Q: Why do I need an account in the DHS Training Registry?

A: In order to register for CCR&R classes, ALL providers need an account in the DHS Training Registry. Unless you are

the primary home provider in a home child care program who already has a Kinder Track (KT) ID and password, you are

encouraged to set up an ID and password as an individual regardless of where you work.

Q: What does the Training Registry do for me?

A: There are several benefits to using the Training Registry. Benefits include:

The ability to search, view, and enroll in approved training

Track training taken by viewing training history (your personal training record)

Search for training by date, title, CDA Content Area, county, region, city, or training type

E-mail notifications of class registration and rescheduled or cancelled classes

Q: How do I set up my account?

A: First you need an e-

mail address. (If you don’t already have one, one can be created for free at sites like yahoo.com)

Then log onto:

https://ccmis.dhs.state.ia.us/mainportal/

and follow the directions on page 3 of this calendar.

Q: Why does it ask for me to enter a personal identification number (PIN)?

A: The state of Iowa requires providers to enter a PIN in order to link them to their child care business as well as to keep

your identity safe and ensure you are the one accessing your account. If you are having trouble setting up your PIN,

please use the “report a problem” link.

Q: Can’t I just send in my paper registration like I always have?

A: Yes, but only after you register for your class through the Training Registry. Currently the registry does not support

online payments so you will need to send your payment and payment form before your enrollment is approved in the

Train-ing Registry.

Q: I don’t have access to a computer/internet at my home. How can I register?

A: Important information, such as confirming that your registration for a training has been approved, will be e-mailed to

you. If you do not have a computer of your own, we encourage you to find other ways to access your e-mail, either through

your library, family, friends, etc.

Lead & Assistant Teacher/Co-Provider/Site Supervisor

The first time you sign in to your account, you will be prompted to complete basic account information. Once you have completed all the information hit “Submit” at the bottom of the page. You will now

be ready to search and register for trainings.

Follow the steps below to tie yourself to your current business: 1. Login to the Training Registry. Select “Manage Account” on the

left side of the screen.

2. Under “Tasks” select “Request a Job Category.” 3. Choose a job description from the drop down list. 4. Click “Select” next to Business Name.

5. Enter criteria to search for your child care business and click “Search”.

6. Check the box next to your child care business and click “Save Selected”. Then Click “Select”.

Your request to be tied to the child care business will now go to the Center Director or Primary Home Provider for approval. Please note: Your personal training record will remain connected to your individual account, but by tying yourself to a child care business you will be recognized within the

Training Registry as an employee of that business. You can delete this connection to the child care business at any time.

All Child Care Providers - Please read all instructions FIRST! Note: Using a browser other than INTERNET EXPLORER may cause errors.

**If you have a KinderTrack Account set up, you do NOT need to set up an additional account. The log-in and password are the same.** 1. Access the Provider Training Registry through the IA DHS website at https://ccmis.dhs.state.ia.us/mainportal/

2. Click the Training Registry icon (the hand with the pencil). 3. Choose “Sign In” on the bottom left side of the page. 4. Choose the “Create an Account” tab.

7. Login to your email account and open the email sent to you from the Training Registry. Follow the directions to confirm your account. Print this page for your records.

8. The link in your e-mail will take you to a webpage with a strange image. Follow the three steps on this page.

9. On the next screen, answer the three security questions. Create a password at least 8 characters long with both upper and lower case letters and/or a special character.

Center Director/Primary Home Provider

The first time you sign in to your account, you will be prompted to complete basic account

infor-mation. You will also be prompted to enter a PIN. This number will identify you as an individu-al in the state system and takes the place of hav-ing to enter your Social Security Number. Once

you have completed all the information hit “Submit” at the bottom of the page. You will now

be ready to search and register for trainings on the Training Registry.

Once you choose and submit your PIN, your ac-count should link to your KinderTrack acac-count. If

this does not occur, click on the “Report A Problem” link.

If you already have an established KinderTrack account you will use the same login information to access the Training Registry. If you have forgotten your ID or password, contact

ite.servicedesk@iowa.gov for assistance.

Enrolling in a Class or Series:

1. Sign in to the Training Registry and choose “Search Training” on the left side of the screen.

2. Narrow your search options. An easy way to search for classes in your area is to change “Training Type” to Class

or Series and “Search By” to County and use the list to find the county where you want to take trainings. 3. Click the “Search” button next to the back button near the left side of the screen.

4. Click on the title of a class or series for more information about the class. Hit the “Enroll” button next to the class name to begin enrolling in the class.

5. On the next page, after confirming the enrollment details are correct, click “Submit”.

6. This will take you to a page titled “Enrollment Receipt”. Print this page or use the registration form in this calendar to send in with your payment to ensure it is properly credited to you. Be sure to click “Okay” to finalize your enrollment request.

7. Once payment is received by the CCR&R office, your enrollment will be approved. You will receive an e-mail that indicates whether you are approved or denied or put on a waiting list in cases where the class is already full.

Child Care Provider Training Opportunities

Registration deadline is one week prior to first class session. The registration deadline is the last day that you can

register for a class. In order to meet the deadline, you must request enrollment through the Training Registry before the

posted deadline. If the class has a fee, you must also submit a payment form and payment to our office on or before

the registration deadline date. Class sizes are limited so it is important to register early.

Enrollment via the Training Registry for classes that require payment is not accepted until payment is received.

This module looks at the development of those relationships through the concepts of intimacy in groups, routines of care and the importance of the environment where care takes place. This training series is offered FREE.

IA PITC Series Training Opportunities

IA PITC Module IV: Culture, Family and Providers - Since the family is the most important influence and support in a child’s life it is so important for the child care provider and the family to make decisions together. Just as important is the fact that an infant is developing a sense of who they are, where they come from, and how they are valued. Recognizing and respecting the cultural beliefs that are a part of that identity is absolutely crucial. Communicating in an infant’s home language is also important. This training series is offered FREE.

Series Training Opportunities

Do you have a question about ERS Training?

We have an answer!

Q:

What does ERS have to do with QRS?

A:

In order to move up to levels 3-5 on the QRS, you must have points in the

Environment category. Simply completing the training series successfully awards you

2 points!

Q:

I’m not ready for QRS levels 3-5. Is it okay for me to take it “early”?

A:

Yes! The ERS training you need may not be offered near you every year so it’s a

great idea to take it when it’s available in your area.

Q:

How do I know which ERS training I am supposed to take?

A:

Be sure to check the description of the training series. Family Child Care ERS

(FCCERS) is the ONLY series that home child care providers are eligible to take. The

other 3 series are for center staff. Please read the description and title of the series

and choose the one that matches the age group of children you care for.

FALL HEALTH AND SAFETY REMINDERS

In October, children and families are reminded of the importance of preventing fires and how to stay

safe if a fire were to occur. Are you doing your part to help the children in your child care stay safe?

DHS regulations require you to:

Homes:

Install smoke detectors in every child occupied room and at the top of stairways

Centers:

Schedule an inspection with the fire marshal before you begin operating and every year

thereafter

Check your smoke detectors monthly

Practice emergency drills (fire and tornado drills) monthly

Keep a log of when your emergency drills were practiced and smoke detectors were checked

Post your emergency plans for fire, tornado, and flood or emergency evacuation as required for your program

Determine a “meeting place” and ensure that all children know where to meet in the event of a fire

Did you know CCR&R Child Care Consultants have forms to help you document and maintain compliance with these

regulations? Contact your CCR&R Child Care Consultant today for assistance!
