INTRODUCTION
Introduction
This document contains all necessary information about installing SATO printer drivers, printer driver components and downloading True Type fonts or Graphics from GalleryMemMaster to SATO printers.
What are GalleryDrivers?
GalleryDrivers present full-featured Windows drivers developed for SATO thermal-transfer printer brands. GalleryDrivers can be used with any Windows application in Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003, but the optimal printing results can only be achieved in combination with the LabelGallery software.
What is SATO Status Monitor?
SATO Status monitor is special utility, with which you can determine the current status of the printer. To get the current status of the printer you should run SATO Status Monitor application, which comes with the printer drivers. The status of the printer can be one of the following: ready, out of paper and similar.
SATO Status Monitor has also integration possibilities. It is possible to connect to it thru ActiveX interface.
All details about this can be found in a separate documentation.
SATO Status Monitor must be closed during the download.
What is SATO Language Monitor?
Language monitor is user-mode DLL that serves two purposes:
It provides a full duplex communication path between the print spooler and bi-directional printers that are capable of providing software-accessible status information.
They add printer control information, such as commands defined by a printer job language, to the data stream.
The language monitor receives the printer’s data stream from the spooler’s print processor. It also modifies the data stream and passes it to the printer’s port monitor.
What is SATO Port monitor?
SATO Port monitor consist of user-mode DLL. It is responsible for providing a communication path between the user-mode print spooler and the kernel-mode port drivers that access I/O port
In SATO Port monitor you also enable the delay setting for the download
.

With this diagram you can exactly imagine how communication between labeling software and printer is managed.
INSTALLATION
How to install GalleryDrivers for thermal transfer printers?
GalleryDrivers are standard Windows drivers, which can be installed using the usual method of driver installation in Windows. In order to make the installation as simple as possible, all GalleryDrivers include a special Install Wizard, which will further simplify the driver installation. Put downloaded self-extractable file in a temporary directory and run it to start the setup procedure.
Use included Install Wizard, which is started automatically, or run Add Printer Wizard from
your Windows (Start/Control Panel/Printers/Add Printer) to install the GalleryDrivers for your
thermal/transfer printer.
GalleryDrivers are true Windows printer drivers and can be used from any standard Windows application (Microsoft Word, Corel Draw, etc.).
Drivers include support for Windows 9X, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003.
How to completely remove GalleryDrivers from your system?
Solution 1: (recommended)
To truly remove printer drivers follow these steps: Open Printers dialog box from Control Panel. Select Server Properties from File menu.
Go to Drivers tab and select the printer driver you want to remove. Click Remove button.
If the printer driver is in use, Windows will not be able to remove it. In this case restart your computer and try again.
You can use the same utility to update the existing version of GalleryDrivers to the newer version. Click Update button, then point to the location of new NiceDrivers.
Solution 2:
After each driver installation a key with the name of the printer and it's settings (including which drivers to use) remains in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\ Environments\WindowsNT x86\Drivers \Version-1\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\ Environments\WindowsNT x86\Drivers \Version-2\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\ Environments\WindowsNT x86\Drivers \Version-3\
The key here is taken from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\ In some cases the same keys can be found in ControlSet002 AND CurrentControlSet. All three need to be regarded as having the same effect on the driver installation.
In this key all printers ever previously installed on this computer remain referenced even if the printer driver was deleted. The "printer" key is the same as the name of the printer in the information file (*.INF) when the driver was installed.
Remove the key from all these registry branches.
Restart the machine to be sure Windows update registry settings.
Install the original printer driver. You will now be able to install original printer driver without any problem. Correct driver files will be used.
DOWNLOAD
GalleryMemMaster as part of LabelGallery True Pro should be used for downloading TrueType
fonts or graphics to printer’s internal memory.
Technical details
GalleryMemMaster features
With LabelGallery MemMaster it is possible to use following features: • Status print
Prints information about the downloaded fonts and graphics files. • Test print
Prints a sample of selected downloaded element. • Download
• Format
This command clears the memory.
Please check tables below to see which feature is enabled for your type of memory card or memory type.
Printer Mode
For each feature in GalleryMemMaster, printer must be in appropriate mode. Some features require that printer is in download mode and some not.
Printer mode can be set with DIP switches directly on the printer. For correct DIPswitch combination please refer to the printer documentation.
To find out what is the appropriate mode for the feature you want to use please check tables below.
Delay setting (timeout)
With delay setting you define when printer will send acknowledge back to the computer about the successful download.
In case that delay setting is shorter than complete download time then acknowledgement will be sent before download to the printer is completed and this will cause uncompleted download, which will be useless.
Fact is that delay setting must be longer than the download time.
Download time depends of the amount of data, which has to be transferred. More data you have longer delay setting must be. Some features do not require enabled delay settings. Please check
Delay setting must be enabled in the SATO port monitor.

Requirements for successful download
To ensure proper working of download procedure, please ensure following requirements. • For proper download Bi-directional parallel cable must be used. The mark for the
cable is IEEE 1284
• GalleryDrivers for your SATO printer must be installed. • Status monitor should be off.
• Make sure that printer is connected with the SATO port monitor.
• Make sure that only one printer is attached to the SATO port monitor. In case that there are more devices connected to the same port monitor, then download will not work.
• Make sure that no other printer drivers are installed on the same LPT port as SATO port monitor.
• Download delay is not configured properly. Check tables above. • Printer must be in appropriate mode. Check tables above.
• Proper timeout setting for the download in the SATO port monitor must be enabled. Check the tables below to see if this is required for your type of download.
• “Occupy port at all times” setting in the port monitor must be enabled in case you are downloading graphics via LAN interface.
• Verify the Interrupt Request (IRQ) Setting
Under Windows 2000 or Windows XP, your parallel port may not be configured to use an interrupt request (IRQ). You can use the Device Manager to check the interrupt configuration of the parallel port. Go to Start >> Settings >> Control Panels >>
System. Select the "Hardware" tab and launch the Device Manager. Double-click on the "Ports" icon. The parallel port you are using should appear. Right -click on the entry for the parallel port and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu. Choose the "Port Settings" tab. You will see a window like the one shown below.
Under "Filter Resource Method", you should choose "Use any interrupt assigned to the port." Otherwise, the port may refuse to use the interrupt required by the printer.
