ATA 100 SPECIFICATION

General

The aim of the ATA 100 specification is to standardize the format and data or-ganization of each aircraft manufacturers manuals and also between manuals. The use of standards minimizes cost and effort by the operator‘s personnel. In accordance to that fact, many AIRBUS INDUSTRIE manuals and docu-ments follow the ATA 100 specification.

Documentation which follow the ATA 100 format: – AMM (Aircraft Maintenance Manual)

FUNCTIONAL ITEM NUMBER (FIN)

Description

Equipment on Airbus Industrie aircraft is identified with what is known as a FUNCTIONAL ITEM NUMBER (FIN) which is not an ATA 100 specification re-quirement.

Used in numerous manuals, it facilitates quick location and identification of equipment, circuits and systems.

CUSTOMIZATION

Description

The Technical Documentation consists of

customized manuals and non-customized manuals:

S a customized manual:

contains only the information applicable to a particular airline or a group of operators.

S a non-customized manual

contains information applicable to all airlines for one aircraft type.

A non-customized manual is called GENERIC if the information is applicaple to all aircraft models / types / series. (I.e.: all AIRBUS types)

A non-customized manual is called ENVELOPE when the information is ap-plicaple to only one specific aircraft model / type / serie. (I.e.: A320 only)

REVISION

Description

There are two types of revisions: normal and temporary S normal revisions are calendar scheduled

S Temporary revisions are used for urgent information requiring immediate attention or advanced notification.

They are on yellow pages or on yellow diskettes.

FLIGHT CREW OPERATING MANUAL (FCOM)

Description

The FCOM consists of 4 volumes, covering system descriptions, flight prepara-tion, flight operations and flight management.

Volume 3 includes operations engineering bulletins (OEB), issued as the need arises to advise operators of revised or new, but significant, technical and pro-cedural information between normal revisions of the manual.

It is normally the consequence of a detected defect or abnormal behaviour of the aircraft or of its systems.

FLIGHT MANUAL (FM)

Description

The FM covers aircraft operating limitations, emergency and standard operat-ing procedures, performance and supplements, includoperat-ing the Configuration Deviation List (CDL), abnormal operations and regulatory differences.

It also includes CAT2/CAT3 landing capability equipment lists and require-ments.

NOTE: THE FM IS APPROVED BY THE AIRWORTHINESS AUTHORITIES.

MASTER MINIMUM EQUIPMENT LIST (MMEL)

Description

The MMEL provides the necessary information to operators for definition of their Minimum Equipment List (MEL).

The MMEL specifies the components or systems which may be inoperative and the associated operational or special procedures which allow the aircraft to be cleared for flight.

The MMEL refers the user to the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) for the manitenance procedures.

AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL (AMM)

Description

The Aircraft Maintenace Manual provides information to enable maintenance personnel to properly service, repair, replace, adjust, inspect and check equip-ment and systems of the aircraft, normally performed on the ramp or in the maintenance hangar.

The AMM contains information about inspection and maintenance of aircraft structure (except repair).

The AMM also contains the necessary data to cover scheduled maintenance procedures prescribed by the Maintenance Review Board (MRB) report, the Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL) and the Configuration Deviation List (CDL).

NOTE: THE TIME LIMITS AND MAINTENANCE CHECKS CHAPTER IS

APPROVED BY THE AIRWORTHINESS AUTHORITIES.

ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG (IPC)

POWER PLANT ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG (PPIPC)

Description

The IPC identifies and illustrates all line replaceable parts and units of the air-craft, excluding power plant/nacelle, which are separately covered by the Power Plant Illustrated Parts Catalog (PPIPC).

The IPC/PPIPC is a companion document to the AMM, as it contains informa-tion on all the parts for which maintenance practices are provided including components and replaceable parts or items of the component.

It provides information such as part numbers, location etc. For all individual LRU’s such as bulbs, sockets seals, bearing, screws relays etc and/or parts where maintenance practices allow replacement of the components or parts, rather than replacement of the next higher assembly.

ADDITIONAL CROSS REFERENCE TABLES (ACRT)

Description

The Additional Cross Reference Tables (ACRT) is part of the IPC.

The ACRT provides optional part numbers, Functional Item Numbers to Part Numbers, local manufacturer, fuses and lamps data.

MAINTENANCE PLANNING DOCUMENT (MPD)

Description

The MPD includes all mandatory and recommended procedures, maintenance tests and servicing to be carried out on the aircraft at approved intervals.

The Maintenance Review Board Report (MRBR) is used as a basis for approval. The MPD provides the operator with the data needed to develop or modify a scheduled maintenance program.

The A319/A320/A321 Maint. Plan. Document compromises two volumes: S Volume 1:

Contains the AIRBUS INDUSTRIE recommended maintenace program ef-fective for A319, A320 and A321 aircraft models.

Initially based on the Maintenance Review Board Report (MRBR), it is kept updated by the additions/amendments of tasks and/or intervals arising from:

- New effectiveness assessment - In service experience

- Development in technical status of A319, A320 and A321 models. It provides airlines with planning information for establishing their own main-tenance program.

S Volume 2:

Contains additional information supporting and illustrating the A319/A320/A321 maintenance program.

Description

The SRM contains descriptive information for identification and repair of the aircraft primary and secondary structure.

The SRM includes an alphanumerical index list (SRM-NI), with all part numbers and corresponding ATA references, figures, configuration and item numbers.

Description

The TEM provides information about specific ground support equipment/tools required for the accomplishment of maintenance tasks such as servicing, fault isolation, testing and repair of airframe, engine, components and accessories.

It also provides information for special tools and equipment required for air-frame and engine overhaul. The TEM does not include standard airport equip-ment or standard tools.

TROUBLE SHOOTING MANUAL (TSM)

Description

The TSM provides comprehensive and systematic procedural coverage of air-craft warnings (ECAM, EFIS, LOCAL), malfunction reports (crew, maintenance) and CFDS messages to identify, confirm, isolate and repair aircraft malfunc-tions.

IT is designed to provide a quick and accurate means of isolating faults and gives recommendations for actions to be taken in order to reduce aircraft down time.

WIRING DIAGRAM MANUAL (WDM)

Description

The WDM consists of three manuals: S The Aircraft Schematic Manual (ASM) S The Aircraft Wiring Manual (AWM) S The Aircraft Wiring List (AWL)

The WDM provides the electrical circuit information for service maintenance, troubleshooting and repair ofn the aircraft electrical systems.

The ASM uses block diagrams and functional schematics to describe the air-craft electrical and electronic systems.

The AWM provides detailed diagram information on the aircraft electrical and electronic wiring connections.

The AWL lists all electrical and electronic wiring connections, provides related maintenance data and includes the equipment list.

Description

ADRES allows the retrieval of the AMM and the IPC on a stand alone PC through 3 CD-Roms.

Description

CAATS is a software tool on one CD-Rom that allows the retrieval of the TSM and the AMM associated tasks – It also includes IPC data and the other Airbus technical data.

CAATS objectives:

S To bring on-board the aircraft information needed for trouble shooting. S To assist technicians in finding trouble shooting procedures.

S To limit the number of manuals for trouble shooting

S To improve access time to relevant information, compared with paper. S To provide the right information at the right time.

S Designed to be used on a portable PC on-board an aircraft.

The ABM describes the procedure to build-up the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), as delivered to a „ready to install“ state to AIRBUS INDUSTRIE aircraft. This Manual is specific to each APU Model.

The AC defines the aircraft characteristics for general airport planning required by the airlines, the airport authorities and consultant.

AIRCRAFT RECOVERY MANUAL (ARM)

The ARM provides information for planning and conducting recovery opera-tions. It describes equipment and tooling requirements, procedures for lifting, shoring and moving disabled aircraft.

The ARM is aimed at airlines, airport authorities and emergency units, involved in recovery operations.

CARGO LOADING SYSTEM MANUAL (CLS)

The CLS is an operational manual providing additional information and instruc-tions to the operators of the cargo loading systems.

The AMM covers cargo loading system maintenance; the CLS manual specifi-cally addresses operating instructions.

The MFP brings together, in one volume, information on aircraft dimensions, weights and other pertinent data for long term planning of ground handling, ramp servicing, line maintenance, repair, overhaul and functional testing for structure and system components.

NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING MANUAL (NTM)

The NTM contains descriptive information and specific instructions for non-de-structive testing of primary and secondary aircraft structure (power plant ex-cluded).

The power plant and component non-destructive testing information is provided by separate NDT manuals for each component. If the required tests are not extensive, they can be found in a specific page block of the CMM.

POWER PLANT BUILD-UP MANUAL (PPBM)

The PPBM provides instructions for the installation of a quick engine change kit on a bare engine.

STANDARDS MANUAL (SM)

Description

The SM provides information of design and product standards, established and approved by the aircraft manufacturer.

The SM also contains a list of qualified suppliers, proprietary parts and inter-changeable standards.

Standards manual supplement 1 (SM-S1) is a cross reference list for alterna-tive fasteners that can be used in place of the original used in manufacturing or the ones referenced in AIRBUS INDUSTRIE repair instructions, structural re-pair manual or service bulletins.

Standards manual supplement 2 (SM-S2) North America is an optional suppli-ers list. The purpose of the SM-S2 is to assist Airlines who prefer to purchase their standard parts in the USA or Canada.

Standards manual - Part 3 references the original standard part number with the vendor part number and the supplier CAGE/NATO code.

ALL OPERATOR TELEX (AOT)

Description

The AOT is used to launch an urgent action, which is required to be taken by the operators concerned, due to an event/finding which has implications on the airworthiness of the affected AIRBUS INDUSTRIE aircraft, or serious opera-tional impact for the operator.

The AOT is used in place of the „ALERT SERVICE BULLETIN“ to provide the fastest possible means of communication.

The technical information contained in the AOT is approved under the authority of (DGAC) design organization approval (certificate C01).

The content of an AOT may later be rendered mandatory by the airworthiness authorities through an Airworthiness Directive (AD) or a „Consigne de Naviga-bility“ (CN)

Description

OPERATIONS ENGINEERING BULLETIN (OEB)

Description

The OEB is used to advise operators of revised or new significant technical information, flight crew procedures or limitations, required for safe flight opera-tion.

There are two categories of OEBs distinguished by a color code: S White paper is used for normal OEBs.

S Orange paper is used for what is called „the red OEB“, issued to highlight significant impact or safe aircraft operation.

The OEB is not airworthiness approved. It is issued on a temporary basis and will be cancelled by the application of a modification/service bulletin.

SERVICE BULLETIN (SB)

Description

The Service Bulletin is a document used to notify the operators of modifica-tions, component substitumodifica-tions, special inspections or checks to be done on their aircraft for safe operation.

Description

The SIL is used to provide technical information of a non-urgent character: S To highlight information already incorporated, or scheduled to be

S Information on general issues or policies.

The Service Information Letter is strictly used for installation and does not call for physical tasks to be performed on the aircraft.

TECHNICAL FOLLOW-UP (TFU)

Description

The Technical Follow-up is used to provide operators, on regular basis, with comprehensive information on technical product improvements, including sta-tus and availability follow-up.

A separate TFU is allocated to technical issues identified during flight test or in-service operation covering safety, malfunctions reported several times and maintenance difficulties.

The Technical Follow-up is an engineering oriented one-page synthesis docu-ment with monthly updates.

NOTE: THE TFU IS NOT APPROVED BY THE AIRWORTHINESS

AU-THORITIES.

The Status of a TFU can be as follws: S TFU open

The engineering investigations is in progress S TFU pending

The technical solution is fully identified.Drawings and documents are being prepared.

S TFU closed

All Documents (service bulletins, revisions to technical publications) are re-leased to the operator or the issue is identified as „no further action“. S TFU in abeyance

There is no more engineering activity taking place. The issue is of minor consequence and does not require a modification. It is not processed further until the modification is bought by an operator or can be introduced in a fu-ture standard.

COMPUTER ASSISTED AIRCRAFT TROUBLE SHOOTING (CAATS)

CAATS is a software tool on one CD-Rom that allows the retrieval of the TSM and the AMM associated tasks – It also includes IPC data and the other Airbus technical data.

CAATS objectives:

S To bring on-board the aircraft information needed for trouble shooting. S To assist technicians in finding trouble shooting procedures.

S To limit the number of manuals for trouble shooting

S To improve access time to relevant information, compared with paper. S To provide the right information at the right time.
