever Training
Classroom Training (previously known as full day training) ‐ This is the NaTHNaC face‐ to‐face training course with a compulsory multiple choice online completion test. Classroom Training is the initial training for centres applying for/or considering Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre (YFVC) designation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (EWNI). However, this will also be particularly useful for anyone new to yellow fever (YF) vaccination. Here are a few things you need to know:
• Aimed at centres that wish to become YFVCs (new or reinstated). • Limited availability for anyone new to yellow fever vaccination.
• A classroom course is £180 per applicant (this fee is reviewed periodically). • Courses are currently held in London and Liverpool at regular intervals.
• Minimum of 12 courses run every year but only scheduled and advertised quarterly. • The format is informal and interactive (lead by travel health specialist nurses).
• The estimated time for each course is 5 hours (excluding 1 hour lunch).
• All trainees will be required to complete an online completion test after attending training.
• Training is valid for 2 years from test completion date.
Classroom training is designed to:
• Introduce trainees to NaTHNaC and YF vaccination
• Equip trainees with the relevant knowledge and skills to provide a safe YF vaccination service.
Topics covered include: • Introduction to YF
• YF Epidemiology, Clinical Features and Prevention
• International Health Regulations (IHRs)
• YF Certificate Requirements
• Vaccine Information
• The YFVC Code of Practice
• Responsibilities of YFVCs
• Scenarios ‐ Advising the Traveller
The list of the current classroom training dates, training special conditions and classroom training application form are available on the NaTHNaC website.

Online Training (previously known as update training) ‐ This is the NaTHNaC e‐learning training programme and completion test. To remain designated, YFVCs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (EWNI) are required to update YF training once every two years. This is now an online course with a compulsory multiple choice completion test.
Here are a few things you need to know:
• This is a refresher course and is a mandatory requirement for all YFVCs due for training renewal. • Previous knowledge of YF may have been acquired from attending classroom training (previously full
day or update training), or as a result of travel medicine practise.
• If you have not previously attended NaTHNaC training or benefited from knowledge in‐house from your YF lead practitioner, you may wish to consider attending a classroom course instead.
• An online course is £105 per applicant (this fee is reviewed periodically).
• Training is valid for 2 years from test completion date.
Online training is designed to:
• Build upon existing knowledge of YF.
• Equip trainees with the relevant knowledge and skill to provide an up to date YF vaccination service.
• Present the course in a user friendly e‐format that will enable interactive participation and empower self directed learning in a timeframe that is convenient.
The course consists of 3 modules:
• YF Epidemiology, Clinical Features and Prevention
• International Health Regulations (IHRs) and Certificate Requirements
• YF Vaccine: Theory to Practice
• Scenarios: Advising the Traveller
• The online training application form and training special conditions are available on the NaTHNaC website.
