Director
In the five decades since its inception in 1961, the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad has evolved into a world renowned institution of excellence in management education. The Institute has been consistently ranked by the Economist among the top 100 business schools globally. It is also the first school in India to be accredited by EQUIS. The Institute has groomed, India’s outstanding business leaders & academics, and stands at the pinnacle of management education in India and the World. The two year Post Graduate Program of the Institute (PGP) is the Institute’s flagship program. The program has been ranked in the top 10 programmes by the Financial Times among the Masters Programs in Management globally. The Program has graduated over 8500 students of exceptional caliber with outstanding entrepreneurial and leadership abilities. These graduates have consistently distinguished themselves by occupying key positions in several of the world’s leading organizations and are playing a significant role in transforming organizations to the ever changing requirements of global context.
The success of the Institute and its graduates lies in the unique practice oriented pedagogy used for the curriculum. The Institute offers around 110 elective courses in the second year of the program from all disciplines & functional areas of management and new courses continue to be offered each year in response to the changing needs of business, government & society. Students are encouraged to develop not only their analytical skills, but also to take a holistic perspective on situations, with a strong focus on implementability of the solutions in real life.
Outside the classroom, the students engage in several activities to develop a well-rounded persona. These activities include Confluence that has emerged as the biggest business event organized by any business school in the country with participation from many foreign business schools, Chaos that has emerged as a much sought after cultural event that show-cases upcoming talent, and Insight, that has been attracting wide participation
from the Industry to assess consumer preferences.
With increasing focus on internationalization, IIMA has developed relationships with major business schools in the world, such as the Graduate School of Business at Chicago, Stern Business School, HEC School of Management, University of Bocconi & NUS Singapore, through student and faculty exchange programs. Programme
Selected through a highly rigorous admission procedure, participants of IIMA’s PGP go through a thoroughly challenging and enriching academic experience during their two years on campus. The programme constantly strives to remain at the forefront of modern management education, instilling in its students values of teamwork, a global focus, an ability to innovate and above all, an unflinching quest for excellence. The curriculum exposes students to a number of real life situations and contemporary analytical tools that have are delivered through the case method of pedagogy. The two month summer internship at the end of the first year gives students a chance to apply their theoretical knowledge, while gaining firsthand experience of working in an organization in a managerial capacity. The PGP class represents a rich gamut of sociocultural and educational backgrounds, in addition to a healthy mix of fresh graduates and candidates with prior work experience. Participants of IIMA’s PGP display great clarity and focus when it comes to charting their career path. Selected through a highly rigorous admission procedure, Quest for Excellence is the underlying theme of all that we do at IIMA. We are so driven by this that despite our high international ranking for the Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP, ranked 10th globally in Masters in Management courses by FT), it is our constant endeavour to make it better.
The participants of PGP, our flagship MBA program, go through a curriculum which is very rigorous and demanding both in terms of time and effort. The PGP leverages the potential capabilities of participants by challenging them to achieve beyond their best. Our PGP participants are well qualified to contribute and add value to the organization right from the beginning as the programme is practice-oriented with a thrust on managerial decision-making.
