Year 2 TIMETABLE (
w.c.22
ndFebruary)
Hi children,
Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely half term and took some time to relax, play, have fun and most importantly have a break (mums and dads too!) I
would love to hear about what you got up to if you’d like to e-mail the class address.
We will be starting this half-term in the same way we left the last one, with our learning taking place at home, but we will keep you updated as the
days/weeks go on and hope very much that we’ll all be back together in the classroom at the earliest opportunity. We will have our weekly zoom meeting on
Tuesday, so bring a pencil and some paper for our weekly quiz. More information to follow via ParentMail.
In the meantime, keep smiling!
Mr Penny

Day 1
This week, we will be using a video on Literacy Shed called Bubbles. Firstly, click on the link below and watch the video.
https://www.literacyshed.com/bubbles.html Now answer the comprehension questions below.
1. Where is the girl at the start of the video? 2. How is she feeling before she picks up the
bubbles?
3. After she floats into the air, where does she go next?
4. What colour is Gabby’s coat?
5. Why does she leave the bubbles on the beach at the end of the video?
Log onto the White Rose website. This week we are following Spring Week 6, which is all about Statistics
https://whiterosemaths.com/home learning/year-2/
Watch the video for lesson 1 and complete a pictogram as asked to at the end of the video. You may wish to make a pictogram of vehicles or you could choose something else, for example, types of food you have at home or types of toys you have.
Design and Technology
We have learned lots about 2D and 3D shapes in maths already and today we are going to think about how these were used to build castle towers and turrets. Have a look at the pictures of towers and turrets below and see how many shapes you can identify. Why do you think castles had towers and turrets?
Now you’re going to have a go at making your own.
Have a look at the instructions below the castle pictures and have a go!
Spellings:
This week we are looking at adding ‘es’ to nouns and verbs. We add ‘es’ to some nouns to pluralise them (when we have more than one). The words we are looking at this week end in a ‘y’. We take off the ‘y’ and add ‘ies’.
babies, cherries, ponies, poppies, cries, dries
Please write your spellings out in your neatest handwriting.
Reading:
Read a book to a parent for 10 minutes.
Day 2
Watch the video again and focus on the part of her journey where Gabby is looking at the fish in the water.
Today you are going to plan your own piece of writing where your character is transported on a bubble and sees some animals or creatures. You can use the ideas from the video or come up with your own. Perhaps your character will see some of the creatures in the pictures we used for our descriptive writing last week.
There is an example plan under this timetable which you can use to support you in your planning.

Lesson 2 – Draw pictograms (2, 5 and 10)
When you have completed the sheet, mark your answers with the answers sheet provided.
Music
Last half term we looked at medieval banquets. Did you know that when an important King or Queen entered a room they had special music to announce their arrival?
Have a listen to The Arrival of The Queen of Sheba:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9Fao RJAgII
Remembering our work on the orchestra from last term, can you name which of the four sections each of the instruments you can see would fall into?
Today we’re going to have some fun with
body percussion! This is where you use
your body to create an orchestra! Follow the music and play along with some body percussion.
Phonics/spellings:
Today you will be completing some spelling work looking at adding ‘ies’ to verbs and nouns. Please complete the sheet under this timetable dated Tuesday.
Reading:
Complete the reading
comprehension about Buzz Aldrin under this timetable and use the answer sheet to check your work.
Day 3
Today you will write the opening.
You can use the video and think about Gabby (or your own character) walking along and finding a bottle of bubble mixture.
You need to try to describe the characters in your writing, trying to use adjectives and verbs.
I have written an example here that you can use to support your writing.
One morning, a boy called Bobby was walking along by a stream. He was wearing an old, brown coat with the hood up. Bobby looked down as he scuffed his feet along the floor. He was bored and lonely. A moment later, Bobby saw a bottle of bubbles lying on the ground so he picked it up and blew some bubbles. Suddenly, one of the bubbles grew bigger and bigger and bigger, it was so vast that it picked him up. The sky turned from grey to yellow as Bobby floated high into the sky.

Science
Today we are looking at how we can change the shape of different materials. Firstly, have a read through the Powerpoint
Changing shape on the school website.
For the changing shape activity, you will need to gather some resources to test. These can be the items on the sheet, or you could use other resources from around the house and use the empty sheet.
Parents: please help your child to explore the properties of the items. Particularly when your child is testing the properties.

Day 4
Today you will be writing the journey part of the story.
Your character will be floating up into the sky and you will need to describe what they can see. Try to use adjectives and verbs.
I have written an example here that you can use to support your writing.
Bobby beamed as he was lifted high into the sky. When he looked down and could see fields and his house in the distance. He floated on through the clouds and they completely covered him. Below Bobby saw a cave at the top of a towering mountain and in the entrance sat a huge dragon! The dragon had a strong, spiky tail and it had smoke billowing from its large nostrils. It had green scales and terrifying claws. The dragon slowly lifted its head and looked up at Bobby. It smiled

You now need to label the map of the UK with the castles of:
Belfast Castle – in Northern Ireland Edinburgh Castle – in Scotland
Dunster Castle – in South-West England Pembroke Castle – in Wales
Hastings Castle – in South-East England
Phonics/Spellings:

and showed its yellow knife like teeth. Bobby smiled back and waved.
Day 5
Today you will be writing the resolution and ending of the story.
You will need to think about who your character will see and to describe the bottle of bubbles being left for the new character.
I have written an example here that you can use to support your writing.
The wind blew and Bobby floated on over the mountain. Below, he could see the sea and a long, sandy beach. Slowly, the bubble lowered. Bobby spotted a lonely boy walking along the shore, dragging his feet through the sand. He wore a red coat and looked disheartened. Booby blew some more bubbles and hopped down them like a set of steps. He put the bottle of bubbles on the beach and hid behind a dune. He watched as the lonely boy picked it up the bubbles. What adventure would he go on?
Today I would like you to think about the learning you have done this week and have a go at answering the questions on the worksheet: WALT: answer questions using graphs
Then mark your work with the answers provided.
