IELTS - Academic writing tips and Information The IELTS Academic writing module of the IELTS test consists of two activities: Task 1 and Task 2.
IELTS candidates are given 60 minutes to complete both tasks. The writing tasks are on a variety of subjects and are chosen for their suitability for candidates entering university,
In Writing Task 1, IELTS candidates are asked to describe information that is usually presented in the form of a graph, table or diagram. They must write at least 150 words and the writing task should be done in 20 minutes. Task 1 test students' ability to interpret graphic data - diagrams and graphs - and describe and explain. Students are given graphic or pictorial information and have to write a description of this information. Usually bar charts, line graphs, pie charts and tables are given for this task. However, an object, or series of pictures or diagrams, or a flow chart which needs to be described may also be presented. Students may also need to describe a process or explain how
something works.

It consists of an oral interview between a candidate and IELTS trained examiner. The interview lasts for approximately 11- 14 minutes.
What will the examiner listen for?
Pronunciation - This is only important if it gets in the way of communication. Speak clearly and you will be all right. Vocabulary - Some students try to improve their speaking score by using difficult words. However, using words incorrectly will LOWER your score! Avoid using difficult words or expressions unless you are sure of how to use them.
Sentence Structure - Using better sentences is the best way to improve your speaking score in a short time, because using better sentences is how we COMMUNICATE.
Fluency and Coherence - Of course fluency is very important but it is useless if you are not understood (if you are not "coherent"). You do NOT have to speak quickly, but too many hesitations are bad.
TEACHING STRATEGY
Our company teacher should focus on teaching IELTS for only two sections, these are writing test and speaking test.
1.
Teacher can divide and make schedule for everyday topic, like you should teach the students how to answer and write appropriately, It’ll better if you let them practicing their speaking ability in a limited time like in real examination, as well as teaching them how to write accurately2.
Teacher should teach the student about answering properly Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You can have conversation on them, correcting and giving suggestion for the best answer. On Tuesday and Thursdayapplication of learning should be done, whatever the students learn from your previous topic, he or she should apply it especially on conversation.
Wrong sentences= right sentences. Usually the students review all their mistakes and compare them into right ones.
There are a lot of ways on how you can correct your student, first, listen to the student’s answer let them express their opinions, while listening teacher can type all the mistakes that their students committed as well as the correct sentences, after that they can explain and let the student read the correct sentence. Teacher can emphasize and discuss the correction after the student’s answer. Another way is that, teacher can emphasize and discuss before the end of the lesson. Each teacher has its own strategy just do something that you think it’ll be easier for you.
4. Teacher should teach the pattern of answering question specially on speaking test, in writing test. As you can see above there’s different score or band scale given to the candidates, you can also give them score for their everyday performance, teacher should explain how the students can obtain a high score based on the result of examination. You should also be aware of the time limit and let them do and practice like in real examination so they will be familiarized on the nature of exam.
4.
IELTS Speaking Test consists of 3 parts; first part is about candidate’s background and information.( familiar topic) teacher should teach them to answer basic question within the time limit. Most of questions are wh questions (what, why, when, where, how).Part 2 and 3 are about candidate’s experience general question, the question requires the candidates to describe a certain thing like place, person, things and others. In this type of test there’s a corresponding pattern wherein teacher should teach the appropriate answer through pattern.
THE IELTS ACADEMIC SPEAKING TEST TUTORIAL
The IELTS Academic Speaking test is the shortest of the components of the IELTS test - only 11 to 14 minutes. In this short time you have to convince the examiner who will be speaking with you of your level of English.
The IELTS Academic Speaking Test is the same for both the Academic and General Training modules. The test is conducted with 1 examiner and 1 candidate. The Speaking test is recorded. The Speaking Test is divided into 3 sections:
Section 1 Section 1 begins with some general introductory questions. This is followed by some questions
on personal information similar to the type of questions one would ask when meeting someone for the first time. Finally the examiner asks a series of questions of 2 topics of general interest. (4 - 5 minutes)
Section 2 Section 2 is a monologue (1 person speaking) by the candidate. The examiner will give the
candidate a card with a subject and a few guiding questions on it. The student must talk for 1 to 2
minutes on this subject. The examiner decides on the exact length. The student has an optional 1 minute in order to prepare for his talk and is provided with some paper and a pencil in order to make some brief notes. After the candidate's talk the examiner will ask 1 or 2 brief questions in order to finish off the section. (3 - 4 minutes)
Section 3 Here the examiner will ask some more questions generally related to the subject spoken about
in section 2. These questions will be more demanding and require some critical analysis on the part of the candidate. (4 - 5 minutes)
