How Autism affects me

It affects the way I mix with people and the way I communicate.

It also affects my senses particularly touch and smell.

I like to talk about my favourite subject.

I get angry easily.

I do not like loud noises.

I struggle to write quickly.

I find it difficult to work in noisy classrooms.

I don’t understand a lot of jokes.

It is hard to understand unwritten rules.

I find it hard to start conversations.

I find it difficult in crowded corridors.

(6)

How can other people help me ?

Explain things clearly and simply but remember I am clever!

Give me some space!

I like to have thinking time.

Prepare me for changes.

Give me some hints and tips when it comes to social skills.

Just understand if you see me doing something different like rocking or skipping.

Please remember that I like to sit with the same person in each lesson.

It bothers me when other children in the class are not behaving.

(7)

A Final Thought

Don’t think I am mentally ill.

Autism is not a mental health issue.

I am just wired differently.

(8)

Punctuality

All gates will now be locked at 8.30am including Music door.

Pupils coming to the front gates after this time will need to press the buzzer to gain access. You must go to Main Reception where you will get your mark. Following this the procedure is:

•If you are late 3 times you will receive an Amber

•If you are late 6 times you will be given a Restore session

•If you continue to be late you will be monitored by your Head of Year

and if you get to 20 lates your parents/carers may be prosecuted and receive a fine.

The best plan is ‘Get in in time.’
