Our Lady of Hope Parish Family,
Imagine a world in which one could remember only the activities of the present day (today) and one day previous (yesterday). On one hand, it would simplify our lives and unclutter our thought processes. But, in the long run, it would also rob us of so much that we know is precious and valuable about life and our relationships. Memory, a gift from God, by its very composition is a two edged sword. We must take the bad/undesirable with the good/pleasant, always looking for the presence of God to help us. It is the lot of all humankind.
Sacred Scripture makes mention of Mary's storage of memories within her heart and, by association, her reflection upon them in prayer. The month in which we now find ourselves has invited and continues to invite us to enter into prayerful reflection, communally and in private.
We began November by looking toward a most desirous day- a day of Resurrection and entry into God's eternal kingdom, evidenced in the lives of saints of ancient and modern days. We next shifted direction as we focused upon those whom we've known and loved in their/our lifetime but who, after leaving this earthly existence, are in the process of purification for Heaven. Our uniting in heart and voice at the Masses of Remembrance helped to ease the pain inherent in separation and loss, and to aid our beloved deceased on their way homeward.
This week, we will join in a national day of thanksgiving in St. Germaine Church at 8 A.M. and St. Gabriel Church at 10 A.M. as well as in our individual homes. Although recent years have been quite difficult for so many, in reflection each of us also has much for which to be thankful.
The very word 'Thanksgiving' is a composite of 2 ordinary words.
Focusing on the first, all are invited to offer thanks for the 27 years of faithful service to our parish by our retiring pastoral associate, Mary Beth Green. Following today's 10:30 A.M. Mass at St. Germaine, there will be a reception in the entrance hall and lobby.
In the latter weeks of the civil calendar year/first weeks of the church year, as we traverse Christ's future and first coming, our hearts are moved by the generosity of the Father's gift of Jesus as Savior. Many seek to imitate so great a spirit of giving by additional acts of charity to those in need in our midst. Among many opportunities, the angel tree in each church foyer or narthex invites our participation. Please see the bulletin for a listing of those who will be helped in so generous a fashion.
Gratefully in Christ,
Fr. Mike

Our Lady of Hope Mission Statement
We, the parish community of Our Lady of Hope, have been called in Baptism to continue the mission of Christ to reveal the reality and beauty of God’s plan of salvation for all.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we believe the Eucharist is the heart and source of our unity. As a Eucharistic people, we deepen our faith and build our community in love through education, spiritual renewal, and stewardship. We exemplify our love by reaching out to those in need in the spirit of justice, charity, and service. We pledge, under the mantle of Our Lady of Hope, to preserve our legacy for future generations and commit ourselves to welcoming all as we live the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Our Lady of Hope Parish
Books of Remembrance
November is the month we are called in a special way to remember our loved ones who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection.
During November, Our Lady of Hope Parish will have a Book of Remembrance at each worship site. You are welcome to write your loved ones names in the Books, regardless of when they died.
The Books of Remembrance remains in each church for the month of November. The books are a tangible reminder for us to pray for all the faithful departed who are alive and with God for all eternity. This is God’s promise to us; and we respond to God’s promise by remembering, celebrating and believing.
St. Francesco Antonio Fasani | Feast Day November 27
St. Francesco Antonio Fasani (1681 – 1742) lived his whole life as a loving, devout, and atoning man. He entered the Conventual Franciscans in 1695, and 10 years later taught philosophy to younger friars, served as guardian of his friary, and eventually became provincial minister. When his term of office ended, St. Francesco became master of novices and finally pastor in his hometown of Lucera.
Known throughout his various ministries as being loving, devout, and penitential, he was also a well-known confessor and preacher. St. Francesco was a loyal friend of the poor and worked tirelessly to find ways to support them. He was a mystic with such a profound prayer life and supernatural gifts that he was known to levitate during prayer. He was canonized in 1986 by Pope John Paul II.

Inspiration for the week
God is wonderfully and surprisingly creative! He turns the tables on our understanding of what it means to be a king by sending us a king who embraces poverty, insults, suffering, ridicule, rejection, and even death. This is our king.
Jesus is not the king of prestige or grandeur but the king who brings light to darkness, hope to despair, sinners to mercy, and new life out of death. God dances on, around, in and through all of the silliness and ugliness of the world bringing all of creation to the eternal dance of new life and hope.
Whether we accept it now or hope one day we will, Christ is king of the universe. Christ is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. Every human being, even those who scorned and rejected him and failed to see him in the least of our brothers and sisters will look upon him.
Only those who understand truth will understand we are on this awesome universal journey to Christ. It is a journey of surprises but also a journey of enlightenment when we will one day see and experience with the deepest joy our being in Christ. We will be restless until we are all one day together united in Christ our King.

Rites in our Parish
Last weekend during the St. Gabriel’s Vigil Mass and the 9:00 AM Mass at Nativity, 64 Our Lady of Hope Parish seventh grade students participated in a Rite of Enrollment ceremony.
This marked the beginning of a two year
“journey of faith” for those in the Confirmation formation process.
This weekend at the Mass there will be the Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming ceremony recognizing the decision of Nicholas Zallo and Chloe Zheng in the RCIC program, and Heather Cramer and Cody Schoenberger who are in the RCIA program to become full members of the Catholic faith.
In the months to come, we asks for your prayers and support for the three Catechumens and one candidate as they prepare for full initiation through Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
The Church is Alive! We are very blessed because we have programs established for the purpose of offering life through the sacraments and we give thanks to the Holy Spirit that we have a large number of participants in these programs.
AA Our Lady of Hope Parish Giving Trees AA
Freely you have received, freely give .
†Matthew 10:8
We are putting up the Angel Trees.
They may look like other Christmas trees but they are very special because they are decorated with the name tags with gift requests to help assist with the needs of four organizations Our Lady of Hope Parish will support during the Advent Season.
You can select a gift tag from any of the trees, or the items listed in the write-ups included in this article, then return the gifts either with the tag or identifying organization to any of our churches. For additional clarification please call Carol at 412-551-8984.
Merry Christmas Saint Joseph House of Hospitality

Lifeline is a crisis intervention, pro-life service, which offers many types of assistance to mothers and babies in need. As a former volunteer with this organization, Suzan Slezak, Early Childhood/
Preschool Program Director has a special allegiance and respect for the work being done.
During the season of Advent, large gift boxes will be located near the Baptismal Font in the front of St.
Gabriel Church if you would like to participate! No need to gift-wrap individual items. diapers, sleepers, crib sheets, receiving blankets, onesies, bottles, socks, booties, baby wash, infant bath towels, baby wipes and bibs are especially needed at this time. We believe helping mothers and babies in crisis is a truly meaningful way to commemorate the birth of JESUS!

The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Pittsburgh and Morgantown are focused on keeping families with sick children together and near the care and resources they need. These kids may have been released recently from the hospital but need to stay close for care or may be a sibling of a child in the hospital. When a child has a milestone (celebrating their birthday in the house, their last chemo treatment or their discharge day) they are given the special privilege of visiting the Toy Forest. A place where only they can go to
.
Help us stock the Toy Forest this holiday season for every child spending time at RMHC. Take a tag from the tree, purchase the item listed and return it to the church with the tag attached.
