Writing

This week, I am giving you 3 subjects to choose from for writing. Choose which one you think you

would like to write about. As this is the last time I will set you writing this term, please have fun with the story and, if you can, send me a picture of the story through Miss Josey’s email, or post it on

Google Classroom – I always love to read your stories. Miss Warburton 😊

If you could have any pet in the world, what would you choose? An elephant? A tiger? A crocodile? Or maybe just a kitten or mouse? What special tricks would you teach your new pet? What would you name it? Where would it sleep and what would it eat? Write a

Once upon a time there was a magical city in the sky. Can you imagine who might live there? What would it be like living in the clouds? Would the people who lived there be able to fly? Where do you think the city will float to? Is it tiny, with fairies living in it, or huge with giants living in it? Write a short story about who lives in the floating city and what it is like to live there. Do you think they would all live happily ever after?

A dragon has decided to make a nest in your garden. What do you think your parents would say about that? Why should your parents let you keep the dragon?

Will it keep the grass short by burning it with its fire? Will it give you lifts to school on its back? Will it be like a guard dog? What will it eat? Will it be

friendly? Write a note to your parents persuading them to let you keep the dragon as a family pet and

Stick Numbers Challenges

First, collect lots of sticks. If you cannot find enough sticks, then you could use anything else that is straight, like thick grasses, pasta, knives and forks, etc.

Now try making numbers 1 to 10 out of the straight objects.

If you want a challenge, try to make the numbers 1-5 out of the same number of twigs. For

example, can you make number 2 out of just 2 twigs? Can you make the number 4 out of 4 twigs? (I think this could be a difficult challenge!)

Roman Numerals are a very old way of writing numbers. They are still

used sometimes, especially on old fashioned clock or watch faces, or occasionally for dates.

You will see that a 5 is written as a capital V and a 10 is written as a capital X. Then the ones are put before or after those to make the numbers like this….

Can you use your straight objects to make a whole clock face of numbers from 1-12 using Roman numerals?

Our Final Art Lesson

I cannot believe that the whole term has nearly disappeared already. What a strange time it has been and I have missed our crazy art lessons on a

Thursday afternoon with P4/5 so much. I was looking forward to lots of art

outside, or using natural things this term with you, but sadly we could not do it together.

So, here are a couple of outdoors, messy, muddy activities that I hope you will have fun with. I hope that your parents will not be too cross with me for the washing they might need to do

afterwards! If you really hate getting messy, there is a cleaner option too.

Always remember, it doesn’t matter if you are amazing or not at art - just have some fun being creative!

Muddy, Messy Art

I will admit that I have been saving this

outdoors art lesson for my last one, because it might not make me very popular with your

parents! I was really looking forward to doing this with you all in the school playground this summer, so hope that you will have a go.

The first thing is to make your own

paintbrushes. You can use twigs, leaves, grasses, flowers, feathers…….. Then you need to attach these things to a stick with string, elastic band or

sellotape. You could use pegs like the ones in the picture, which makes it much easier.

Then, if you have lots of paint, you can take it outside with some paper or card from recycling and just have a go and see what marks and patterns you can make with your home made paintbrushes. If you do not have paint, or want a messier art challenge, look at the next page….

(6)

Make your own Mud Paint!

If you do not have your own paint, or want more of a messy, outdoors

option, try making your own paint from mud. You can mix mud with

water and it is possible to paint with it, using your home made brushes

(or normal ones.) Please ask an adult first, before you go getting

covered in mud!!! Maybe put on old clothes or an adult’s old T-shirt

over what you are wearing, so it doesn’t matter if you get messy.

It can make it easier to use if you add a small squirt of washing up

liquid to the mud when you are mixing it with water.

If you have some paints or food colouring, you can try

adding a bit to the mix to get different shades of mud.

Have fun, making a muddy, arty mess! If you are

enjoying it, you can use your hands to make marks with

the mud too.

(7)

The Clean Option….

I know that some people hate

getting messy, so here’s a cleaner

choice for your art today.

You can use real leaves, like they

have in these pictures, or you could

draw round leaves instead and then

colour in the outlines on paper. I

think that the brightest leaves

shown here are actually decorated

with chalks that have been mixed

with a bit of water, to make a sort

of paint. Once they are done, you could thread

the leaves together to make a mobile hanging, or if you have drawn

round them on paper, cut them out and thread them.
