Where Are You at Today?

 We upgraded a few years back and now we’re looking at

enhancement packages

 I need to know how SAP Solution Manager can help me implement new functionality

 We’re getting ready to start our implementation project

and we’ve heard we should be using SAP Solution Manager Project Administration

Will SAP Solution Manager actually help me implement my business process in SAP solutions?

 We’ve already implemented SAP ERP and need to start a

post-project documentation effort

 How can I build out my business processes and start utilizing BPCA to reduce testing effort?

(4)

[

Common Pain Points

 We want to activate business functions as part of an

Enhancement Package, but are not sure what will be changed.

 When we apply support packages we run a full integration

test which consumes resources from both IT and the business users.

 Our test scope planning during normal movement of

transports is based on intuition. We would like something more programmatic.

 We accept a high level of risk by only testing critical

business processes when applying transports or Support Packages because we don’t have the resources to test.

Business Process Change Analyzer

 Included as part of Test Management

 service.sap.com/rkt-solman > Release >Test Management  service.sap.com/testing

 Available as part of Solution Manager 7.01 and 7.1

 Included with Solution Manager 7.01 SPS 23

 Yes! You’ve had this functionality for over two years!

 Meant to drive test planning and execution

 Integrated with Solution Documentation

 Source for business processes

 Business processes are made up of transactions & reports

(6)

[

BPCA Requirements

 Business Process Documentation

 Solution Manager Project with your business processes  Kick start effort with Solution Documentation Assistant  Leverage Reverse Business Process Engineering Rules

 How To: Quick and easy Reverse Business Process

Documentation with SAP Solution Manager 7.1 by Benjamin Schneider

 SAP Note 1591505

 Technical Bill of Materials

 Detailed listing of all technical objects utilized by transaction  Built by creating a recording in non-production environment  Information is stored in Solution Manager for BPCA

Example Project with Business Processes

 Process is defined as Business Scenario > Business

Process > Business Process Step

 Business Process Step = Tcode, Report, or Interface

(8)

[

Building Project Structure from Excel

 New feature added in Solution Manager 7.1

 Generate a series of text files from

SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN that can be opened & modified in Excel

 Be careful when modifying the txt files – cannot convert into Excel files

 In addition to nodes within the Project we can also add:

 Transaction Codes  Test Cases

 Project Documentation

 Project Documentation upload requires files be copied

(9)

Real Experience. Real Advantage.

[

Exporting from Solution Manager

9

 Download template first to understand formatting

 Uploads will overwrite all objects in project – does not

(10)
(11)

Real Experience. Real Advantage.

[

Solution Documentation Assistant

 Reads from managed systems (ERP, CRM, etc.) and

collects data on transaction, report, or interface usage

 Leverages data collected by Early Watch Alerts and

ST03N

 Your systems are already collecting the required data!  The only overhead occurs when reading data

 Covers both standard SAP and custom transactions

 Compares transaction usage with business processes

defined within a Solution Manager project

 Typically coordinated by PMO or Functional Leads

 Not a Basis task

(12)

[

SDA WorkCenter

 Workcenter based – visibility controlled by roles/profiles

 See Solution Manager Security Guide

 Create multiple analyses over multiple systems

 Several use cases beyond business process

Reviewing the Analysis

23

 Not in Analysis looks at all transactions

(24)

[

What’s next

 Ideally you have stored all transactions and reports within

the ‘Transactions’ tab as part of a business process

 Established a set of business process experts

 Defined some type of naming convention and standards

 Setup security profiles and created training material on

storing business processes in Solution Manager

 Loaded some project documentation into a project

 Business Requirements

 Technical/Functional Specs  Test cases

(25)

Real Experience. Real Advantage.

[

The nuts and bolts

 Technical Bill of Materials (TBOM) are the nuts and bolts

of Business Process Change Analyzer

 Solution Manager must understand the transactions you

are executing – and their components – before we can compare a “change” to the active business processes

 TBOM Generation must become part of your Solution

Documentation effort

 Multiple approaches to integrating the TBOM recording

process into your production support or project teams

 Ideally, we will assign someone as the owner of TBOMs

 QA Lead  PMO

(26)
(27)

[

Recording a TBOM via Worklist

27

 TBOM Worklist is a mechanism for tracking who is

(28)

TBOM Notifications

 Notification is based on a Smart Form that could be

(29)

[

Viewing your work list

 Assumes you have setup roles & security

 Easily identifies which TBOMs must be executed

 Logical organized between new TBOMs and items to be

Automated Generation of TBOMS

 Two options available today:

 #1 – SAP Test Acceleration & Optimization

 TAO includes TBOM generation functionality as part of script execution

 Detailed Guide > TBOM Creation using SAP TAO

 #2 – QTP Script Execution during TBOM recording

 Tested with QTP 9.0+ with Solution Manager 7.01

 Detailed Guide > How To Create TBOMS using QTP scripts

 Keep in mind that each transaction can be used in a

variety of scenarios

 Each scenario must be executed to create the best

Administrating TBOM Settings

 Too many activities to cover in this session

 Leverage Ramp-up Knowledge Transfers content

(36)

[

We’ve arrived! Business Process Change Analyzer

 We’ve begun documenting our business processes

 Included detail in the transactions tab

 Ideally loaded some documents (like test scripts)

 We’ve built out of Technical Bill of Materials

 Leveraged TBOM Work List

 Included as part of Change Management Process

 We’ve thought about how we will leverage this new-found

information

 Targeted testing of changes to the landscape

 Inclusion in standard transport requests in addition to Support Packages and Enhancement Packages

(37)

Real Experience. Real Advantage.

[

BPCA Sample Approach

37 • Business Processes • Transactions • Reports Project • Identify business processes affected by change • Risk-based test recommendation Change

Analysis • Project = Source • Test Case Review • Generate Test Plan

Test Planning • Regression Tests • Manual & Automated Tests Test Execution

(38)

[

BPCA WorkCenter

 Straightforward, simple navigation

 Lists the transport and/or Support Package

 Sorted by object type (table, program, etc.)

(40)

[

Integrated Test Plan creation

 Multiple options exist for test plan execution

 Reduce effort in test planning

(41)

Real Experience. Real Advantage.

[

Test Management in 7.1

 Yes, you already own a test planning, test management,

and test execution tool

 Greatly enhanced in Solution Manager 7.1, but also

available in 7.0

 Integrated within your Business Process as part of a

project

 Pulls manual test cases from the project

 Ability to run project status reports to understand test status

 Education Session 0908 – Tue 3:00 – 4:00PM, S220D

Execution • BPCA Results

• Test Plan • Test Results Change Review • Import into Production Change Approval

Transparency Attained?

 We know now what objects will be affected by the change

we are introducing into our landscape

 Ideally, we’re reducing the testing scope if you had previously leveraged full integration test cycles

 We potentially introduced more testing since we never adequately tested before

 If SAP introduces changes in the form of patched I will

know if my custom objects will be affected

 Enhancements, search helps, reports and programs  If these objects are included in a TBOM then change

analysis will report those objects

 BPCA is usually the gateway for more effective test

planning and management
