ISTORY OF THEUCLA C
OMMUNITYP
ROGRAMSO
FFICEEstablished in 1970 by concerned students, staff and faculty, the UCLA Community Programs Office strives to develop personal growth by raising our consciousness, so that our experiences and our management skills become relevant to community empowerment and in creating a better world for all humanity.
Our department is one of the most diverse places on campus, where students from various communities come together to learn from one another and share each other's experiences. The UCLA Community Programs Office is a place for students to find a community away from home and a safe space where students can feel comfortable enough to grow and flourish during their time on campus.
The Community Programs Office Internship Program aims to transform students—particularly freshmen and transfers—into the next generation of student leaders on campus.
As the engine to drive social change at UCLA and within the larger Los Angeles community, students engage in dialogue with members of diverse communities to better understand the climate of underrepresented populations. Students learn, teach, listen and reflect on the world in which we live. They engage in the work of all three centers housed within the Department: Student Retention Center, Student Initiated Outreach Center and the Community Programs Office.
