revolutionary 1Torch
™
plasma torch with
the ATC™ (Advanced Torch Connector)
quick disconnect, as well as new Arc start
technology that eliminates electronic
interference and provides optimal starting
every time . The 1Torch
™
can also be
retrofitted to virtually all existing plasma
cutting systems on the market.
Built to stand up to rugged environments
the Cutmaster
™
units are tough and
reliable. All power sources have wraparound
roll bars to protect them during
transportation and whilst on the job. An
advanced powder coat finish provides
scratch and mark resistance to the case
surface.
So read on for more information on how
Thermal Dynamics
®Cutmaster
™
Systems
can revolutionise your plasma cutting and
gouging requirements.
The complete CUTMASTER
™range is engineered and tested to the highest
standards of safety and reliability for plasma cutting equipment. CUTMASTER
™units are designed to stand up to the toughest environments and continue
to provide precise, reliable cutting power.
Built for Heavy Duty Operation
The CUTMASTER™ range are designed
with high duty cycles, tropical proofed
electronics and IP23 rating. The roll
cage protects the controls, torch
connection and air regulator.
Auto Pilot Restart
In Auto Pilot Restart mode, the operator has continuous operation without having
to re-trigger the torch switch. Auto pilot restart comes standard with all CUTMASTER™
systems for easy, quick cutting on expanded metal.
Start Technology
CUTMASTER™ start technology
eliminates electronic interference
that can occur with other designs.
The 1Torch technology provides
quick, reliable starts, a strong
pilot arc to penetrate rust and
paint, and the ability to cut
expanded metal quickly & easily.
ATC™ Connection
The torch can be quickly
changed, no tools required.
Protective Interlock Circuit
A new protective interlock circuit
in addition to traditional
Parts-in-Place circuitry disables the power
supply if the torch consumable
parts are incorrectly assembled.
1Torch™ with ATC™ Quick Disconnect
The CUTMASTER™ range is equipped
with the 1Torch and an ATC™ Quick
Disconnect.
Rugged Case Design
The CUTMASTER™ is built for hard
outdoor use as a portable plasma
cutter. The innovative case design
is the result of extensive stress
testing and field evaluations. The
wrap around roll bar protects the
case from damage resulting from
shocks and collisions. The powder
coat finish provides a harder, more
resistant surface for protection
against scratches & marks.
The CUTMASTER™ 81 Plasma Cutting system includes, as
standard equipment, the revolutionary 1Torch™ universal
plasma cutting torch and the easy- to-use ATC™ (Advanced
Torch Connector) Quick Disconnect. All the advantages of
1Torch™ combined with proven Thermal Dynamics
®reliability
and performance make CUTMASTER™ 81 the new standard
for flexibility, performance and value.
The CUTMASTER 81 is designed to serve the 20mm and below
cutting market. True to Thermal Dynamics' tradition of quality

When you need an excellent, reliable performer for cutting metal,
CUTMASTER™ 151 answers the call. Designed to handle the heaviest
fabrication, maintenance, and manufacturing jobs, this robust 100 amp
system delivers excellent cutting results on a wide range of metal from
thin gauge to 38mm thick. The inverter-based system utilises proven
CUTMASTER™ technology and operates on three-phase input power
for maximum energy efficiency and low cost operation.
Standard on every system is Thermal Dynamics
®exclusive 1Torch™
with the unique built-in ATC™ quick disconnect for fast process
changes. This torch is comfortable to hold, has excellent front end parts
visibility, and provides clean, dross free cuts.
Cutting, piercing, and trimming are fast and easy with no damage to
the front end parts. Special 1Torch™ technology eliminates high
frequency starting and automatic tip saver circuitry supports better
parts life. The arc remains constant even on expanded metal or grating
and is strong enough to cut directly through paint and rust. The
finished piece requires very little clean up and is virtually weld-ready,
saving time and money.

SureLok™ Electrode Technology
The innovative, patented electrode
self-locking mechanism eliminates
the need for an installation tool
and ensures that the electrode and tip will be in perfect alignment.
Both the electrode and tip are stationary which results in a well
defined arc and precise cuts. This perfect alignment also means
longer tip and electrode life, reducing operating costs.
Start Cartridge
This unique design allows the pilot arc
to start without moving consumable parts,
resulting in better parts life & cut performance.
Precision Engineered Torch Tips
1Torch introduces a completely new tip
technology. Each tip is uniquely tuned
to optimise cut performance at its rated
cutting current. The result is precision gas management, longer
consumable parts life and better cut performance across the entire range
of 1Torch tips.
Two Choices in Shield Cups
We offer two styles of shield cups
to suit your cutting style:
•
An Extended Tip for greater visibility,
control and precision drag cutting at
low power.
•
A Protected Tip for on-the-plate drag
cutting at high power up to 80 amps.

Tuning a MIG machine requires some practice by the operator, the welding
Power Source having two control settings that have to balance. These are
the wirespeed control and the voltage control switches. The welding current
is determined by the wirespeed control, the current will increase with
increased wirespeed, resulting in a shorter arc. Less wirespeed will reduce
the current and lengthen the arc. Increasing the welding voltage hardly
alters the welding current level, but lengthens the arc. By decreasing the
voltage, a shorter arc is obtained with little change in welding current.
When changing to a different electrode wire diameter, different control
settings are required. A thinner electrode wire needs more wire speed to
achieve the same current level.
A satisfactory weld cannot be obtained if the wirespeed and voltage switch
settings are not adjusted to suit the electrode diameter and dimensions of
the workpiece. If the wirespeed is too high for the welding voltage,
“stubbing” will occur as the wire dips into the molten pool and does not
melt. Welding in these conditions normally produces a poor weld due to
lack of fusion. If however, the welding voltage is too high, large drops will
form on the end of the electrode wire, causing splatter. The correct setting
of the voltage and wirespeed can be seen in the shape of the weld deposit
and heard by a smooth regular arc sound.
Position of MIG Torch: The angle of the
MIG torch to the weld has an effect
on the width of the weld run.
Torch Travel Speed: Speed at which a weld
travels influences the width of the weld
and penetration of the welding run.
Electrode Stick Out: The electrode wire stick out from the MIG torch
nozzle should be between 2-5mm. This distance may vary depending on the
type of joint that is being welded.
Deposition Rate: Weld metal deposition rate is proportional to current
density. Current density is defined as the current per cross sectional area of
the electrode wire and is normally expressed as amps per mm
2. The
following table shows this: 0.9mm & 1.2mm wire deposition rate.
Electrode Wire
Current
Current

Density
Rate (kg/hour)

This demonstrates that where the upper limit of current is limited by
machine capacity and duty cycle, higher deposition rates and therefore
greater productivity will be achieved by using smaller electrode wire. The
CIGWELD MIG welders are particularly efficient with the 0.9mm steel wire
in spray transfer mode. The savings from decreased welding time will more
than cover the small cost penalty of the smaller electrode wire sizes. 0.9mm
wire costs about 3% more than 1.2mm, but is deposited about 15% faster.
Penetration composition using the same current (200A) for both electrodes.
Higher current density (or smaller diameter wire) also gives deeper
penetration as shown above.
