Freedom of expression is the innovation of democracy. Media is one of its pillars the best for public expression. With the advent of printing devices in the 15th century the means and medium of public expression have expanded and blossomed astronomically. As a mission right from its inception journalism has enriched the potential and development of democratic practices throughout the world.

The information revolution has widened the horizon for media. We are familiar with its various forms like newspapers, magazines, cinema, radio, TV, mobile phone and internet. Their role and significance is continuously increasing in our daily lives. Social media has expanded the traditional education system of media. Consequently demand for personnel trained in various disciplines of media has increased tremendously.

Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Raipur is rapidly gaining recognition as a centre of national level learning him media studies. The curriculum framework for Journalism, Mass Communication, Electronic Media, Advertising and Public Relation, Media Management and Social Work offered by the university have unique blend of classicism, modernism, innovation and perception of social development. Apart from this various innovative programmes on Indian Culture and Tradition, Indology and Heritage Management are also offered by the university. The span of programmes being offered by the university ranges from graduation to doctorate.

The 62 campus of the university are situated at Kathadih, Raipur. The scenic beauty and academic atmosphere definitely add a new dimension to the lifestyle and career prospectus future of its pupils.

Creation of specialized institutions for education, research in various fields of Journalism and Mass Communication is the requirement of the present time. Today, media is an inseparable part of life. Media has influenced our life, expression, thought and behaviors. Media requires youth who are not just technically sound but also socially sensitive and naturally creative.

The spirit behind the establishment of this University is the zeal to cultivate such human resource which is capable of becoming a significant part of a responsive society. The motto of developing this university is to ensure overall enrichment of our students and to inculcate social vision in them. Our dream of developing modern Media Gurukul of is gradually taking shape. The university alumni are making their presence by gaining recognition in various fields of the national media. We are indebted to celebrated intellectuals from various fields for inspiring our efforts for the manifestation of our dreams with their august presence. It is our endeavor that this university is able to contribute in the journey of making a new digital India.

Chhattisgarh Government established this university in the memory of great social thinker and saintly leader Kushabhau Thakre. Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya Act no. 24 was passed by Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha in December 2004 and it was published in the gazette on January 24, 2005.

The University was formally inaugurated by the respected statesmen and former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpaiyee on April 16, 2005 at Raipur. Honorable Governor of Chhattisgarh is the Ex-officio Chancellor of this university and presently, His Excellency Shri Balramji Das Tandon holds this designation. The very first academic session of the university was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh on August 27, 2005. On this occasion, Bhumi Pujan of Kathadih campus was also conducted.

New campus of the university was inaugurated by a Senior Political Leader Nitin Gadkari in a prestigious function organized on September 4, 2010.

The First convocation of the University was held on March 07, 2013. His Holiness

Dalai Lama was the chief guest on the occasion. The governor of Chhattisgarh and Chancellor of the University, H.E. Shekhar Dutt presided over the ceremony. The University has been affiliated to University Grant Commission (UGC) under Section 2 (f). wide Notification No.: F 9-10/2005 (CPP-1) Dated : August 1, 2005.

The University is the member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

To prepare competent professionals and inculcate social values in this, and also inspire them to contribute in the overall development of the nation.

To establish effective synthesis between the concept of 'Global Village' and Indian philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam'.

To develop the University as a national-level institute to offer various courses related to subjects like Journalism, Electronic Media, Mass Communication, Media Management and other disciplines.

To groom competent human resources as per the demands of various media-related fields, by imparting quality media education to the students.

To develop the entire technological set-up in rural and tribal areas for proper communication via research, training and publications.

To highlight issues related to women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes.

To prepare skilled media persons, to take up responsibilities and duties of not only media field but in other influential spheres of society as well.

To prepare professionals capable of producing evolutionary content in the field of information and communication in a fast developing state like Chhattisgarh. To prepare proficient communicators capable of successfully carrying out responsibilities in not just media but also other areas which influence society.

Research works are also in progress under PhD programme in the University. M.Phil. programme is offered in Mass Communication and Media Studies. In future its scope will be expanded to newer horizons in fields like Media Management, Social Work and Electronic Media.

The University has four Research Chairs and three media fellowships are also been awarded to professional journalists every year to promote research in the field. Executive Council is the highest decision making body of the University. The Vice

Chancellor is the chairman of the Executive Council and the Registrar is the member secretary.

Academic Council is the second highest decision making body of the University. The 11 membered council consists of teachers of the university, and renowned academia and media professionals. The Vice Chancellor is the chairman of the Council whereas the Registrar is the member secretary.

Each teaching department has a separate Board of Studies (BoS) which takes decision on course curriculum. While the department head chairs the meeting of BoS, members consist of teachers of the department, renowned Faculty from other universities.

Teaching faculty is one of the most important units of the University. Besides, many colleges are affiliated to the University that are conducting graduation and post graduation courses in various districts of state. Moreover, the university also offers facilities for carrying out research works. The University has separate departments of journalism, mass communication, advertisement and public relations, electronicmedia, social works and media management. The University Campus is situated in Kathadih of Raipur city.

Other than the daily lectures to impart quality education to the students, the University regularly organizes various types of events to develop professional skills in them and provide them a platform to exhibit their creative talent. The University is also committed to promote education amid weak, backward and poor section of society. Moreover, the University also puts in efforts to ensure participation of various media organizations in state so as to improve the learning and training process for the students.

To provide practical training to the students, advanced facilities like community radio station, well equipped television studio, programme production centre, Mac Lab, Graphics, editing, dubbing, photography, and layout designing skills and Animation lab and other such units have also established in the University. The University has several proposed works of Research and documentation in the fields of Journalism and Mass Communication. The University has a library with good collection of books, journals and magazines on journalism, media, litterateur, contemporary topics and issues. Presently, the reference museum of the University contains manuscripts, books, photos and other literary material of great scholars and educationists.

Age Limit: For graduate courses, the maximum age limit is 22 years as on July 01, 2015

where as for PG courses, the maximum age limit is 27 years as on July 01, 2015. Age relaxation shall be applicable to SC/ST/ OBC candidates of Chhattisgarh and women applicants as per Chhattisgarh government rules.

Reservation: Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/Women/PH candidates shall be done as per Chhattisgarh government rules.

Admission Procedure for P.G. Degree Courswe:

Admission to various PG Degree courses in the University shall be made on the basis of Entrance Test. Candidates shall not be paid any allowances for appearing in the Entrance Test. All student who are interested in taking of admission and fullfil the eligibility criteria must appear for the test on 5th July 2015 at 11.00 am at the university campus Raipur. Students will be given one week time to deposit the fees. The decision of the University shall be final and binding on any dispute relating to admission.

Admission to P.G. Diploma Course :

Admission to the P.G. Diploma Course shall be based on application received in the university. The candidates shall be confirmed about this admission separetely by the university.

Admission to the M.Phil :

Admission to the M.Phil Course shall be based on entrance test. Candidates will be informed separetely about details of the entrance test.

Other Conditions :

Candidates completing any PG programme from the University campus shall not be given admission to any other PG programme in the campus. A candidate shall become ineligible to get admission to regular PG programme in the campus if he/she has already failed in the same PG programme in the campus.

Cancellation of Admission:

Admission of a student shall be cancelled automatically if he/she remains absent for more than one month from the beginning of the academic session without any intimation, even if he/she has already paid all the fees.

Admission can also be cancelled if it is found that the applicant has provided any wrong information, involved in any illegal activities, gross indiscipline, high percentage of absenteeism or failing to deposit fees in time.

Admission Rules

NO RAGGING:

Ragging is completely prohibited in the University Campus. Special anti-ragging rules have been in place to check such activities. To maintain discipline and check ragging activities, a committee has also been constituted.

The University has a central position as a role model for the whole society with its social initiatives. Meeting out the social objectives of 'Universal Brotherhood' holds special significance in the social projects and innovative initiatives of the university. Students get a chance to use their creative energy in the various projects being conducted by the departments in the villages adopted in the vicinity of the University. Along with various governmental and non-governmental organization are notable associates in such initiatives. Prominent Media Organization are also associated in these initiatives.

Social Initiatives

University has many professional organization coming for campus placements. University is also working on a model of industry academia interaction. One such model has been worked out with prominent media organization Network 18.
