SENATE MEETING MINUTES

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION 2014-2015 Session

Business Meeting Minutes Friday, 7th November 2014 Location: Downtown Campus UB 209 Approved by vote of SGA Senate on: Friday, 14th November 2014

Purpose of Meeting: General Planning Meeting

i. Reviewing the survey question to be ready by tomorrow. c) Executive Report

i. Kirsten Thornton – Student Body Vice President

1. Attended the SGA/CAB Leadership meeting. We discussed upcoming events, how each organization can support each other, potential dates for Spring Elections and office rules and procedures. Next Leadership meeting has been decided for two weeks from original meeting date 2. Attended the first SAAM (Walk a Mile) committee meeting two weeks

ago, breaking down the first phase of the planning process. Sen. Bonton delegated duties to different committee members.

3. Met with Sen Bonton one-on-one to further discuss next steps of the SAAM events in April

4. Participated in the Aloha Tower tour, asked questions regarding plans for different types of inclement weather, apt. set-up, potential plans for different spaces and how the first floor is planned to be used

5. Creating a proposal and position amendment for the Historian and Deputy Historian to have them act as Chair and Co-Chair of the Philanthropy Council as it was originally intended last session, until then, currently acting as SGA Rep and Chair for the Student Philanthropy Council 6. Creating the Donor Relations Director for Student Philanthropy Council. 7. Toy and Food Drive has officially been approved. Met with Avery Fukeda

to discuss next steps. We will need Senators and Executive members to sign up to man tables on both the downtown campus and HLC. This link will be where everyone can sign up for their time slots. It will be Monday-Friday 11-1, Nov. 10-20. Also, we are asking that everyone promote this in all classes. We are trying to collect as many cans of food and toys as possible. Thank you

1. This week I worked on Veterans Day event.

2. Spoke with the Honolulu Vet Center if possible to provide free flu shots for student Veterans on Fort Street Mall via the mobile Vet Center. 3. Spoke with constituents regarding the U-Pass and getting their input. 4. Discussed with the Vet office staff about setting up an end of semester

info session to discuss with students getting certified and other financial aid options. Also discussed options for presenting Veteran Cords for those who are graduating in December.

11/05/2014 from 5.30PM to 7.30PM for both undergraduate and graduate students to attend.

2. Guest speakers were Dr. Agrusa from the TIM program at HPU and David Mark, the Director of Marketing of Island Air.

 Goes to Make A Wish foundation and Food Bank of Hawaii

 Benefit goes through the Hawaii children

 Starting Monday through Friday from 10-2pm, Downtown and Hawaii Loa Campus (except next Tuesday 11/11/14)

b) Discussion Countdown to Finals Sponsorship

 Both Downtown (Sea Warriors) and Hawaii Loa Campus

 Dec 1st through the 9th except the 5th

 December 1,3,9 Downtown available (6pm-9pm)

 December 1-9 Hawaii Loa available

 Cannot sponsor both campuses on the same day

 One full time staff is needed to be present (need to go on training on closing the sea warrior center)

5. Closing Comments

(a) Dodgeball tournament November 15 last day to register Nov 12, Free food, Costume, Time 12:00-tba, No more than 10 people in the team, at least 3 people as a split team

(c) Sen. Santana and Sen. Mendez met with Wayne Fernandez and they will draft a letter to address the issue of putting a traffic light outside the HLC campus to the state legislature.
