BACK TO THE FUTURE: transition with a look ahead and the “vis a tergo” (“a look back”) on all

that came before! The teachings of the masters move via the transfer of experience which means perseverance, loyalty, work, study but also the pleasure of passion, of achievement, of curing, the awareness of having a role, of giving meaning to the medical profession and a service rendered to the community, chosen, in any case, among ideals and projects. All of this has been “transferred” by the masters, in particular in the area of Endoscopy these masters began with “rudimental means” which over time rapidly evolved such that today new technological frontiers are opening truly vast horizons. This event, desired by the young and dedicated principally to them, is meant to focus on two pithy aspects of our profession: openness to research, innovation, experimentation and at the same time the continuity of a basic and solid experience focused on the needs of the ill.

During the two days of the Modena congress we shall look into and learn from the experience of masters such as Dr. G. Bedogni (Reggio Emilia), Prof. N. Soehendra (Hamburg), Prof. C. Williams (London) who from the beginning of the 1970s have worked incessantly educating generations of specialists in Endoscopy and disseminating curiosity and ideas that have been gathered and elaborated by capable professionals. These professionals have become reference points in Italy and abroad and are members of the Faculty present at this event. All will participate in constructive debate and dialogue with their younger colleagues who are well in touch with important and sometimes still controversial challenges in their field.

Furthermore, there will surely be fresh and lively confrontation between teachers and youth that will be conducted with up to date “journalistic” techniques so that it feels less conventional. The topics are of great interest and the session on New Technology will surely touch the fantasy and imagination of those who have the pleasure to be there.

Not to neglect the venue of the congress which is the busy city of Modena, known around the world for its important symbols and contributions such Pavarotti and Ferrari, to name a few. Modena offers a culinary tradition second to none with its typical products such as balsamic vinegar and fine salamis. We hope to see you there!
