ACFRE Continuing Education

Eligible Activities

The following sessions have been approved as eligible for credit toward the ACFRE education

requirements in senior-level organizational leadership, senior-level organizational management,

and ethics.

This list is not exhaustive; please refer to the ACFRE Continuing Education

guidelines for other acceptable topics you may self-select.

Suggestions for Identifying Other Eligible Activities

The ACFRE Board aims to be as inclusive as possible, while maintaining the standard of

continuing education activity being relevant to the senior-level of fundraising practice. Please

explore any of the options below that may facilitate your application for the ACFRE program.

______________________________________________

1. A recent decision by the ACFRE Board allows candidates to utilize distance-learning versions

of previously approved activities, such as audiotapes of AFP International Conference sessions.

You may order them online at http://www.actsconferenceproducts.com/merchant/conf.asp;

search under “Nonprofit.” Most tapes are $15.00 each.

2. Look back at

everything

you have attended (or taught) related to the profession, during the

past five years. Possibilities include, in addition to those listed here, courses you took for an

advanced degree; university extension courses; on-line courses resulting in academic credit; and

relevant sessions sponsored by your AFP chapter or another organization.

3. If you are not sure if a particular course you have taken (or plan to take) will qualify, you may

submit course information to the ACFRE Board for pre-review, using the

ACFRE Continuing

Education Course Documentation

form (page 11 in the ACFRE application materials). The form

is also available through the AFP website, or you may request copies a hard copy from ACFRE

staff at (703)

519-84

69

. The ACFRE Certification Board will review submitted courses during

their semi-annual meetings in January and August.

4. Courses you teach count too, so there’s another good reason to serve as a speaker for your

chapter’s conference or Fundraising Days. Your presentation must fit the same criteria as courses

you attend, so it’s a good idea to consult with ACFRE staff in selecting a topic and target

audience for your session.

5. Encourage your chapter to include advanced topics in their annual continuing education

planning. Better yet, serve on the planning committee!
