across Cafego Place, the LMU lots on Locust Street and Cafego Place, and the Crowne Plaza parking garage. On weekdays, the only free parking available is our own parking lot. Free

parking for evening (after 5 p.m.) and weekend events is

Important Procedures for Attending Mass and Receiving Communion

1. Please follow the directions of the ushers when entering and leaving the church and when coming to Communion. Also please sit in the designated seats indicated by the green tape. Do not sit in the front row. Finally, please do not leave your seat except as directed by the ushers at Communion and at the end.

2. When the number of persons in the church reaches 50, all later arrivals will be directed to the lower church.

3. Please remember to wear your face mask at all times during the Mass. If you need a special children’s size mask please ask an usher for one. Please wear it so as to cover your nose and mouth completely.

4. Please follow the ushers’ directions when coming to Communion. Please come up the center aisle in single file, maintaining appropriate distance. (In other words do not come up two by two as was common prior to the pandemic.) Before Communion, sanitize your hands.

5. If Communion finishes early downstairs, the Deacon will also give Communion in the church, thus creating two suitably distanced Communion stations in the front. Please go to the one that corresponds to the side by which you will return to your seat. Always return to your seat via the side aisle.

6. To receive Communion, please extend your hand as flat as possible. Do not move your fingers. Allow the priest or deacon time to place the host properly and reverently on your hand without having to touch your hand in the process. (If you move your fingers, you make it more likely that you will touch the priest or deacon's hand.) 7. At the end of Mass, please follow the ushers’ direction to leave the church as quickly as possible, starting with those in the back.

8. If you brought your donation with you to Mass, please drop it in the box by the door as you leave. Reception of Holy Communion on the tongue is permitted. However, because of the extra danger this poses for the priest or deacon, as well as for subsequent communicants, the following procedures must be followed strictly:

9. Those wishing to receive Holy Communion on the tongue will present themselves at the end of Mass in front of the altar rail on the east aisle. 10. Communicants will come forward to the altar rail one at a time, maintaining appropriate distance.

11. After each communicant, the priest or deacon who has administered Communion will immediately sanitize his hands.

12. After the last communicant, the priest or deacon will return the ciborium to the tabernacle and then immediately wash his hands with soap and water in the sacristy.

Prayer to St. Joseph

In December, Pope Francis declared this year the “Year of St. Joseph.” Bishop Richard F. Stika has asked parishes to pray a prayer to St. Joseph at the end of every Mass following the St. Michael prayer.

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,

Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you, Mary placed her trust; with you, Christ became man.

Blessed Joseph, to us also, show yourself as a father and guide us in the path of life.

We seek your fatherly protection during this time of pandemic upon the Diocese of Knoxville and all our Sisters and Brothers that surround us in East Tennessee. Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from every evil. We ask this through the intercession of the Holy Family that you were given to love, protect and guide during your time on earth. Amen.

2021 Breaking Bread Missals

Due to the pandemic, it is not currently possible to keep Breaking Bread Missals in the pews. Personal copies are available for a $5 minimum

donation to the Mary Catherine Willard Music Fund. Pick up a copy during

the week at the parish office or see Karl or Amanda after Mass.

We are updating both to make it easier for parishioners to stay connected —whether they attend in person or virtually. Worship Aids

We have since qualified for some matching funds from Food for the Poor that allowed us to send $3,000 in beans and rice to our Haitian sister parish, St. Francis Xavier. We have also made arrangements to ship $3,000 in medical supplies that Father Belizaire tells us are in desperate need before the parish school can reopen.

Because of increased need in this time of COVID pandemic, we welcome your continued support of our Haitian coffee and chocolate. The Haiti Committee will be offering Singing Rooster products after all Masses on the 2nd Sunday of each month.

Gospel Reflection

The fourth Sunday of Lent is sometimes called Laetare Sunday. Laetare is a Latin word that means “rejoice.” Even as we observe our Lenten sacrifices, we rejoice in anticipation of the joy that will be ours at Easter.

The Gospel is part of a conversation that Jesus is having with Nicodemus. Nicodemus came to Jesus at night because he was afraid of what others would think of him. Jesus tells him that “the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light…” Sit with your children in darkness for a bit, maybe on the porch at night or in a room with only candlelight. How does the darkness make you feel? Are you looking for the light? Think about the darkness others are experiencing. How does hurting others or being indifferent to others’ pain make you feel? Are you willing to search for the light of Christ in others? We don’t have Christ the same way that Nicodemus did but Christ surrounds us in our daily lives. Ask your children where they see light.

Wrap It Up!

The IC Women’s Group sincerely thanks the parish community for their support of our Wrap

It Up program.

We were able to deliver 160 fleece and yarn blankets and 35 handmade quilts to the Meals on Wheels program. They are most

appreciative of our gifts to them.

Join the Knights of Columbus families as we celebrate the Lenten season together. During Lent we are called for Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.

You are invited to participate with us in the

40 Days for Life

Prayer Vigil,

10 a.m.— noon on Wednesdays, in front of Planned Parenthood, 710 N Cherry Street. Fr Tim Sullivan will lead us in the Rosary at 10

a.m. each Wednesday.

We will be assisting the efforts of Ladies of Charity by

collecting socks, bicycle chains and locks,

and clothing

. All these items can be placed in the plastic bin as you enter the church. You might even consider donating your time to Ladies of Charity as they need volunteers.

We also ask that you consider

joining the Knights of Columbus

as we strive to follow Jesus

more closely, strengthen our families, and support our Priests, Church, and Community. Not sure who to talk to? You can join online at kofc.org/join Council 645.
