SETTING THE METER :

-Before putting the instrument in service –

 It has to be programmed for CT & PT ratio.

 To ensure proper communication, set the correct –

• The unit ID.

• The Baud rate.

 Also ensure the Auxiliary Power Supply (rated 90V – 250V AC/DC).

To program the METER for the above parameters, 04 keys are provided viz. PROGRAM key PR G, UP Key

,DOWN key

& the ENTER Key

1) First connect the rated Auxiliary Supply with correct polarity & switch ‘ON’ the instrument.

2 ) P re ss in g t he PR G key, ‘2000’ will be displayed. Press the

key to set ‘2006’, which is the password of the unit & common to all the units.

3) N ow Press th e Key. The unit will display SET CTR . Again press the KEY to enter the desired CT primary. Now press the

keys to set the CT primary value. CT primary can be set between 100-2000A in steps of 1A. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the Key. The unit’s CT primary is now set.

4) N ow Pre ss the Key & press the

key. . The unit will display SET PT. Again press the KEY to enter the desired PT primary. Now press the

keys to set the PT primary value. PT primary can be set between 11KV-220KV in steps of 1KV. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the Key. The unit’s PT primary is now set.

key to set the unit ID. Unit ID can set for any value between 1 to 250. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the Key. The unit’s ID is now set & the unit will again display UNIT ID.

key to set the baud rate. The baud rate can set for any standard values of 19.20, 38.40, or 9600. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the key . The unit’s BAUD is now set & the unit will again display ‘BAUD’.

key to save the set values & quit. If you don’t want to save the values & want to quit without saving, press the

key and the unit will display ‘ QUIT’. Press the

key to quit without saving. 9) Now the Instrument is set & ready to put into service. Switch OFF the Power Supply & connect the

CT & PT secondary correctly. Switch ON the power supply & the instrument will continuously display the set parameters.

10) The set values are stored in non-volatile memory & are retained indefinitely even in absence of  Auxiliary Power Supply.

MODBUS Function DETAILS:

-The output of ACCORD make Multi-Function Transducer Model MFM-02 is through RS-485 Communication port & uses the MODBUS RTU Protocol. The output can be directly given to a SCADA system or any other Data Acquisition system, operating on the same Protocol.

The MODBUS protocol generates the format for the master’s query & places it on the device address as well as on the function code defining the requested action, data to be sent and on the error-checking field. The protocol also constructs the slave’s response message. This message also contains fields confirming the action to be taken, any data that is to be returned, and the error-checking field.

If an error occurs in receipt of the message or if the slave is not able to perform the requested action, then the slave will construct an error message and will send it as its response.

The interface (connection) between the Data Acquisition system and the transducer is established using twisted pair screened wire & all +ve & -ve terminals are multi-drop connected. Ensure proper earth connection to avoid any possibility of loop currents.

Ensure matching of impedances of the termination load and that of the wire at both ends of the line. The maximum length of RS-485 network is limited to 3900 feet (1200 meters) & the maximum number of transducers that can be connected is limited to 31 .

The unique addresses of each MFM-02 can be set to any value between 1 and 250. The format for each byte in RTU mode is as follows.

Coding system : 8-bit binary, hexadecimal 0-9, A-F

Two hexadecimal characters are contained in each 8-bit field of the message Function Code : 03 for read & 06 for write.

Data Format : 32 bit or 16 bit as mentioned in the table below. Most significant byte first. E rr or ch ec ki ng fi el d : 2 by te CR C (c ycl ic al re du nd an cy ch ec k) .

Bits per byte : 1 start bit 8 data bits
